• Hiya, everyone --

    Recently we've been noticing there have been a few stories here and there that have been posted without content warnings. As a reminder, we ask that every work published in our Workshop contain content warnings, even if none apply (in which case, you can just mention that no content warnings apply). You can refer to a helpful guide on how to rate your stories here, but if you need any further assistance, please feel welcome to contact a Workshop staff member! We're here to help.

    Thank you all for helping us ensure our community is a safe and healthy one, and for your continued patronage in our Library and Workshop.
  • Hiya, everyone!

Hey, all! Thanks for your hard work in nominating. Below is the final list of nominees that our judges will take a look at and discuss over the next month or so! Congratulations to all of our authors, and best of luck to each of you in the judging stage!

I'd like to remind everyone that new content posted after December 15, 2017 is not eligible for the judging stage. Likewise, we ask that you not edit your work until judging is complete. If you really need to edit your work before the judging stage is complete for whatever reason, feel free to PM me and we can try to work something out.

For all of you lovely authors listed above, it's that time to send me your recommended reading. Your recommended reading will help your fic's judges decide which chapters you think are your best work and in which chapters your characters shine through the most! Judges are at the very least asked to read the first and most recent chapters of your fics, but anything other specific chapters will be chosen by them without your recommended reading.

To submit recommended reading, simply PM me with links to your individual chapters! Recommended reading is not required, especially not for short fics, one-shots, or fics just getting started. Recommended reading is also no longer required to be considered for best story or best character should you be chosen as a winner for your category. However, a judge is not likely to know if your character in the judging stage isn't introduced until chapter 50, nor is work written in 2012 probably going to be as strong as work written in 2017. To get the most out of the feedback you'll receive from our judges and to maximize your chances of success in the awards, recommended reading is highly encouraged!

I understand some authors have trouble choosing which chapters to submit for recommended reading, so I'm providing a list of what the judges typically look at for both story- and character-based categories to hopefully help narrow down the decision process.

For story-based categories, you may submit four chapters, each of them demonstrating what you think is your best work for the following:

- Plot
- Setting
- Characterization
- Style

For characters under consideration for Best Protagonist, Supporting, Antagonist or Pokémon, you may also submit up to four chapters each! These chapters should demonstrate what you think best showcases the following:

- Character Development
- Originality
- Entertainment Value
- Contribution to the Story

That's right, you're no longer limited to just the four chapters while trying to cover four potential categories! However, we ask that you try to be reasonable and think of the judges. Ask yourself if you really need four chapters to showcase why your character is the best. Think in terms of word count: how much is too much?

While judging is happening, please do vote for the three user categories! You may vote for one user per category. I totally encourage you guys to say why you're voting the users like when nominating, but it's not required. User voting is PUBLIC! Judging is done in group conversations created on the forums.

This round, the mods also want to give you all a chance to make up your own user awards! Yeah, you heard me right. User voting should be a thing made up and done by, well, users like you!

What does this mean? Basically, you can choose to give any user of your choice an award that doesn't fit in the above categories yet you still think they deserve to be recognized for it! You can come up with the name of that award yourself, and they can be as fun or as serious as you want them to be, but remember to be considerate! NOTE: Any award deemed rude or inflammatory will be deleted immediately and result in a warning.

Some examples:

- Most Prolific Writer
- Most Dedicated Writer
- Most Improved Writer
- Most Edgy Writer
- Best Worldbuilder

These awards will not count for badges since they do not fit in traditional categories. They can, however, be put on the user's trainer card for that added touch of personalization and recognition. <3 A banner will also be made for these users!

Feel free to explain why you want to give this user the award you came up with, but again, it's not required. I will add to the list of these awards as they come in.

User voting will end on Friday, January 19, 2017! Judging should also hopefully be completed around that time.

If there are any questions at all about user voting, recommended reading, or judging, feel free to post here or message me!

Months ago, I wouldn't have thought that the little PMD fic I started on a spur would put me up here. To win one of my two nominated awards would be wonderful, yes, but I'm just so heartened by the nominations themselves; I know I'll come out from this happily. Good luck to my fellow writers!

Best Reviewer

@Athena

What I can I say, they’re harsh but also thorough and are willing to give you extra advice if you have any doubts. It helps that their reviews also tend to be pretty fun to read and they always point out the smallest details most might not see.

Best Contributor

@diamondpearl876

It feels kind of unfair since she’s the head, but like I said when i suggested it, she’s helped the workshop a lot over the years and has helped it move forward pretty well since she took over as head.

Most Adaptive Writer
@Ghostsoul

A big part of what makes Infinite Reins so special is that Ghosty here has a knack for understanding characters and what makes them thick, allowing them to come off just as they would in the show while also behave in a way that makes sense for what’s established.

Most Explosive Writer
@AceTrainer14

He doesn’t do it literally quite as much anymore, but Ace’s stories are always action packed and explosive, in a metaphorical sense, when th larger than life characters and stories to match.

Most Missed a Writer

@kintsugi

She just needs to be here more :p

Best Artist

@canisaries

Have you seen their drawings? They’re just awesome.

There's still a few more days to get your use voting in, guys! If you'd prefer to vote privately, then feel free to PM me instead of posting here. While it's not something that's been done in the past, I realize posting in public like this can be nerve-wracking for some, so the option is there.

Most Prolific Writer: @lucarioknight56, @Athena

Most Edgy Writer: @kintsugi

Best Action Writer: @AetherX, @Flaze

Most Improved Writer: @jasonwolf

Most Ambitious Writer: @Twilight-Kun, @canisaries, @Misfit Angel, @Ghostsoul

@Arkadelphiak you can't vote for yourself but I'll vouch for Best Shitposter. If anyone notices the VMs Arkadelphiak leaves on other WWer profiles when she's drunk, you'll know why.

Best Slice-of-life Writer: @Beth Pavell (tempted to do Best Lemon Writer too but I'll behave)

Most Dedicated Writer: @AceTrainer14, @AetherX

Best Reviewer: @Athena

Best Newcomer: @TRNatalie

Best Worldbuilder: @Misfit Angel

Honestly only one catagory I feel I can speak for.

Best Reviewer: @Beth Pavell (constantly keeping up with new chapters, and them stopping by in the first place gave me the confidence and drive to keep writing the story)
