Hellog uys. This is my second fic, after one completely unnoticed one-shot about Glitch City. Instead of that, I decided to make a fic about the R/B(or FR/LG if you may) games. It's essentially a rewrite, but instead of the male character as the protagonist, I put the female character as the protagonist instead.

Also, there are several differences from the game, including but not limited to differences in dialogue, description of locations and etc. But I hope you won't mind.

And now with the table of contents!

Chapter 1: A New Day, A New Journey
Chapter 2: Off To Viridian City!
Chapter 3: The Eternally Green Paradise
Chapter 4: Returning to Pallet Town!
Chapter 5: The Pokedex!
Chapter 6: Leah's First Capture
Chapter 7: Fiddling With The Pokedex
Chapter 8: Teachy TV
Chapter 9: A Meeting With Blue
Chapter 10: A Challenger Appears!
Chapter 11: Similar Goals
Chapter 12: The Rock-hard Gym
Chapter 13: Prey and Predator
Chapter 14: Majestic Mt. Moon
Chapter 15: Blue yet Again
Chapter 16: The Challenge of Nugget Bridge

I hope you enjoy.

Chapter 1: A New Day, A New Journey

"Yes, yes, yes! Oh no, no, don't! Whew. I can...wait! How the hell did that happen!? That's impossible!" said a girl in her room as she was busy playing a video game.

"Oh well, guess I'll just finish it next time." She said. She then left her room and went down to the living room of her house.

"Well, if it isn't my little sunshine!" The girl's mom said with a squeal.
"Oh hi, mom."
"You've grown up a lot, Leah. 11 years old and now you're gonna be a Pokemon trainer just like your dad!"
"Yup. Too bad Dad's dead."
"Yeah. But anyways, it's time to go! Professor Oak is waiting for you next door!"
"Yes, mom. I'll be on my way!" Leah said. With her blue sleeveless shirt, her favorite hat and her red skirt, along with a bag, she was ready to start the day.

She left the house and took a stroll to Prof. Oak's lab, which is near a river leading out of Pallet Town, where she lived.

Pallet Town is quite the bustling place, as the downtown area is full of markets, shops and many more. Outside of that area, a beautiful suburban area thrives. Beutifully decorated with flowers of all kinds, the town is endless in its beauty.

Soon Leah finally arrived at Oak's lab, but he was nowhere to be found. She then asked one of his assistants where he was.

"Excuse me, mister. Where is Prof. Oak?" Leah asked.
"Well, hi there...um...your Leah, right? Prof. Oak told me about you." the assistant said.
"Yeah, but I'm asking about Prof. Oak."
"Oh yeah, that's right. Well, Leah, Prof. Oak is in Cinnabar Island by the lab out there. Apparently, he found some weird fossil at Mt. Moon while he was out studying out there. The fossil appeared to be incomplete, but Oak said he could try to find a more complete one the next time he heads out there."
"Wow. Anyways, thanks! I think I'll just roam around for a while." Leah replied.

So she headed out. Prof. Oak would take a while, so she decided to look around anyway.

It was then that she stumbled upon Blue, a friend of hers and the grandson of Prof. Oak. He was dressed in a indigo shirt and black pants...not much else.

"What, it's only Leah? Anyways, have you finished that "Gunslinger" game I let you borrow?" He asked.
"Nope, not yet. I'm stuck on that boss on Level 14." She replied.
"Get a game guide. It'll help. Anyways, I'm headed for the market, I'm gonna buy some soda while waiting for ol' Gramps. Smell ya later!" Blue said as he walked away.
"Yeah. Bye." She replied.

Blue left without a word, and Leah continued to roam around.

Time passed, and Leah eventually found herself in a part of Pallet Town that she hasn't been before. Lost, she began to unknowingly head to Route 1, a dirt road with lots of tall grass surrounding it that leads to the nearby Viridian City.

She had barely walked into the route when she heard a voice shout "Hey! Wait! Don't go out!".

Turning back to see who was shouting, she saw Prof. Oak running at her.

"It's unsafe, Leah! Wild Pokemon live in tall grass!" Oak said.
"Here? But it's just a dirt road with grass beside it and some trees ar...wait, this leads out of Pallet, right?" She asked.
"Yes. But the route contains Pokemon that may attack you. Pokemon have abilities that can harm you. Some are more harmful than others. Here, follow me. You do know that you're gonna get your new Pokemon, right?" Oak asked.
"Yup!" Leah excitedly replied.
"Very well then. I find it great that you're following in the footsteps of your father.

And so Leah followed Prof. Oak to his lab, where Blue was already waiting.

"Gramps! I'm fed up o' waitin'!" Blue complained to Oak.
"Blue? Let me think.....oh, that's right! I told you to come! Just wai..."
"I've been waitin' since I woke up! Why do I still need to wait!?" Blue impatiently replied.
"Alright, alright. Pick any of these three Pokemon on the table. And Leah, do wait for a while, Blue is quite the impatient person" Oak replied.

