Hello everyone! As the holidays approach, what better way is there to spread some cheer (while being Pokemon related) than a giveaway? This is more of a contest than a giveaway in truth, but everyone has a chance! All you have to do to enter is tell me about:

A) The worst snowstorm/blizzard/winter storm you've been through. School cancelled for a week, stranded at an airport, whatever. Give me the best and the worst =P

Or

B) The biggest surprise you've experienced during Christmas/whatever other holiday you celebrate. Distant relative come to visit, best friend pops in without telling you...you get the idea.

The winner will be the 'story' that I think is either the most exciting or the most touching. Something funny could have a chance too, but please don't try and turn your experience into something it wasn't. Be honest with yourself and with me! No telling stories that didn't happen.

This contest will run until December 22nd, the last day I have access to Internet before I go to New York to visit my family. I will probably decide on the winner before I leave, and hopefully I will have a chance to give the winner their prize before I leave. But of course, if that can't happen I'll trade as soon as our schedules coincide.

Alright, I think I've dragged it out long enough. The winner of the contest will recieve...

Quite a gift, as far as I'm concerned. Finished it today at a Christmas Party, some of my fellow Pokemon players got to see it appear live, which was pretty cool =) If you don't win the contest, you can always go to my Shop thread and post an offer for it there.

Good luck to everyone!

I'll do A.

It was Christmas Eve 2 years ago. All the highways and interstates were frozen, traffic completely died, and everyone was trapped inside wherever they were by 14 inches of snow. So my family had to wait until the blizzard died. I was totally sad that Christmas Eve was cancelled forme. Thankfully I had my Pokemon Platinum, some new bakugan, and some chocolate to get me through that rough and tough night. In the end the blizzard subsided and I got my presents. Fin.

here's B.

I remember when i got my first phone on christmas, and it was very creative. my parents hid it in the tree, and then after i was finished with presents, they called it.

I'll go with A

Lets see I believe it was back in 2001, just about a few weeks or so into the New Year, my mom (a nurse at the time) had left early in the morning to go to the hospital in the next town to work while me, my dad, and brother stayed home. It had already been snowing when she had left, but it wasn't until midmorning that the "Light snowfall" the news said we were getting turned into a full on snow & ice storm. We got 8 inches at my house (which is on a hill) while others in town had close to 14, everything had a layer of ice over it too, so you couldn't even walk through the snow without slipping. The power had gone out sometime after noon so we were stuck in the living room, covered in blankets, in front of the fireplace we couldn't use because my brother had thrown a shoe in it years before that was now thoroughly stuck. Luckily we had a cell phone on us and that was how we got the call from my mom saying that she would be spending the night at the hospital since the roads were too dangerous to drive on, well......1 night became 3 and on the 4th day when the roads had been salted (or whatever that is) to melt the ice and the snow was no londer falling, she had gone out to her car and tried to get in but found out she couldn't. Turns out the lock had frozen over so it wouldn't turn, not only that but she managed to break the key in 2 trying to unlock it. She called us telling us what had happened and asked my dad what he thought she should do, they eventually decided that my dad would drive out there to pick her up while my brother and I stayed home, and that they would call a locksmith to try and open the car door. Well after my dad drove like an hour to get there, my mom had the brilliant idea of pouring hot water from the hospital coffee machine on the lock to see if that would unfreeze it, it did and using the spare key my dad had on him, she drove the car back home with my dad following behind in the other car. All that took around 3 hours, and my brother and I were bored and freezing by the time they got home.

Did learn some very interesting things from it all though: 1. If theres been an ice storm don't try opening any locks without pouring hot water on them first 2. Being stuck at home freezing and bored with your brother is pure hell and 3. McDonalds has its own generator and is open in freezing weather (my parents brought McD's home to eat)

Have another A good sir.

