How many different versions are there? From my understanding there's Pocket Monsters Aka, Midori, and Ao, (Red, Green, Blue) then Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow, Yellow being the same in both japan and other regions other than translations.

Is there a changelog for version differences?

:3

Red/Green JP 1.0

Inital version.

RG 1.1

Changes lavender town music so it has fewer high notes, causes creepypasta decades later. Also removes Dokokashira door glitch.

Blue.

Same changes as 1.1, updated engine, thunderbolt animation is changed from flashing, possibly due to porygon incident, MUCH BETTER SPRITES.

US R/B

Mish Mash of Red/Green data with Blue engine. Introduces Surf glitch, now English, reuses Blue engine/Sprites with red/green data, with original intro in Red and uses Blue's dialogue for a few translation errors.

JP Yellow

Adds audio compression for Pikachu's voice, Some other engine changes, surf glitch removed, Missingno much different, no GBC support, plot changed to match the Anime (Ex, Nurse Joy with Chansey, TRio, Pika, etc.), new sprites, GB Printer now supported.

There were also 3 versions of JP Yellow, 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2. All lacked GBC support, while the GBC support in the US version was basically Super Game Boy type pallette switching.

US Yellow

GBC support, usual translation, a few glitches patched, Adds automatic colorization.

All the changes I can think of.

BTW, Translated games =/= originals. Stuff is changed both in the engine and in the game itself (sometimes with fewer features)

Thank you!

The Lavender Town Syndrome creepypasta is awesome. :D

The Dokokashira Door Glitch is really impressive. There's a video on Youtube of someone beating the game without any Pokemon, the first time I've heard about that.

Very helpful. ^_^

Yeah, I made a few videos of it too:

There's even a charizard 'm variant exclusive to green caused by that glitch.

There's also how the international Red-Blue has some later localized versions with the coast tile glitch fixed. (Preventing the Old Man glitch)

That bugfix was later included in all Yellow versions.

I doubt it, because Pocket Monsters Blue was released in Japan in October 1996, and that episode of the anime did not air until December 1997.

1:36, Charizard holding a flower? :3

Aww...

9:29, OMFG!!!!!!1! ;_;

The Lavender Town theme is so awesome. X3

It also didn't happen in the JP version of Red/Green, and the normal missingno would cause a freeze up.

The 'pedia says it was due to seizures, but then again the 'pedia also says you can't evolve Eevee to Umbreon/Espeon in RSE.

^ one of my favorite glitches. Didn't know you could catch Ghost though... o_q