Laid on the table were 3 pokeballs completely identical to one another.

"Oh wait! I forgot to open the Pokeballs! Darn my memory." Oak said as he opened the Pokeballs for Blue and Leah.

Oak took the balls and opened them. Each time he opened one, a bright flash appeared followed by a small Pokemon about the size of a toddler.

"Anyways, here they are, in all of their young glory. These three are Pokemon that I've chosen for you to pick. Each has a type which would be weak to the other. Much like you, they're only kids and are barely even half a year old. You can pick any of the three, and since there are two of you, I'll keep the one that isn't chosen. An old man like me needs friends, you know." Oak said.

"Anyways, Blue, since you're in such a hurry, pick one." He said.

Blue was a little confused on which to pick. Unlike his friend, he knew a lot about Pokemon and was trying to choose which Pokemon would be stronger.

Blue picked up one of the Pokemon, a Charmander, which looked like a red salamander with a tail on fire. "Char?" The Pokemon cutely replied.

"Ah, Charmander. You should raise it patiently, as Charmanders are known to be quite unresponsive. And with your impatience, he would teach you."

But Blue knew about all of the Gym Leaders they would face in his journey as a trainer, and the first two leaders have have Rock-typed and Water-typed Pokemon, respectively. Charmander is a Fire type, weak to both Rock and Water types. Blue didn't want this difficulty, so he refused the Charmander.

"Sorry, Gramps. I don't think Charmander would be a good start, especially with the first two Gym leaders." Blue said.
"But wouldn't the challenge be fun?" Leah interrupted.
"I'd be stuck trying to hopelessly beat them with a Pokemon they'd just run over." Blue replied.
"Why would Charmander be run over?" Leah asked, which both Oak and Blue ignored.
"Oh well, same old Blue." Oak commented while Blue put down Charmander.

Blue then noticed another Pokemon, this time a Squirtle, which looked like a blue turtle. "Squirtle-squirt!" The Squirtle said as Blue stared at him.
"Ah yes, Squirtle! It's very easy to raise!" Oak said as he saw Blue noticing Squirtle

Blue knew that Squirtle was a Water type, so it would beat Rock-types like the ones the first gym leader would have like nothing. Blue decided this was to be his Pokemon.

"Gramps, I'll take Squirtle!" He said to his grandpa.
"Well, ok then!" He said. "Would you like to give it a nickname?"
"Well, I don't know..probably. But I'll think of one later." Blue replied.
"Ah well. It's your turn now, Leah. Pick any one of these two." He said to Leah.
"Well, ok then." She replied.

She went to the table. The only Pokemon left were Charmander and a third pokemon, Bulbasaur.

But Leah noticed Charmander first. To her, it was appealing that it uses fire, as to her it is very powerful.

The thing is, she doesn't know the difference between types. She just say one Pokemon would be strong if she saw it battle or if its look is intimidating.

So Leah picked up the Charmander. To her, it didn't look intimidating. It just looked...cute.

"I wonder about this one..." She said.

Just then, the Charmander sneezed, which sent a puff of flame right in her face, setting her hair on fire.

Leah didn't notice that she was on fire, until Blue pointed it out.

"Uh, Leah? Your hair's on fire." He said.
"What are you..." She said, stopping mid-sentence as she noticed a hot feeling behind her head. Soon, she could smell smoke. Leah began to panic. She dropped Charmander, causing it to cry.
"Oh dear, this is bad!" Oak said. He quickly ran and picked up a fire extinguisher. He ran back to Leah.
"Stand back, Blue! Here goes!" He said as he began spraying the fire extinguisher at Leah.
"Ack!" She screamed. Things were not going well.

Soon, the fire on her hair was out.

"Whew, that was close." Oak commented.

But Leah was only focused on her hair. A good amount of it was gone.

"Oh no! My hair!" She screamed. It took her a great deal to make it that long and beautiful, and know it was gone, thanks to a sneezing Pokemon.

"Prof. Oak, I don't think I would like a Pokemon that could set me on fire!" She scarily said to Oak. She put back the still crying Charmander on the table and backed away.
"Then I guess this last Pokemon will do for you then." Oak said as he picked up the last Pokemon, Bulbasaur.

Leah stared at Bulbasaur. It was the weirdest of the three, and it had an onion-like bulb on it's back.

Blue meanwhile, was worried. "Great. She I thought she would go for the Charmander. Now she has a Pokemon with a type advantage over mine." He thought.

"Saur! Bulbasaur!" The Bulbasaur said to Leah. It then began to extend one of its vines to her.
"Oh look! Bulbasaur wants to shake hands with you!" Oak said as he saw this.
"Are these...tentacles?" She asked.
"Oh no, those are vines." Oak replied.