A few days before Christmas, Portland was hit with quite a few inches of snow. Enough snow that some areas had declared a state of emergency. Despite the fact that the frost had rendered the car unusable, my Mom had the idea visit a friend. So me, my brother and our Mom trekked across the frosted land to a bus stop. And waited. And waited. And waited. I even got my brother to lick a Stop Sign. It took a wretched forty minutes for a bus to arrive and it was packed with other iced over people. The ride was uneventful, but when we got off only blocks from the destination? It was like a movie. Untouched and abandoned. The gray sky and falling ice that could cut skin. My fingers burned and the wind howled. Like some forsaken city following the apocalypse, only the forlorn air whispered as it rushed around abandoned cars. The feeling that one could die vanished once the home was spotted. It was only at this point I discovered how badly my ungloved hands had stiffened as I struggled with a simple latched gate, gave up, and swung over the waist high fence. My Mom gave me a look as I jaunted up to the door and loudly knocked. Soon we were inside and handed a bowl of hot water to hold and slowly defrost with. Personally, nothing hurts as much as warming up fingers. Not having teeth shaped and tightened. Not having a broken wrist. Not even having my mouth wired shut for a week. Disappointment set in as my Mom and her friends started talking about slash fic and Harry Potter. Expecting the worst, me and my brother settled into a corner with a plate of Latkes and apple sauce and started chatting at hyper-speeds about various video games. Someone put Batman Beyond in the DvD player and the slashers stopped slashing. After the movie ended people said their goodbyes and once again, me, my brother and our Mom turned back into the arctic desert. The faint trail of our foot steps led back to the bus stop and the endless wait set in. It took nearly two hours for a bus to arrive and another forty-five to get home to a worried Dad.

B.

I had asked for Pokemon Platinum for Christmas, and I was really excited that morning. I hadn't opened the game, and I had one present left. When I opened it, it was a CD. It wasn't Platinum, so I screamed and threw it across the room. My parents then revealed that the game was inside the CD case, hiding. Oops. They thought it was funny, but I still think it was cruel.

There was a terrible snowstorm back in 05 and I was stuck in school for a bit. It was fun, me and my friends were hanging out and it was almost christmas, so I was excited. Then I got a phone call from my dad in the hospital. My mom was in labor! I convinced my teacher to let me out and trekked 2 miles in NYC to the hospital in the freezing cold. Then I find out I had gotten the adress wrong o.0.
That is the story of how I nmissed my little brothers birth and was stuck in the snow for an hour, lost.
I swear this is true

Here's B:

Back In '05 I Asked for my first DS, and me being somewhat of a spoiled child expected to get it. So On Christmas morning I woke about about 4 o'clock in the moring, then naturally woke everyone else up to, so we could open our presents. So me looking for the DS specifically, after all my presents where open, I was really dissapointed... I looked at my parents and they looked like they were about to Burst into luaghter... then they told me I have on more present left but i have to find it cause they hide it... so naturally I thought "MY DS! MUST FIND!" so i search a majority of the house and finally i looked under the pool table... to find a large box in the shape of a clyinder (not to high of a box bout 6 or 7 inichs, but about a foot and a 1/2 wide) so i tear open the paper to find another box -_- and then when i open that box all i find are a bunch of cookies... Like the whole contianer was filled with about a 100 or so small indivudaully wrapped chocolate chip cookies... I really wanted to cry... but naturally my fat kid instincts kicked in and i started to eat the cookies... after about 3 i just decided to dump all the cookies on the floor for more easy pickings... and to my surpirse there was a home made fake bottom cut out of card-board that read "Gotcha" so I opened the fake bottom to find a Limited Edition Teal DS with a few games ♥

Indeed it is. And, anyone out there who wishes to make or edit their submission can do so until Saturday at 4 PM EST. After that, the contest is closed and I will announce the winner. Good luck to everyone =)

EDIT: Alright, well, due to the absence of any new posts today (and that my parents have decided to leave in about an hour instead of tomorrow night -.-), I'm closing the contest early. I don't have the winner chosen (decisions, decisions) but since neither of two top story authors are on right now I'm not going to pressure myself to. I don't currently know if I'll be able to trade or RNG in New York. Both of those depend upon whether or not I can snag wifi at my grandparents house, which would be kind of weird. If I don't see anyone until after I get back, happy holidays to everyone =)
