Back before DP started, I remember seeing a scan of Ash with different clothes than he actually has, notably a hat with a Poké Ball turned on its side and split down the middle.

Is that scan still floating about?

I remember that too! I saw it on PokeBeach. I tried to find it again a week or so after I first saw it, but couldn't =/

Ah ha, I see....someone contact WPM and let him know we're looking for it, please?

I remember people joked he was being sponsored by Silph Co. because the split Poké Ball looked like an "S".

Yeah, I remember that Ash scan too. ^_^

And come to think of it, there was a thread in the anime forum where the pic was first posted......

I'll do a search and see if I can find that thread.

I don't know about it being fake......

Maybe it was an original concept drawing for Ash's Sinnoh outfit? Or at least, that's what it looks like to me.

Anyway, here's the pic:

What do you guys think?

Personally, I like the "S" hat a lot!! :)

It's definitely more original than just taking the design concept from Ash's Hoenn hat and making the Pokeball symbol blue. XD

While I do think the "S" design is more original, I'm rather happy they went with what they did. Having some blue on his hat evened out the color scheme better. Not to mention, what would've they done in the dub? The S clearly stands for Satoshi. Although they could've said it stood for Shinou, I'm pretty sure the designers realized how corny that would've been (not to mention at the time this design was made, they didn't know if the region name would remain the same overseas).

They probably changed it because then the dub would go nuts with paint edits, or people would be wondering "WHAT IS THE S FOR?!"

...like... you said. Damn, I need to refresh more often.

Whoa I haven't seen that before. XD S stand for Sinnoh and Satoshi! Though oooh, the dub version might have had it as A. -falls over-

They still can kept the S in dub and said it stands Sarah :-D

That scan came from a Japanese imageboard and it looked real. Looking back at it, I think it's some test designs that the animators released by accident.

I don't think PUSA (or 4kids, before anyone brings them up) would have gone to the trouble of changing the hat logo when it probably wouldn't even have been verbally linked to Ash's name.
