In a special collaboration between The Pokémon Company and The National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo, a new touring exhibit called the Pokémon Kaseki Hakubutsukan (ポケモン化石博物館) will be going on its own special Pokémon journey around Japanese museums for the next two years. The exhibit is designed to create an exciting and fun learning environment for children to learn about paleontology. Guided by Excavation Pikachu and Dr. Kaseki, a new Pokémon Professor created specifically for this exhibit, visitors will be given the opportunity to compare and contrast the fossils of real-life Dinosaurs and extinct plants with Fossil Pokémon.

The exihibit will start touring with a little over two months month at the Mikasa City Museum in Hokkaido in July 2021. Interestingly, this Museum appears to be the real world equivalent of the Oreburg Mining Museum from Pokémon's Sinnoh region, with both being well known for their extensive Fossil and coal exhibits. What, if any, implication this might have given upcoming Pokémon games set in Sinnoh remains to be seen.

After completing its term in Mikasa City Museum, the exhibit will move to the Shimane Prefectural Nature Museum of Mt. Sanbe "Sahimel" in Autum 2021, before travelling to The National Museum of Nature and Science in Spring 2022, followed up by a stop at the Toyohashi Museum of Natural History in Summer 2022. Further locations for the tour through the rest of 2022 and into 2023 will be announced in future.

The artist responsible for the main artwork of this exhibition is Hitoshi Ariga, whose work on the Pokémon TCG (with over 100 cards since 2011 to their name) led to them being recruited by Ken Sugimori to work on Pokémon and Character design for the main series games starting with Pokémon X and Y.
