Niantic has announced details for the Luminous Legends Y event. Following the debut of Xerneas, the other Legendary Pokémon from Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, the Destruction Pokémon Yveltal will be appearing in Pokémon GO. The Luminous Legends Y event will be split into two parts; part 1 focuses on Dark-type Pokémon and Team GO Rocket and part 2 focuses on Fairy-type Pokémon and Eevee. Yveltal will be appearing in five-star raids throughout the event.

Part 1
Dark-type Pokémon, like Houndour and Carvanha will be appearing more frequently in the wild. Pokémon like Spritzee, Swirlix, and Goomy from the Luminous Legends X event will also be returning. Alolan Rattata, Alolan Meowth, Alolan Grimer, Sneasel, Poochyena, Stunky, and Purrloin will be hatching from 7 km Eggs. Alolan Meowth will also appear in raids. Completing event-exclusive Field Research tasks will lead to encounters with Galarian Zigzagoon, Scraggy, and more. Galarian Zigzagoon can also be encountered if you complete event-exclusive AR Mapping tasks.

Team GO Rocket will be turning more Pokémon into Shadow Pokémon. Some Team GO Rocket Grunts will specialize in different Pokémon types than in the past, and multiple Team GO Rocket Grunts may challenge you at once. During the event, Pancham will be hatching from Strange Eggs. Qwilfish, Larvitar, Absol, Skorupi, Sandile, Scraggy, Pawniard, Vullaby, and Deino will also be hatching from Strange Eggs during and after the event. A Charged TM can be used to help a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration. There are also Team GO Rocket–themed Timed Research tasks. From May 15, 2021, at 12:00 a.m. to May 23, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. UTC, if Trainers worldwide defeat 25 million Team GO Rocket Grunts in total, special bonuses will be available from May 25, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to May 31, 2021, at 8:00 p.m. local time. The bonuses are 3× Catch XP bonus, and Galarian Zigzagoon will appear in the wild and in one-star raids. Shiny Galarian Zigzagoon will make their debut.

Part 1 will take place on May 18, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to May 24, 2021, at 8:00 p.m. local time.