"Anyways, Bulbasaur is a solid choice! It's one worth raising!" Oak said to Leah.
"Then I'll go with this one then!" Leah replied. "I think I'll name you....hmmmmmmmmm, what about Bulba? No wait, that's stupid. Uhhh..."
"What about Saur? Short and sweet!" Oak interrupted.
"Sure!" Leah replied as she picked up Bulbasaur.

"Well, hello there, Saur! You and I are gonna be together now!" Leah said to her new Pokemon while hugging it. Bulbasaur happily replied to her "Bulba! Bulbasaur!".
"And well, that's that. You should get going now. You have a long way to go."
"Sure then, Prof. Oak!" Leah replied. She began to run towards the exit.

But Blue wanted to test out his new Pokemon.

"Hey Leah! Wait up!" He shouted at Leah, who stopped just as she was about to open the door.
"Yes? What is it?" She replied.
"Let's test out our Pokemon and see who's stronger! I'll take you on!" Blue said. He already sent out Squirtle to fight. "Squirtle-squirt!" It said.
"Uh...I really don't know how to battle yet." She replied.

The sentence she just said made Blue want to bang his head on a wall. Seriously, a Pokemon Trainer who doesn't know how to fight?

But Blue would let that pass. After all, she was just new to this kind of stuff, unlike Blue, who had read about it a lot thanks to his grandpa's many books on it.

"Oh, for Pete's sake. So pushy as always. Leah, you've never battled before, have you?" Oak said to Leah.
"Nope." She replied.
"Ah well. A Pokemon battle is when trainers pit their Pokemon against each other. The first one to have their opponent's Pokemon faint or be unable to battle wins. Inflicting damage against your opponent is the key to victory. Try battling for yourself to see!" Oak said to her.
"Oh, I see." Leah replied.

"Ermm, how do I make my Pokemon attack?" She asked. Again, this was a wallbanger for Blue.
"I can't believe this." Blue moaned.
"Just make your Pokemon attack by calling out a command! Like 'Tackle' or something" Oak said to Leah.
"Okay. Umm, Saur, tackle Squirtle!" she said.
"Bulbasaur!" Saur replied. He began moving really fast and rammed Squirtle, catching it by surprise.
"Well, at least you did something!" Blue commented.

"Squirtle, use Tackle too!" Blue commanded. Squirtle obeyed and rammed Bulbasaur in revenge.
"Saur, use Tackle again!" Leah retorted. Saur also obeyed and rammed Squirtle again.

The fight went on and on, with nothing but the Tackle attack. Since the Pokemon were young anyway, they wouldn't have much attacks.

"Squirtle, just keep holding on!" Blue said to Squirtle, who was getting tired from continuosly ramming Saur all over and over again.
"Saur, you too!" Leah said to Saur. The fight went on and on and on until Blue came up with an idea.
"Squirtle, dodge Saur's next move!" Blue commanded. Almost immediately, Saur began charging at Squirtle, which Squirtle managed to dodge.
"Now, tackle Saur while it's not looking!" Blue commanded again. Squirtle obeyed and rammed Saur hard. Saur was in a lot of pain.
"Saur, you do it! I know you can!" Leah said to Saur, trying to encourage it to win. However, Saur was unable to take the pain, and Saur unfortunately fell on the ground, too exhausted to battle. "S-saurrrr." It moaned.
"No!" Leah cried. She didn't want to lose. But she knew that Saur couldn't take anymore. All she could do was pick Saur up and hug it to let Saur know she cares.

"You did your best." She said.
"Well, looks like a beat ya! Guess I'm just that good." Blue said to Leah.

"Oh well, time ta go. Smell ya guys later!" Blue said to both Leah and Oak.

Oak could only comfort the two after Blue left.

"Losing is part of the experience, Leah. Back when I was in your shoes, I lost a lot in battling since I wasn't good enough. So I trained a lot and I managed to start winning! While I don't battle much anymore, as I prefer to study Pokemon nowadays, I assure you that even losses can teach you. It could teach you how to deal with a move or something!" Oak said, trying to cheer Leah up.
"Really? I should try that, then," She replied.
"Yes, yes you should. Oh, and by the way, When you lose in a proper match, you are supposed to pay the winner prize money. So when you lose, always have a bag of money in hand!" Oak said to Leah.
"I'll remember that. Anyways, I have to go now. I'll let Saur rest for a while then we'll go." Leah replied.
"Goodbye then. Good luck to you both, and to Blue." Oak replied back.
"Bye!"

Leah ran out of the lab. She was ready to leave. Staring at the sky, she was full with hopes of becoming a great trainer.

"I know I'll be a great trainer like my dad someday! I know I will!"

I like the name Leah, I'm assuming that's a play on the name Leaf, right?

My biggest problem with this fic is that in parts it seems to switch from past tense to present tense and back again. Pick one and stick with it, my advice would be to pick past tense and stick with it, but I've seen good stuff in present tense, so whatever works for you.

