Anyone taking part in the May International VGC 2014 online competition?

I'm playing for the lolz and because it's my first year really playing VGC I wanted to see how highly I could rank based on what I've learned this year. So far I've had a decent record and my ranking is just below 1600 after... 11 battles? 13 battles? Either way I have a pretty decent record so far after day 1 which I'm pretty pleased with. I don't actually remember my actual record or how many battles I've had because half the time I was watching YouTube or on tumblr. I was recording peoples' teams and things but then I got lazy/forgot and I'm p. sure I faced the same guy twice already. Trick Room-heavy team with Tyrantrum, Slowbro, M-Kang, Nidoking and two others.

Post your progress, clutch battles, etc. Team/items/abilities can be discussed when the challenge is over but...

If you're playing in the challenge, how have you been faring? So far I've been winning speed ties and missing clutch moves -.- Focus blast miss cost me v. dearly and I've seen Heliolisks and Greninjas all over the place O: I saw a Heliolisk on a sun team and I was reallyyyy confused.

I have done good so far, mainly with me Mega Kang who kills majority of pokes, I'm in the 1570 range and have done 8 battles.

you feel like you're using m-kang alot? i've been bringing mine to only like 60% of my matches ... everyone else has seems to have speed ties or gourgeist/trevenant or quick guard @___@

Sucker Punch, kills all the things. I use a lot of set up pokes.

I'm at exactly 1600 right now in the Junior division, with a 14-6 W-L. I've been mainly defeated by teams with Rotom-W and Rotom-H. I usually start out with Talonflame and Mega Kangaskhan but sometimes go with Rotom-W and Mamoswine. I also have Amoonguss (shiny) and Aegislash but I mainly bring them to teams that scream Trick Room. I've had lots of fun battles and seen a wide variety of Pokes. I've seen Talonflame, Mega Kanga and Rotom (W and H) most but I've also seen a fair amount of Greninja, Heliolisk, Delphox, Raichu, Salamence, Garchomp and Chandelure.

If I had time I'd probably run an M-Aerodactyl and Charizard as a Rock Throw/Air Slash pair. I'll probably do VGC more when you can use Togekiss.

For the first day, I am 11-9 W-L in the Masters Division. I had a 8-2 run for the last 10 battle so I am finally gaining some confidence. I am new to VGC and some of my initial set-ups have been terrible.

I am running a rain team - Politoed / Ludicolo / Crawdaunt, along with Shiny Scizor, Machamp and Klefki. When I locked in my battle box I forgot to switch in M-Blastoise for someone else. Oh well. Crawdaunt is there for late game finishes or if an opponent has activated trick room, Machamp uses wide guard which has helped tremendously, and has killed many Charizards in the process so far, Scizor has life orb and has been useful. Klefki has helped paralyzed and tormented many in the process.

The one match that was rattling was with a Dark Void Smeargle along side a Mega Kangaskhan. I did not have my Klefki to safeguard out in time. But it's all legal so kudos to that trainer.

I hate Dark Void with every fiber of my being :l but I managed a 2-turn wake up against a non-moody Smeargle so then it was ok :3

I'm doing alright. I went 14 and 6 W-L in the Masters Division with slightly over 1600. My tailwind team with "over-spreading" is doing wonders for me. For some reason, though, I faced a guy with a shiny Politoed, Kangaskhan, Ludicolo, AND Goodra. It was a close match, but I ended up winning. ^_^

Greninja, Talonflame, Aegislash, Kangaskhan. Of the 13 battles I've done 11 of them have been against that exact team or a slight variation thereof. I didn't expect to win every match. I have an unevolved pokemon and two of them aren't even level 50 yet. I'm just a bit dissapointend in my first competition. I was expecting fun battles with interesting strategies but instead I get brave bird and sucker punched into oblivion every battle. I lose to the same team every time and it's boring.

I did finally figure out how to nail Greninja by tricking him into using ice beam on my dragonair and then hitting them with fire. But thats my point, Greninja will always have ice beam, and it will always use it to switch type at the beginning of battle. Battle Maison has more surprise than competitions.

I guess competitions aren't my cup of tea. Or wine in this case ;)

Once your rating gets high enough you'll probably start running into M-Pinsir, M-Gengar, Amoongus, and more.

I you want fun battles then you could use a Trick room team, seeing as they are extremely fun to use. Greninja? No problem when Reunicluis sets up TR and Ferrothorn Curse-Balls it to death, bruhahahahaha...

Anyway, here is a vid of my favourite battle so far: DVMG-WWWW-WWW7-EYR3. This video perfectly exemplifies the reason why I battle compeditvely: it's fun, intense and you just never know how it'll turn out.

Personally, I don't play doubles (I'm pretty meh anyway at singles) but I'm kind of glad I didn't sign up.

From what I've seen and heard, fake out M-Khangaskhan and Gale Wings Talonflame are the norm. I'm sure up in the 17-1800s there's guys abusing spore.

Good luck to all of you though!

I completely stink at Doubles. Second day and I struggle just to reach the ranking I've started out with. Next time, I probably should use less than 3 supporters.

Day 1: Off to a rocky start, but managed to get to 1600+ by my 20 battles

Day 2: Started off strong, getting all the way to 1666 before my tenth battle, only for me to begin my losing streak. I probably sit at around 1620-1635 at the end of my 20th match. I guess this reflects the type of people who stayed in the tournament from the first day? Hopefully I can get to 1700 by the end of Day 3.

Mega Kangaskhan, as always, is a pain. However, my team was created in mind to make everything as difficult for it as possible. Using a Trick Room team with Rocky Helmet Slowking + Intimidate/Fake Out Scrafty means that Kangaskhan has to sacrifice a lot of HP in order to stop me from setting up. Yes, Kangaskhan is generally faster so I can't use Fake Out on it, Scrafty at least protects Slowking from the other Pokemon. Next turn? Kangaskhan's Return can't KO my Slowking (some run Double Edge, but you've literally chopped off 60% of your HP to stop a Slowking) and most people have their secondary Pokemon target Scrafty. Oh, and Scrafty's Quick Guard trumps any of Kangaskhan's attempts to get around Trick Room once its set up.

I generally don't have trouble against physical sweepers (can manage to get 3 Intimidates in) but special sweepers are another story.

On more than one occassion have I seen Dark Void + Transform Smeargle in order to get two Mega Kangaskhan on the field. I narrowly lost the first time I faced a team like that, but the second time I not only set up Trick Room, but I managed to win with ease.

So my record was fine the first day, 11-3 even. And then I managed to get sick ... I played some yesterday and started to lose a bunch because I was/am so out of it =.= I'm mid 1550's again even after topping out at 1630ish. Moral of the story is your record will suffer when you're sick, kids :c I anticipate a similar thing happening today but YOLO :l

I have to say I may have judged prematurely or just had bad luck. The last 10 battles have been really varied and fun. I'm still 2-23 but hey somebody's got to be last lol

I just had my agieslash OHKO'ed by knock off from accelgor in shield form?
