I am getting one of these two systems and I need to know which one I should end up picking.

Please help?

I didn't give a lot of details because I felt it'd limit opinions.

I like online gaming and I want to pretend we have no budget.

I enjoy the Banjo-Kazooie series on the 360 as well as the Metal Gear series which is prominent on the PS3. Sonic Unleashed as well as other third-party games are better on the 360, and XBLA seems more fine-tuned than PSN. I'm a retro gamer. Perfect Dark 64 is coming to XBLA, and Jetpac Refuelled, Frogger 2, and Soulcalibur are already there. ModNation Racers and LittleBigPlanet are PS3 games I like, and The Last Guardian looks good too.

And this is why it's so hard to decide. XP

How so? From what I've read, PSN seems the same as XBL except without the fees.

If online gaming didn't matter, would 360 still be the way to go?

I would say yes because in my opinion, the 360 has better exclusives than the PS3. But the PS3 does have slightly better graphics, so if that matters a lot to you then maybe you should go with the PS3

What "better" exclusives are on the 360?

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I do not care for motion sensors and prefer to play with a classic controller. I prefer the 360's controller, I'll add.

Well, I'm a big Halo guy so that was key for me. I'm into shooters and sports games mainly, and the 360 has most of the good shooters (Halo, Gears of War...) and the sports games are pretty much all shared.

again, the better remark is my opinion, and may not be what you or other people think.

I like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, but I turned Metroid Prime off right after the first save point and never went back. I like Half-Life, but I play the Half-Life series games on my PC. For sports, I stick to Blades of Steel on my NES. :p

Oh, and the N64 Turok games were nice.

In that case, I might not be the most helpful person to ask, due to the fact you don't seem to play the same genres that I do.

Er... I would say that if either system feels right to you, just get it. That's what I did when I got my 360 and I couldn't be happier.

That's the problem. They both feel right to me but there's no way I'll be able to get both. :\

If you can get Live, I'd get the 360. There's way too much to offer on there to pass it up for graphics.

360 is IMO just better than the PS3.

They're basically the same system, actually. The only real differences are the online, the exclusives, and the Red Ring of Death.

In the online department, it's about equal. The 360 is better if you love talking to people, but note that most of the people you talk to will be 12-year-olds who act like hot shit and scream in rage if you kick their ass. The PS3 is free, but not everyone will have a mic. The PS3 also lets you use cash directly when buying from the store, rather than a points system.

In the exclusives department, it depends. Each console has their own fair share of exclusives, as well as non-exclusives that are better on one console. A short list...

- PS3
Metal Gear Solid 4
InFamous
Resistance: Fall of Man
Resistance 2
Killzone 2
LittleBigPlanet
Flower
MotorStorm
MotorStorm: Pacific Rift
Heavenly Sword
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

- 360 (...damn it, I should be better at this.)
Fable II
Dead Rising (the Wii version is a pathetic excuse for a game)
Crackdown
Gears of War
1 vs. 100
Castle Crashers
Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned
Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony (only 360 gets the download packs)
Halo 3

Or for a more "full" list, check here for 360 and here for PS3. Note that there's some that I'm missing that are on PC as well as 360, being essentially exclusive the one console.

And the dreaded red ring of death. If you get a 360, know full well it has a very limited lifespan. You can do things to increase it, though I don't know what they are (but there are ways; I have a launch 360 that still lives). At least you can get it fixed for free! The PS3 is much more hardy, though. Someone tested six PS3s; two under very hot, moist conditions, two in very cold conditions, and two controls; all running the same series of games and movies for 72 hours. There were some hiccups in the cold ones, but not a single one failed when all was said and done.

In summary, I'd base it off the games if nothing else. If you "want to pretend [you] have no budget.", then the PS3 is definitely the way to go for online (it's not half bad, actually, eevn without mics). And remember, the PS3 has PSOne Classics. You get more modern classics, like Castlevania: SOTN, Crash Bandicoot 1-3, Spyro the Dragon, Final Fantasy VII, and Metal Gear Solid (being released soon I heard!); plus you can play all old PS1 games you have on disc (and if you have an earlier model, most PS2 games). Live Arcade gets you things like Banjo-Kazooie, Goldeneye (I think; but it hasn't aged well), and Turtles in Time.

Overall, I'd say get the PS3 for now, if only for your "no budget" comment. It needs more support, anyway. :p

If you like retro gaming, buy a Wii. Virtual Console FTW. Nuff said. XD, lools, etc.

Goldeneye is not on XBLA, because of legal issues (whining on Nintendo's end).

Metal Gear Solid comes out for PSOne Classics next week (or this week, or something. It's next in line and that's what matters.) However, PSP is just as capable of playing these PSOne Classics.

I hear the next 360s will be RROD-free. We'll see.

Oh, and I already have a Wii, complete with just about every well-known Virtual Console game. :p

I have a PS3 and I love it! So I vote for that despite never owning a 360.

In terms of Xbox 360 vs. PS3 it really all depends on what you prefer. I have a 360 because I love Xbox Live and Xbox Live Arcade. Both of those features were big reasons, why I got the 360. I also really enjoyed playing both Mass Effect and Fable 2 and both are on the 360, but if you’re not into RPGs (especially Western-style RPGs like those two games are), you’ll likely not enjoy them as much.

As for the whole Red Ring of Death, I have an Elite that I got from December 2007 and I haven’t any problems, so far.

I’m sure PS3 is a good system too. I mean you get a build-in Blu-Ray Player, if you’re into that sort of thing and have some good exclusive games, but Live, Live Arcade, and being able to play games like Mass Effect and Fable 2 are the reason why I went with 360.