I like the extra explanations and the differences between this and the games, it does make it seem more lifelike but I have a couple of issues too.

I couldn't help but think Leah just didn't seem to care that her dad was dead "Too bad he's dead" just seems a bit callous, surely she'd show some sort of emotion? I'd have said something along the lines of '"Yeah," replied Leah, "Thanks" Remembering her late father always made Leah a little emotion, but it was nice to remember what a great man he was now and again.'

The tentacles bit was a bit strange, I didn't really think that was necessary. Smut for the sake of smut? I don't like it. Reminded me of Super Effective though, which is a good thing, but I don't think that really had a place here. Does Blue actually want to fuck Leah? It sounds like it. (Excuse my french)

The battle was fine and I'm guessing that's something that'll improve with experience anyway (both yours and Leah's!) From the way things are panning out, I'm really hoping that you're gonna wildly veer off from the storyline of the main series games, but who knows. Do you already know what's going to happen in this story? I think in the best stories, the writer knows in advance how it's going to end.

Thanks for the opinion. :)

About the tentacle part, I did it for humor, but it seems you didn't find it funny.

Also, I get stressed out when planning things in advance, and I prefer to know what people think of a chapter before writing another one, so I can learn and improve on it, rather than instantly bringing everything out untested.

Anyways, thanks again, I'll be making the next chapter as soon as I can.

No one else posted, so here's Ch. 2! :smokin:

I also removed the "tentacle" joke from Ch. 1.

Chapter 2: Off to Viridian City!

That last sentence got Leaf thinking...how did her father die? All she knew was that he died when she was very young, and she couldn't possibly remember him. Everytime she asks her mom why he died, she would start crying and begin to moan "It's too horrible!" repeatedly. She never knew exactly what happened to her dad. Mom would just tell her "he was a great trainer in his prime.". Nothing else.

But Leah decided that that wouldn't matter right now. Carrying Saur in her arms, she began to leave. But then, someone interrupted.

"Leah! Wait! You forgot something!" The voice said.
"What?" She replied, turning around to see that Prof. Oak was running at her, clutching a Pokeball in his hands.
"You forgot Saur's pokeball, Leah!"
"Oh? Sorry."
"Always remember your stuff, Leah. It seems I'm not the only one here who's forgetful. Anyways, you should keep a Pokeball at all times! It's useful for storing your Pokemon should they be either too large, too exhausted, or other stuff like those, or maybe just to be able to travel easier. Anyways, take this." Oak said, holding out the Pokeball to Leah.
"Ok, I'll remember that." She replied, taking the Pokeball.
"Anyways, time to go, Leah! You got a long road ahead of you."
"Yeah, sure. Oh, does Blue have a Pokeball for Squirtle?"
"Ahh...oh no! I forgot his, too! Darn. Leah, go ahead, I have to chase Blue and give him his pokeball!"
"Maybe I could just give it to him?"
"Ah, ok then."

So Oak headed back to his lab, and soon enough, he came back, holding yet another Pokeball in his hands.

"Now, Leah. Give this to Blue, okay?" He said.
"Sure!" Leah replied, taking the Pokeball from Oak's hands and putting it in her bag.

"I'll be leaving now, okay?" Leah said to Oak.
"Sure. Goodbye, and again, good luck!" He replied.

And so Leah left the place, headed for Blue's house.

"Oh wait, I forgot to place Saur in his pokeball!" She worryingly said, only realizing until now that she was still carrying Saur. She then took out the Pokeball, but then...

"Oh come on! How the hell do I open this?" She said. She tried ripping it open, but she was afraid of breaking it.
"Open, open, come on! Do I have to say a password?" She frustratingly said.
"Ah well, maybe I can ask at Blue's house."

Soon enough, she arrived at his house. It seemed no different from her home. Same old door, same old windows, same old roof. Located in a suburban area, everything around the house were either other houses or lots of grass.

She knocked on the door, waiting for a response. Soon enough, someone unlocked and opened the door. Out came a woman with a green dress and a green headband.

"Well, if it ain't Leah! What bring ya here?" She said.
"Uh, hi, Daisy. Is Blue here?" Leah replied.
"Nope, not yet! I haven't seen him since he left for old man Oak." Daisy replied back.
"Ah well then, can you give him this?" Leah said, holding out the Pokeball that was given to her.
"Oh sure! I'll give it to him!" Daisy replied back while taking the Pokeball.
"Thanks, oh, and by the way, how do I open a Pokeball?" Leah asked, holding out her own Pokeball for Saur.
"Oh, that's easy! You just press down on the white portion of the ball, and you can open it already! Then you can store your Pokemon like the Bulbasaur in your arms easily!" Daisy replied.
"Thanks for the tip!" Leah gleefully said. "I'll be going now, okay?"
"Sure, and oh, by the way..." Daisy said, before she went back inside the house. She soon returned with a map in her hand.
"Take this, Leah. It's a map of Kanto! With this, you won't be ever getting lost!" She said as she tossed the map to Leah, who managed to catch it.
"Thanks! This'll prove useful!"

