5th Gen news/ preview update thread.

I realize there's already quite a few 5th gen threads, but I though there should be one solely for news and updates on the subject,as well as theorys about it (not unlike the GSDS thread)

Anyway, you may remember this post.

Well, now there's this.

The 5th generation is definitely in the cards, and I'd say development is starting to get hot.

GameFreak has had limited hiring opportunities for the past 2 years or so, there's no doubt in my mind they're hiring for G5.

What puzzles me in how they're so open about it, I have no idea how much traffic the Blog gets, but still I'd think they'd keep this sort of thing under wraps. I used google translator for a quick traslation, but I bet there's more implied meaning that google didn't pick up.

2009/7 -Hiring (apparently) kicks into high gear.

Oh no, Gamefreak went on a pleasure cruise, that must mean they are trying to find inspiration for a super deluxe SS Kobayashi Maru that takes you to the Orange Islands and allows you to go diving for seekrit Water Legendary #7, which is none other than (dun dun dun) PIKABLU.

Seriously, meh.

Why would they? It's a staff blog, so of course it follows staff developments. Nothing of real sustenance as far as big hints or reveals will ever be posted on the staff blog. The director's columns is where things of that nature are most likely to show up.

Of course, people can infer and speculate based on the posts in the staff blog, but people do that anyway so it's not something Game Freak would be particularly worried about.

? In a game where capturing animals is the main gimmick, a team going to a zoo to draw and then hiring a bunch of main people isn't indicative of anything?

Would you similarly say that if say, they were doing games based on jet combat and the team suddenly went to a day at an aeronautics museum then hired a huge bunch of new people? Or time travel, and the team went to a historical museum and then hired a bunch of new people?
 
Zoo maybe. Hiring is a normal business practice, and I see no reason to infer anything from it. If they were looking for someone like a cryptid specialist, then I would be interested.
 
To be fair, this is all pretty non-news. While it's certain that Generation 5 is being worked on - and I'm as convinced as you that the zoo trip and renewed hiring opportunities are part of that development - development will have begun shortly after Diamond and Pearl launched and continued on even in the development of Platinum and HG/SS. So, I really wouldn't get too worked up over such minor details...

It's likely that the first Generation V Pokemon will be revealed at the end of this year (to debut in next year's movie), and that the first Gen V games will be released in either 2010 or 2011 - but until that first reveal comes along, there's not going to be a whole lot to really get excited about...
 
I think we can assume 5th gen has been in development regardless of any info. There are still millions to be made with Pokemon and from a business standpoint it simply makes no sense to stop now.
 
The business cards if anything are more of a hint then the hiring. Its obvious that using cards for a bunch of developers in a team working on games, having creatures made by the same company would point to a pokemon related project. That project no less would be the 5th gen. I really am starting to get intrigued cause its high time they get off their asses and show us one already. Movie 12 was high time but nope nothing.

Actually it wasn't. It was mo incentive to show of the upcoming HGSS with Johto based stuff. If anything 13th movie will show us something about Gen V.

If Pokemon is to continue, I don't see anything else but a Gen IV, I doubt anymore remakes this gen or of there is, people will start complaining that they have either, run out of ideas, no Gen V or similar and this would be bad for them. Anyway, if Gen V games are to appear before its too late (sometime in the next 2 years or at most 3, but I say 2) then they have to start working on something.
 
Shinx3000 movie 12 was perfect. Mix hgss with next gen and you would have been fine. Not to mention gen 5 will arrive the latest. Sure it will be known by this december but hell by then the league would start. 7th gym was always the perfect time but this time it wasn't. Only niggle with hgss I have.
 
Looks like they're starting to develop Gen V since HGSS is coming out soon. Seeing how HGSS was in the works for 3 years and other patterns, we can assume we'll see the 5th gen in another 2-3 years?

I think we might see a Gen V Pokemon in Movie 13 ala Munchlax in Movie 7. Also, those cards are awesome.

Pretty much guaranteed. We might even see a 5th gen Pokemon star with Ho-oh/Lugia.

Really reminds me how Movie 8 had a Kanto legend (Mew), Hoenn legends (the Regi trio), and a Sinnoh Pokemon (Lucario as the star) all in the same movie.

I'm going to view Movie 13 similar to the way I viewed Movie 8, the first movie after the main region is over (Movie 8 took place after Hoenn, but barely), but before the next generation.

That's what I keep asking. Personally, from a storytelling standpoint, I think that having anything come after Arceus would be anticlimactic. But Game Freak doesn't seem to care about the story so much anymore. All they want is more money.

I'm telling you, Game Freak, better stories make more money!
 
GF is moving really fast now. HGSS announced in the US prior to the Japanese release, jsut following the us release of Arceus, and now Gen V is getting started and Gen IV isn't even going down in popularity.

How exactly would that interfere with the story one iota? How exactly would anything after Arceus be anticlimatic? What exactly are you going on about?
