The Pokémon Company International (TPCi) has announced today that they will be acquiring Excell Brands, one of the largest distributors of trading card game products in the US. Excell Brands has been working with TPCi for several decades, and functions as a distributor for all the major trading card game brands, including Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and One Piece.

Nintendo asks Pokémon TCG shop in NYC to change name and branding after being hit by $100k USD robbery

After being the victim of a robbery for $100,000 USD worth of Pokémon cards, among other merchandise, owners of a Pokémon Trading Card Game shop in New York City have been asked to change their name and branding, which included Nintendo trademarks. The robbery, which occurred on January 14th of this year, apparently brought so much publicity to the shop that Nintendo took notice.

The release of Pokémon Pokopia is fast approaching, and the new cozy spin-off is getting its own collection of merchandise at Pokémon Centers in Japan. The collection features characters and environments from the game, including its humanoid Ditto player characters. The Pokopia merch collection will arrive at Pokémon Centers in Japan and at the Pokémon Center Online on March 5th, in conjunction with the game’s release.

The Pokémon Company is expanding its collaboration with vocaloid Hatsune Miku, this time launching a collection of merchandise featuring the singer as a Pokémon Trainer specializing in each of the 18 types. Pokémon x Hatsune Miku are also adding to their catalog of songs, launching their first song of 2026 on January 28th. The new merch collection, “18 Harmony Stage,” will arrive at Pokémon Centers in Japan on January 31st, and to the Pokémon Center Online on January 29th.

Meanwhile, Takara Tomy has announced a new plush as well, a classic “fat” version of Pikachu in celebration of the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Pokémon TCG shop in NYC robbed at gunpoint during community event; suspects make off with $100,000 USD worth of cards

At about 6:40 PM on January 14th, several masked men entered The Poké Court, a Pokémon Trading Card Game shop in the Borough of Manhattan, in New York City. Reports differ on if there were three or four suspects, but the group was armed, and held employees and customers at gunpoint while they smashed glass cases and grabbed cards. Employees of the shop told local news that an estimated $100,000 USD worth of PSA-graded cards and other products were stolen. No injuries have been reported.

Japan-based clothing retailer Uniqlo is previewing a new collab with The Pokémon Company, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Pokémon Red and Green’s release in Japan. A major leasing contract has been finalized between Trinity Capital and Starwood, owners of the Spark LS manufacturing campus in Morrisville, North Carolina, and an “undisclosed tenant,” which local industry press has identified as TCG card and packaging printer Millennium Print Group. Millennium Print Group is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Pokémon Company International (TCPi), having been acquired in 2022 after working with TCPi as a printer since 2015.

Thieves still at large after breaking through two businesses’ walls to steal $30,000 worth of Pokémon cards in Los Angeles

In the early morning hours of Thursday, December 11th, at least three people were seen on security cameras breaking through the front door of the Medoncino Farms restaurant in Woodland Hills, a neighborhood in Los Angeles. From there, the thieves broke through a wall in the restaurant to the neighboring Cards & Coffee TCG shop, where they packed up an estimated $30,000 worth of Pokémon cards and sports cards before making their escape.