And so Leah left again, now ready to begin on her journey to become a great trainer. But this time, she didn't forget to place Saur in his Pokeball.

"Saur, I'll put you in my Pokeball so you could rest more, okay?" She said to Saur.
"B-bulbasaur..." Saur replied, still tired from the fight with Blue and his Squirtle. Leah saw this as a yes and opened the Pokeball. When she opened it, a red beam came out and made contact with Saur, who turned into a red beam, too.
"Wow, so that's how a pokeball works! Cool!" She said.

Now that Saur can rest without needing to be caried by Leah, she began to run, headed for Route 1, where she had been to earlier.

"This is gonna be a great day!"

---------------------------------

Leah finally reached Route 1, which was basically a long, zigzagging dirt road with lots of tall grass surrounding it, along with some ledges along the way.

She had barely even walked part of the route when she was blocked by a tall ledge Leah couldn't possibly climb. Luckily, to her left, there was another way she could pass, and she decided to go that way.

The problem was that it was in tall grass, which reminded Leah of what Oak said before:

"Wild Pokemon live in tall grass!"

She was worried she might agitate a Pokemon, but it was the only way nontheless.

"Oh man, why can't I just take a car and drive it by the other road leading to Viridian City?" She complained.

She tried to get close to it, but she was afraid.

"I hope nothing attacks me!" She cried, covering her eyes and jumping into the grass.

Nothing happened.

Leah then opened her eyes, checking if nothing was headed for her. Gladly for her, she didn't find anything.

"Well...I guess that wasn't so hard." She said. Now that she was confident in walking in tall grass, she took a step forward. She then felt something on her left foot. It seemed she stepped over something soft.

"Huh? What's this I'm stepping on?" She asked to herself. So she lifted her foot from the ground to see what did she step on.

When she began to get down, a Pokemon came out of the grass, slashing through her face and giving her a large, clean cut.

"OWWWWWWW! THAT HURTS!" She screamed. The pain was like nothing she had ever felt before. She fell on her back from the pain, helpless against her attacker.

Then, a large, purple skinned rodent-like Pokemon jumped on her chest. It appeared to be very angry at Leah for reasons she couldn't tell.

"Rattata! Ratarata!" The pokemon growled. Leah was very scared at the Pokemon.

"Please don't attack me!" She cried. It fell on deaf ears as Rattata begin to violently bite at Leah's face and clothes.

"AHH! HELP! PLEASE! IT HURTS!" She screamed. From all her writhing, she couldn't reach for Saur's pokeball.

But then...

"Sandy, attack that Rattata!" A voice exclaimed. Leah heard the voice, and she began to wonder whoever was that. But then, just as she tried to look for the origin of the voice, another Pokemon rammed the one on top of Leah's chest, making it fly away into a less grassy part of Route 1.

Leah, still in pain from the attack, tried to get up, but then, someone held out his hand for her.

"Need some help?" the person asked. He appeared to have slicked back hair, a grey shirt, jeans and a large apron.
"Y-yeah." Leah replied, still hurting from the pain. The man gladly helped her up.
"I'll take care of that Rattata. Sit here." The man said, pointing to a spot with a rock that Leah could sit upon.
"Sure." She said. Limping from pain, she slowly made it to the rock, and sat down on it. The man, meanwhile was busy fighting the pokemon that attacked her earlier.

"Sandy, use Fury Swipes!" The man shouted at his pokemon, which appeared to be a sand-colored hybrid of a hedgehog and a porcupine. The pokemon began to slash the Rattata at a very fast speed. causing it a lot of pain.
"Now, use Crush Claw!" The man shouted to his pokemon again. This time, the pokemon did one powerful, decisive slash to the face of the Rattata.

The sheer strength of the attack sent the Rattata scurrying, and it fled from the battlefield.

"Sandy, return!" The man said. With that, the pokemon returned to its pokeball. Then, the man began to walk at Leah.

"Don't worry, the Rattata's gone." The man said.
"It's called 'Rattata'?" Leah asked.
"Yup. Anyways, let me introduce myself. My name is Casey, and I work in a Poke Mart!"
"What's that?"
"It's part of a convinient chain selling all sorts of items. Anyways, what's your name?"
"I'm Leah."
"Really? That's a nice name. Anyways, I'll be headed on my way now. I was just here training so I can win an upcoming battling tourney in Viridian City. Oh, and if you want, you can visit our Poke Mart at Viridian City. I know! I'll give you a sample of our products! Here!" Casey said, giving Leah something which looked like a spray bottle.
"Umm, thanks? What's this?" Leah asked.
"It's a potion. It heals minor injuries on a Pokemon, like bruises or cuts. It's useful if you need to battle and there's no Pokemon Center nearby!"
"What's a Pokemon Center?"
"It's a place where trainers can discuss with other trainers and where Pokemon can rest! They also double as an inn, as people could stay there overnight, should they be travelling. Just like you, you come from Pallet Town, you're....wait, you are a trainer, right?"
"Yup"
"Ah. Anyways, like I said, Pokemon Centers are useful if you're travelling! Remember that."
"I will."
"Mmmkay. Anyways, be going now! Bye!"
"Bye!"

