An Intertoys toy store in Voorburg, Netherlands last week, was subjected to a ram raid by two thieves who appeared to be targeting over popular Pokémon cards and high-end LEGO sets.
According to a press release issued by Dutch Police, the perpetrators rammed into the front of the store with a white van at around 9:30pm last Friday. Witnesses were able to provide police with the license plate number, and the vehicle used in the raid was found later that evening on the Soesterbergstraat in The Hague. At this stage in time, the ram raiders are still at large, and it's not clear if police have any specific suspects that they're investigating. Police have urged anyone with information about the case to contact them.
The exact items taken by the thieves were not reported, but speaking to Omroep West, the manager of this Intertoys store said that "Part of the facade is broken. Fortunately, we are prepared for this kind of madness and we have laminated glass in the front, which is why they have been able to do little. But this involves a lot of money. The Lego Masters program has made lego extremely popular and Pokémon is also worth a lot of money. They were also right in that corner with the ram attack."
The Netherlands is unfortunately no stranger to high profile thefts of Pokémon cards. Last December, a collection of Pokémon cards worth almost €50,000 was stolen from a private collector in Kampen. While three people were arrested in relation to that robbery back in July, the cards were apparently sold to buyers in France by the time the thieves were taken into custody.
