4Kids Plans Sale of Yu-Gi-Oh!

Gonna move this to Rising Sun, since it's primarily about an anime (admittedly it's the sale of the American release, but it's an anime nonetheless).

It says on this link that Saban bought just Yu-Gi-Oh and the TV rights to Dragon Ball Z Kai, but we found out right here (read pages 12-16!) that Saban bought the entire CW4Kids block from 4Kids, this includes the following shows so far:

  • Chaotic
  • Cubix
  • Viva Pinata
  • Cabbage Patch Kids (don't ask me why)
  • Classic Thundercats (the current series is still owned by Warner Brothers)
I'm honestly surprised that someone actually bought out CW4Kids, and the creators of Power Rangers no less, now only question is what they will do with it...

I hope these guys will release DVD's with subs. PLEEEASSE release subs!
As I understand it, 4kids retains the dubbing rights, so that's up to them.

Oh, I see. I hope they make the right choice. (SUBS!)

I'm not too sure on that, for example look at Digimon. Saban only released it dubbed, and there has been no offical dub rerelease excluding the dub movie on DVD either, just old VHS releases with a few eps each on them and bootleg TV recordings of the dub.

Why subs? I honestly prefer dubs. For two reasons. One, I've never been a fan of Japanese voice acting, and two, I'd like to hear voices that I can understand, not just read English words on a screen, thanks.

I've gotten used to looking at subs. And I'm quite fond of the Japanese voice acting. I don't have a real problem with the dubs, they just sometimes mess stuff up.

Anyway, I really hope they can release both. Would it kill them to put subs on the DVD as an option? -_-

With some anime, it's a lot more complicated than it seems. I believe 4kids at one point had subs of the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime on their YouTube channel, but had to take them down because of legal trouble with the Japanese VA of Yami yugi.

So they did, huh? Guess I can't complain and say they didn't try. -_-

Hopefully there won't be any drama with this new group.

I want to see the "uncut" dub... where they changed the wording to be more accurate and they left the cards un-edited. I think they did part of the first season and then stopped, and they don't make the DVDs anymore so I haven't been able to purchase it.

And what I really want to see if the first series dubbed, although that's not going to happen since 4Kids never even had the rights to that in the first place. But check this out (hope this doesn't break the rules for copyright infringement):

That's a fan-made clip where someone took the audio from episode 1 of the second series and matched it up with the video of that similar part from the first series. I'd love to see the entire first series done... I love the story (well, it didn't really have a story but I loved all the shadow games) and the animation style was cool, better than some of the later episodes of the second series in my opinion... and Kaiba has green hair, lol

I thought they lost the rights for Yu-Gi-Oh for a long time now after all the copyright drama they're having?