And so Casey left. He forgot that Leah still had a lot of scratches all over her neck, face, and part of her shirt. It was only then that Leah realized this, and even then, Casey had left already. The pain still lingered, but it wasn't that painful as before.

"Man, that Rattata...or whatever it's called, sure packs a punch. Ow." She said.

She began heading on her way. She should be there soon enough.

Leah could only hope that she won't get attacked again.

By the way, cookie for anyone who could guess Casey's pokemon.

The main problem with this fic at the moment is that Leah is too stupid. She knows nothing and that is frustrating for someone who is very knowledgeable about the Pokemon world, as 99% of your readership will be on a site like this, you don't really need to explain everything.

Hopefully she will pick things up without us having to sit through her learning every god damned thing. Other than that the story is good, I like that the Pokemon actually attacked her.

Oh, and Casey's Pokemon is Sandslash. I'm guessing you wouldn't say a Sandshrew had anything to do with a porcupine really.

Thanks again for te opinion.

And Sandslash is correct. Here's your cookie.

I agree with GM's opinion, although I don't think it is entirely bad to explain so much. It's good in a way to not assume your readers are pokemon experts, but perhaps find a good balance.

Anyways, this is a great start and I'll be excited to see how this goes. Keep it up!

No replies. T_T

Even then, I've been reviewed by the two people whom fanfics I regularly read. ^_^ I feel happy.

Anyways, here's Chapter 3.

Chapter 3: The Eternally Green Paradise

Leah made it through the rest of the route without getting attacked again. She knew she was near to Viridian City by now, and she continued to walk. The bites on her continued to be painful, however. Luckily, the cut on her face stopped bleeding.

A few minutes passed, and eventually Leah saw a skyline in the distance. That could only mean one thing.

"I'm here!" Leah excitedly said. With her hopes raised, she began running for the rest of the route. Soon enough, she had arrived in the city. It was gigantic to Leah. Lots of buildings surrounded the place. All of them were painted in green. The streets were beautifully decorated with trees around it, and elegant street lights also painted in green complimented it.

"I feel so small here." Leah said. Viridian was unlike the spacy land that Pallet had.

But even then, she had business to do. Her mom told her to challenge the Gym Leaders, a bunch of people who test your skills and give badges upon defeating them.

But Viridian was easy to get lost. Leah tried to check the map Daisy had given her, but unfortunately, the map only showed the immediate area of the Kanto region. She couldn't see the inside of Viridian City.

"Oh come on! How the hell will I ever find the Gym?" She cried. But just then, she had an idea.

"Maybe...hmm...I know! I'll ask around!" She said. She immediately running around asking for directions to the gym. But unfortunately for her, everyone replied by saying stuff like "Not now" or "I'm busy, ask me later".

But Leah didn't give up. She continued to ask around, and finally, she found one person who replied to her.

"Excuse me, sir. Where is the Viridian gym?" She asked.
"The gym, you ask? That's easy. You see that first intersection to your left, right?" The man replied.
"Yup!"
"Well, you should go there, then turn right. Just keep on going, eventually you'll find a park. The gym is through it. It's the nearest way."
"Thanks!"

And so Leah left the man. She followed the man's directions, and eventually she arrived at a park, just like what the man told her.

As she walked through the park, she noticed a building painted in white along with a red roof and a sign on it that said "Pokemon Center".

"This must be the Pokemon Center that Casey told me about." She said.
"Hmm...I'll just go there lat...wait, is Saur rested?" She asked. She sent out Saur.

Saur appeared in a flash of light, and his Pokeball dropped down to the ground.

"Saur?" The pokemon asked. He appeared to be in good condition now.
"Are you okay now?" Leah asked to her pokemon.
"Saur! Bulbasaur!" Saur replied.
"Well, from the looks of it, you seem to be okay now! Just checking." Leah said to her pokemon. She picked up the pokeball and called Saur back.

"Well, I'm not going to the Pokemon Center, at least, not yet." She said.

Leah then continued to walk through the park. There were lots of open air, which reminded Leah of the greenery all over Pallet Town.

Soon, she reached a rather long stairway. Unfazed, she started climbing up the stairs.

Upon her arrival at the top, however, someone was blocking the way.

