2007 to be "hottest year on record"

Is this like how 2006 was supposed to be a big hurricane season?

This is to be expected. Though, right now is the easy part, it just warms. Just wait until we lose the polar caps and the thermohaline circulation. Then the climate we know will truly be gone.

As for these predictions, we didn't know El Nino was coming until last summer and at that time it looked weaker than it truly was. Something could happen to retard the warming this year. We'll have to see. Right now it looks like the E Nino will hold at least into Spring.

I really really really really hate when it's hot. I'm a cold person.

It's supposed to be the coldest time of year where I live. I live in Canda, and I'm freakin' gettin' freakin' Miami weather. People were dropping left and right during the summer.

If it wasn't for my new beloved Air Conditioner, I would've fallen too.

If 65+ degree Fahrenheit weather in the middle of freakin' winter with a normal average of 40 degree weather is any indication...

cast blizz plz! k thks bai!

I'm pretty sure the whole "Global warming doesn't exist" camp is losing a bit of credibility with 70 degrees in winter weather. Although hilariously, FoxNews is trying to report as many instances of snow as possible.

El Nino helped with shearing a lot of the depressions.

But you ain't complaining about the mild winter ;]
And who could blame you Canadian winters blow big time.

Anyway, I still think that the natural cycle has been playing the biggest role in Global Warming, but will admit that the CO2 emmissions have done a great deal in speeding up the process. For now I'll happily take the mild winters and super heated summers.

I heard somewhere that it used to be 2 degrees celcius hotter on average than it is today, in the 1400's. I'm prepared to believe it, But i fully acknowledge global warming is a lot more likely to be the cause of the recent hot weather than the natural cycle, although it's possible the 2 are co-insiding to make it the hottest period in modern times (i'm standing by my vague fact).

Also here (in England), we've only had two frosts and one snowy day and it's almost spring. It's just rained more because it's not cold enough to snow. Also really windy. We have already got mosquito's in our house. That's not right.

Tell me about it. Over here the high yesterday was 89. Today it was still 80 and above. Winter has been like, MIA. I'm totally thinking all that excess CO2 is having something to do with this... and I mean A LOT. This isn't an isolated incident, it's been largely dry and warm (even for winter in Southern California) pretty much all year with little exception.

FACT: CO2 in the atmosphere is the highest it's been for a few thousand years, and it's still going up at a rate much faster than natural.
FACT: There's a direct correlation between temperature and CO2 in the atmosphere. Meaning that as CO2 goes up, temperature goes up as well. Just consult 600,000 years of Antarctic ice sheets with tiny bubbles of atmosphere from every year trapped inside them.

It's time for us to face it. We're fucking up the atmosphere.

You may be baking but up here on the mitten we're freezing our various body parts off. We didn't see ten all weekend and we've gone down below zero for three or four nights in a row. And long range forecasts aren't showing much of a let up.

We can't use regional weather or single years for this. However, it's a fact, overall in the long term we've been getting warmer.

I may have to retract my previous comment...

Not only has our area received a blanket of snow quite recently, [quite majestic might I add :) ]
but we've entered into a stint of near record low temperatures for the past week,
and there's still more to come in the week ahead.

8 degrees for a morning low, compare that with a 60 degree low a little over a month ago.
Talk about your extremes... All in all this winter may still be able to balance
itself out in the record books in terms of means, but obviously that doesn't
compare to actual experience.

Well, at least I'm satiated with my winter now ^_^.

Why do I feel that Global Warming is a big scam? Sounds like one to me. Wonder what NY and those places getting record cold temeperatures are thinking right about now. GW, sounds sinister, and we are so easily fooled, that many people get caught up in it. I think astroids in space present a greater threat than GW. I HATE the heat, but really, I see no evidence that 2007 will be any hotter than any other year.

So hundreds if not thousands of meteorologists who have studied the weather and climate longer than you've been alive are wrong about the weather while you with no education in atmospheric science are right? You're fucking delusional.

You're on my court now. I've been studying this and there is no debate, global warming is happening, global warming is been caused by us, and global warming (in one way or another) will make the climate very different from the one we know.

Before I was born, they were screaming another Ice Age was coming. The weatherman cant even tell me whats going to happen next week, let alone whats going to happen a year from now. Now, I know your a weatherman, so your kinda biased on this issue. But Science kinda does disprove Global Warming. To think that WE can control the weather is insane. If Global Warming IS happening, guess we had better eat drink and be merry cause there isnt anything WE are going to do about it. Well, ok, if you think that WE are causing Global Warming, than you had better walk to work every day.

Quit it, please, Al. This is science, not debate.

ShowCreator, if you want to debate the issue, go to the Soap Box. This forum is simply for the discussions of science, not debates of points of science. Especially when we have something like Global Warming, which the consensus of scientists worldwide favours.

I prefer to consider it as a reality check. ShowCreator is the one who came on here with the intent to debate accepted science.
