Now, Bulbagarden isn't a small forum- that's obvious. And theres probably a fair few people on here with medical or personal problems.

I was wondering, why don't we have a board for this? (sorry if a topic has been made similar to this one, I'm in a bit of a rush, and I don't have time to check!).

What I mean is, a board where, say, if someones just been diagnosed with... for example, Autism, they can tell people and get advice from people know know things about it and others who have it.

Or if people are, per say, going through trouble with friends or relationship troubles, they can make a topic asking for advice and getting thing off their chest...

I don't know, maybe my idea sucks... I'd like somewhere on here where I can discuss my medical problems and such...

Ehhh... this is kind of iffy. I'd say that social group(s) would be more appropriate for this sort of thing.

Just my two cents.

I'm going to agree with Poli...besides, I think, if you were to be diagnosed with something like that you would want to talk to a doctor or something. Not some schmo on a forum.

I agree with Sketch; if you have any medical questions it's better to talk to a doctor. The problem with public places like forums is that you will get people who believe and spread myths and such. When it comes to medical topics it's best to discuss it with someone who is in the field.

When the OP said "medical" things, I don't think he meant a place for people to post threads seeking medical treatment/diagnosis/advice, but rather, he meant threads about coping with serious medical problems (IE: autism, family member with a terminal illness, etc.). Like, say you just found out you're mother has terminal cancer or something, you'd be able to come and post, and hopefully find other people who've gone through it, and see if they can help you cope with the fact that someone you love is about to die. That said, I really don't think Bulbapedia would be the appropriate place for threads like that. There are lots of different forums on the internet for topics like that, many of them run by trained profesionals, which would be much better.

Though, I must admit, a forum for dicussing personal issues or simply venting does sound a bit appealing to me. I know that there are some things that I just can't talk about with people IRL, and having a place to talk about it (somewhat) anonymously would be great.

Everything pointed out in this post still goes back to the blog.

Yes, but a lot of users I know on here don't read others blogs. It'd be much easier to have a board...

I do see your point, you could make specific sets of rules or something that have to be followed... though...

Rules mean nothing if people don't follow them.

If they don't follow the rules, discipline them like you would any other member that breaks a rule anywhere else. Honestly, I can't see this being any more difficult to moderate than the Social Forum or any of the other non-Pokemon related forums.

I used to suggest the same thing once, but just for personal issues, because now they all end up in the social forum. Which is pretty annoying.

Agreed. I like the idea, but I don't think it would be well-executed on a forum.
1) Doctors are much more trustworthy than some forum goer when it comes to this
2) It would be damn hard to moderate properly
3) Social groups would be more appropriate. We have a bunch already (such as the Asperger's Syndrome/Autism group)

Oh no no no. I didn't mean it like that. I didn't mean, say, someone thinks they have flu, so they ask on a the board instead of going to a doctor. I mean if someone is diagnosed with it, they make a post on the forum and discuss other ways to deal with it. (like say a doctor gave them a medicine like Tamiflu, but they could also go on the board and ask for advice and someone could suggest say, drinking a lot of water in a day, or a certain type of food/drink/vitamin).

Or say if someone was diagnosed with... lets say Clinical Depression, they could talk about their problems, let off a little steam, and get advice.

I understand how you guys think blogs would be better for this but the problem is, not everyone on here reads blogs.
My doctors inching closer and closer to diagnosing me with clinic depression, and If I made a blog about it, no one would read it, or maybe one or two people would. If I made a topic, more people would look at it, read it, reply to it, ect.

(Above statement about the depression thing is true, not an example).

Also, it would be as easy to moderated as other forums. If people break the rules/be hurtful to users, they get punished. Simple as.

My point is though no one reads the blogs of users who aren't well known. I agree, blogs would be ideal for this, but that's only if people read them, and most don't.

Lets extend this and make it include more private issues as well, like sex and sexuality. Then, to prevent lurkers and new members from joining only to look at other peoples problems, make it so the only way to access the forum is to have 100 posts, be sixteen years of age or higher, and have minimal infractions.

Yeah, I agree with the above post, although without the infraction thing. I know a lot of mature users who have a heck load of infractions that wouldn't laugh if someone made a topic wondering if they were bisexual, for an example.