"Oh...my hed hurts," An old man said, flat on his back, blocking the path.
"Grandpa, get outta there! I've told you a mi-" His granddaughter said.
"N-no! Noone gits past here!" The old man interrupted, seemingly drunk.
"Oh come on!" She said. She tried stepping over him, but the old man put his leg in the way.
"No on g-ets past here!" The old man said again, not letting his grandkid pass.
"Excuse me, what's going on here?" Leah said, butting in.
"My drunkard of a grandpa got dizzy and fell on his back, and now he won't let anyone get through here!"
"I are not a drunkad!" The old man replied, which got ignored
"And I was just headed for the gym...oh well, I'll just wait it out until you guys can sort it out." Leah said. With that, she left.

"Sheesh. I got beaten up by a Rattata, got lost in Viridian, and now some old jerk is blocking the way to the gym!" She mumbled. She felt like she traveled all the way to Viridian City for nothing.

"Oh well, maybe I'll check that "Poke Mart" Casey told me about." Leah said. And with that, she left the park.

She had barely gotten far from the park when she saw a building that looked exactly like the Pokemon Center that Leah saw earlier, but instead, the roof was colored blue, and the sign said "Poke Mart" instead.

"Hey, maybe that's the Poke Mart Casey told me about!" She said. She began walking towards the Poke Mart.

"Hopefully I'll find something useful there."

Eventually, she arrived at the Poke Mart. The doors opened automatically when Leah got near to it.

"Neat! Sliding doors!"

Leah then entered the Poke Mart. As she stepped in, she noticed the many shelves all over the place. They were all carrying Pokemon-related stuff. Pokeballs, food, and other stuff like those were being sold.

Then, someone called her out.

"Hey Leah! Glad you made it here! Anything new?" A man said. Leah immediately recognized his face.
"Oh hi, Casey. Nothing's new." Leah replied.
"What about those bite marks and that cut?"
"I can live with it."
"Ah well, suit yourself then. Anyways, do you know Professor Oak?"
"Of course! We've known each other for a very long time!"
"Really? No way! He's one of the most famous Pokemon professors in the entire world, and you get to be friends with him!? No way!"

Leah couldn't make up a response for that last sentence.

"Anyways, I have this parcel, and it says on it to deliver to Prof. Oak. How it got here I really don't know. All I know is that I have to give it to him, but I can't just leave my job! Can you take it to him?" Casey said, handing out the parcel.
"Sure, why not?" Leah said as she took the parcel.
"Thanks." Casey said.

And so Leah left the Poke Mart, headed for Pallet Town. It would be worthwhile anyway, since the old man is still drunk on top of the stairs at the park. She could wait it out.

"Ah well, here we go again." She said.

Ahahaha, I hate that grumpy, old prick. The first time I played through Red version I was certain that there was a way to walk around him and yet as hard as I tried, there appeared not to be.

Oh, and don't worry about not having many replies in the early days, that's pretty standard, I had the same problem, it's sure to pick up if you stick at it and keep the standards of the story up.

Chapter 4 coming soon.

Arg, I'm having trouble writing Chapter 4. Anyways, while I'm still making it, let me give it a bump.

Sorry for the lack of activity. Anyways, Chapter 4 is here!

Chapter 4: Returning to Pallet Town!

And so Leah began on her trip back to Pallet Town. After some time, she eventually reached Route 1.

"And here I am! I hope that Rattata won't attack me again." Leah said. She continued her walk home, noticing that the ledges that blocked her way earlier seemed to be conviently placed so that she could jump over them and avoid the tall grass.

Unfortunately for Leah, the last part of the route had tall grass sprawling around it, blocking the way back to Pallet Town.

But she had to get the parcel to Prof. Oak. She decided to go through the grass anyways.

Halfway through the last patch of tall grass, Leah heard a rumble in the grass.

"What's that?" She asked to herself. Little did she know that the same Rattata that attacked Leah earlier was now sneaking up on her, still planning on attacking her.

And when Leah turned around, searching for the source of the noise, the Rattata jumped at Leah's shoulder and bit it hard.

"OWWWW!" Leah screamed. She glanced at her shoulder and saw the Rattata biting her shoulder, and not letting go.

"Why you..." Leah growled. She was now angry at Rattata for getting in her way and giving her an injury again. She grabbed the Rattata's body and tried to throw it away, but the Rattata wouldn't let go.

"Owwwww....." She began to moan. The Rattata's bite continued to get deeper. Trying to get the Rattata off, Leah managed to get Saur's Pokeball from her bag with her spare arm. She began hitting the Rattata with it. The Rattata flinched from getting hit, and Leah managed to throw it off.

Leah glanced at her shoulder again. It was bleeding profusely, but she managed to withstand the pain, knowing that she was being attacked. Leah then threw Saur's Pokeball and called him out.

"Saur! Come out!" She said. As the pokeball hit the floor, there was a bright flash, and from there, Saur appeared.

