2006 in Pokémon: Predictions and wishes

Predictions
  • Movie 9 will make top 3 in the box office for at least the opening week, and top 4 for the year.
  • Diamond and Pearl will be released on a Thursday, but not before movie 9.
  • The anime will be timed to coincide with the release: the OP will change, and a cast change.
  • Bulbapedia will make 3,000 articles.
  • Bulbagarden will launch at least one new service. (No, this is not based on insider knowledge.)
  • Diplomacy Game V will reach turn 7.

Wishes
  • Movie 9 will make #1 in the box office for at least the opening 3 weeks, and top 3 until the end, and #1 for the year.
  • We will once more have presence in Japan.
  • Bulbapedia will make 3,500 articles.
  • Bulbanews will have an active staff of more than 10 and average one article or editorial a day.
  • Whatever new service is launched, will be an immediate success.
  • Diplomacy Game V will terminate properly.
  • Finally: Some inkling of Pokémon Special being animated.
 
(I hope the timing of my writing this will prove to be apt.)

Generation III Predictions

  • The third game to FireRed/LeafGreen will have been announced by the time of the tenth anniversary of Red and Green. Release date may coincide with the anniversary (February 27th). This revelation will shed light on the true reason behind Diamond and Pearl's delay.
  • The Wireless Communication (Joyspot) service will be resurrected through special Nintendo DS WiFi capabilities. Wonder Cards and Wonder News will be transmitted to players of FireRed, LeafGreen, Emerald and the new third game around the globe.
  • The third game will bring us to two subdivisions of Generation III - Ruby/Sapphire, Colosseum and FireRed/LeafGreen; Emerald, XD and the third game. All 386 Pokémon can be obtained between the games of either subdivision.
  • The title will appropriately reflect the original Yellow, as opposed to Blue. Yet, the game will be to FireRed/LeafGreen more than Yellow was to Red/Green. Pikachu will retain its importance, but not as the starter of the game.
  • This third version will be an upgrade to FireRed/LeafGreen as Emerald is to Ruby/Sapphire. However, since a respectable part of Emerald's additions were taken from FireRed/LeafGreen, the same will hold true here in that some Ruby/Sapphire features absent from FireRed/LeafGreen will be incorporated into the third game.
  • The storyline revolving Mewtwo, Mr. Fuji (Dr. Fuji) and Mew will finally be unveiled. The resolution will be surprising in comparison to what one would expect based on the anime and manga depictions.
  • The Wireless Communication service will be significantly expanded, possibly to the point of warranting a separate project. The brand new service will be exclusive to the third game, enabling online trading and battling by means of WiFi. In this regard, the game will fall under the category of GBA games, though actually meant to be played on the Nintendo DS.
  • The link between Orre and the other regions will be established. Moreover, the Celebi Bonus Disc will be re-released in Japan and be made available for the first time elsewhere. Asides from serving the same functions as the Colosseum Nintendo Special Disc, it will complement XD in adding the proper reward for purifying all Shadow Pokémon, as well as for completing Orre Colosseum.

Generation IV Predictions
  • Diamond and Pearl will be released no sooner than the premiere of Movie 9. Assuming the plans for Generation III have been finalized for a sufficient period of time, the end of one generation may not collide with the commencement of another. If this is indeed the case, August 17 appears to be a feasible option for the release date (not only is it a Thursday, but it would approximately equate the duration of the third generation to that of the first).
  • On the new Pokémon front, players will be taken by a surprise to the effect of Ruby and Sapphire's incompatibility with the older games. More than 200 new Pokémon will exist in the data, but nearly one half of which will be excluded from normal gameplay. This will make way to future Generation IV games.

Wishes
  • Diamond and Pearl will achieve a similar impact on beginning and veteran players to that which Red and Green had on first-time players.
  • In spite of the overhaul in interaction between players, meticulous research of the Pokémon games will remain a priority. For the first time, data will be collected and analyzed by many, rather than a select few of alleged experts.
  • The storyline aspects of the Pokémon games will be reinforced as being no less central than the gameplay mechanics. Fans will no longer settle for the oversimplification and distortion of the heart of the story as seen in the anime and manga.
 
Predictions

  • Pokémon Trozei will become the most addictive DS game ever

  • Diamond and Pearl will prove to be the most innovative Pokémon games ever created and fans will rejoice in the form of making them one of the hottest selling game duos in history

Wishes

  • 4Kids Entertainment will finally bow to the will of the fans and no longer do lame editing of the anime except for the okay stuff they've done so far (like changing the colors of Team Rocket's outfits, etc.).

  • The rumored new evolution of Eevee will prove to be either a highly unique grass type or a radical sort of dragon or flying type
