Game: LeafGreen
Current location: Cerulean City, before route 25
Pokémon available:
• Charmeleon
• Butterfree
• Beedrill
• Pidgeotto
• Raticate
• Spearow
• Pikachu
• Sandshrew
• Nidoqueen
• Nidoking
• Clefairy
• Jigglypuff
• Zubat
• Paras
• Mankey
• Kadabra
• Weepinbell
• Geodude
• Gyarados

Note: Feel free to take 'future' Pokémon into consideration; e.g. I will be picking up a Meowth on Route 5, a Farfetch'd in Vermillion City, a Diglett in Diglett's Cave and Drowzee on Route 11.

All Pokémon are raised to level 20 (except Weepinbell, which is level 21) and I am paying no attention to EVs/natures. Spearow is currently unevolved as I am saving evolution for level 25 (so that it can learn Aerial Ace).

I'm looking for a well-balanced, fun team that will see me through the game - challenges accepted! Which 6 should I continue the game with? YOU decide!

Pikachu
Gyarados
Charmeleon
Weepinbell
Jigglypuff
Nidoqueen / Nidoking.

I guess...

Go with some of the less convential stuff I say. No doubt they'll get several suggestions, but things like Charizard, Gyarados, Butterfree and Pidgeot have been done to death and are super boring in that regard.

Of the list, I'd personally go with Weepinbell, Clefairy, Nidoqueen, Mankey, Paras, Sandshrew.

For the sake of a challenge I'd pick up that Farfetch'd and give it a shot, but it's pretty weak in comparrison to everything else, so it depends if don't want it to clash with the rest, I guess. Though having said that, when's the next time you'll ever even think of training one?

1. Charmeleon
2. Pikachu
3. Mankey
4. Spearow
5. Kadabra
6. Nidoqueen/king (it doesn't matter)

Personally, when I'm making a team, I like to have alot of variety in my Pokemon's Types. So if it were me, I would go with:

-Charmeleon
-Pidgeotto
-Pikachu
-Nidoking/Nidoqueen
-Weepinbell
-Gyarados

I'd really consider using Paras. Not becouse it's any good nor anything, but it's rarely used and I can see it making the game considerably different.

I also agree with trying out Farfetch'd. I'd consider the Drowzee, too.

And I've gone through the game with a Sandshrew. It can be actually really useful on the right team.

Charmeleon - Don't be a douche and leave your chosen one in the PC. Make sure to let him use lots of fire moves to use up his Sp. Attack, and let him loose on anything else!
Nidoking - Both Ground and Poison can be used by his physical strength. And in the end, any psychic opponent can get a Megahorn in the face if they dare oppose him.
Mankey - This guy is mad. Mad with power. Brutal fighting maneuvers to knock everything down, and if you tutor him Rock Slide, he will become your own personal stone dispenser. Rock on.
Weepinbell - Grass moves and status powders! Just what you need in a world filled with rocks, water creatures and ground freaks!

Otherwise, some of my own choices would be:

Dodrio - It takes a while to reach his territory, but with Tri Attack and Drill Peck on his moveset, the wait for filling in the bird slot will be worthwhile.
Slowbro/Starmie/Dewgong/Lapras - Water and Ice goes VERY WELL together. Or, teach the psychic ocean dwellers some ice moves and they will have three types of moves who all utilises their Special attack.

I'd really consider using Paras. Not becouse it's any good nor anything, but it's rarely used and I can see it making the game considerably different.
Paras is a choice of the heart. His Sp.A won't make for a good grass offensive, and there are no strong bug moves yet for him to use. So if you wanna use him, make sure to like him.

Which I do, and my Parasect in FireRed is doing fine!

Choose whichever you like ;) They don't have to be good competativly by the way, I had a wigglytuff on leafgreen which worked wonders for me. Do wait with evolving jigglypuff till he knows hyper voice though.

This is just personal preference and what I think would work out the best.

• Charmeleon
• Nidoking
• Zubat
• Kadabra
• Weepinbell
• Gyarados

Charmeleon
Pikachu
Beedrill
Gyrados
Geodude
Kadabra

The above is of Pokemon that i find useful.
