A little thing that I noticed that changed between generations II and IV is that the frame rate of the games dropped from 60 Frames Per Second (FPS) to 30 FPS. The rate is most evident when running or moving at high speeds. You notice that a lot of other things are slower in these games - attack animations, surfing speed (although it's faster in Platty/HGSS), and other things are effected.

Do you prefer the faster style of Gen III, or like the more cinematic style of Gen IV? Personally, I could never stand the speed of Gen III - it seemed as though the game was trying to rush me into finishing it. The slower pace made the game more enjoyable for me, as the lower frame rate gave the game a more cinematic feel to me. I wonder if Nintendo will keep the games at 30 FPS for the foreseeable future.

III seemed way faster paced than IV because of the higher FPS. It also had simpler animations, not complex ones like on IV and the console games. And i also like faster paced games.

I too liked the fast paced games a lot better, I sometimes didn't play Platinum for days because it was soooooo slow.

I really didn't mind platinum's speed. The only time it bothered me was in caves and the like when lots of wild pokemon would just keep appearing. It actually bothered me more when I went back to replay Ruby after "finishing" Platinum.