"Bulba-bulbasaur!" Saur said. But from out of nowhere, Rattata came back and rammed Saur at a very high speed.
"B-bulba!" Saur reacted as he was blown away from the attack.
"S-Saur! Attack that Rattata with a tackle!" Leah said to Saur. Saur managed to get on his feet and he began to run towards Rattata. He successfully hit Rattata.
"Rata!" The Rattata cried. It wasn't giving up without a fight, however. Recovering from Saur's attack, the Rattata began to run quickly towards Saur.
"Saur! Look out!" Leah said. Saur, upon hearing Leah, saw the Rattata running towards him. But before the Rattata managed to hit Saur, Saur dodged.
"Now! Tackle back at it!" She said. Saur obeyed, and before the Rattata could react, Saur rammed the Rattata head-on. The Rattata couldn't take anymore, and it fled.
"Bulba! Bulbabulba!" Saur said. He wouldn't let the Rattata get away.
"No, Saur! We don't need to attack it anymore. Let it be." Leah said to Saur.
"Saur? B-bulbabulba!" Saur replied.
"Don't worry. If it comes back, you can take him down once and for all. Okay?" Leah said.
"Saur! Bulbasaur!" Saur said, understanding what Leah meant.
"Okay then. Return!" Leah said, picking up Saur's pokeball and returning him.

And with the the danger of the Rattata gone, the pain in her shoulder returned, and she dropped on her knees, trying to withstand the pain.

"Owwww....it hurts!" She cried. She tried to get back up on her feet, but the pain wouldnt't let her.

But she had to get back to Pallet Town, as she had to deliver the parcel.

After several tries, Leah managed to get up on her feet, and she began walking towards Pallet Town again, while clutching her shoulder to prevent it from bleeding any longer.

Eventually, she reached Pallet Town. It kind of comforted her that she was in her hometown again, and the pain on her shoulder seemed to ease.

"At least I'm back. Oh well, gotta get to Proffesor Oak." She said. She began walking towards Oak's lab.

As she walked by, she began seeing many of the familiar sights of Pallet Town. The shops, the grass, and other stuff were there. She eventually reached the market, where Leah and her mom would often go to buy their groceries.

That reminded Leah: Is her mom here? She didn't want to freak her mom out with all of her wounds, but the market was the only route Leah knew that would lead straight to Oak's lab.

Unfortunately for her, her mom was there. A few shops away, her mom saw her.

"Leah! I miss you! What are you doing here! Come over here!" She said. Leah didn't want to show herself, but she feared that she might offend her mom for not responding. She decided to go over to her mom, anyway. Maybe she had some bandages.
"Hi, mom." Leah said as she walked towards her mom.
"How's my little...oh my! What happened to you!? And why are you covering your shoulder?" Mom said, pointing out the bite marks and the cut on her face.
"This? Oh, it's..."
"Take your hand off your shoulder!" Mom interrupted.
"Alright, alright!" Leah replied. Taking her hand off, she revealed the wound she had gotten earlier. It was still bleeding.
"Oh my goodness! What evil, brutal bastard would do such a thing to you?" Mom replied in shock.
"A Rattata?" Leah said. This would totally surprise her mom.
"Really? No way! Why would a Pokemon do such a thing to you?" Mom replied.
"I really don't..." Leah said, stopping mid-sentence. It was then that she realized...immediately after Leah stepped on some mysterious, soft ground, the Rattata attacked. Maybe she stepped on the Rattata?
"You what?" Her mom asked.
"Nothing." She replied.
"Oh well, come with me. I'll get you some bandages." She said.
"But I have to bring something to Proffes..."
"Do that later." Mom interrupted.

Minutes passed, and the two eventually made it back home.

"Welcome back home, Leah! Anyways, stay here. I'll get some bandages, then you can leave." Her mom said.
"Sure then." Leah replied.

She sat on a couch in the middle of the room. She noticed a small table with a lamp on it, and a picture along with it. The picture appeared to be her dad, dressed in a red hat, a red sleeveless jacket with a black undershirt, and blue pants. He was in an arena, clutching a trophy in his hand.

"I'm back!" Her mom interrupted. "Now stand still, I'm gonna put these on you."

Guess who Leah's dad is. ;)

Interesting. I've got to say though, I really really hate Poke speak.

'Bulbasaur said "Bulbabulba!"'

I hate this. It didn't SAY anything, it just made some sort of weird noise, there's no need to specifically say what that noise is. Is this based on the anime or on the games? I'm assuming it's based on the games, in which case, I hope you realise that pokespeak was invented by the anime and so there is no need to include it in a gameverse fic? Also, if Leah's father is Red, I really, really, hope you've thought this through.

Is her rival Blue Jnr or something? Is Oak his great grandfather then or is the new Oak Blue Snr? I'm sorry but that's a little weak, that Red and Blue's children should be having the exact same adventure that Red and Blue themselves seemed to have. Even to the extent that a guy working in a PokeMart approached Leah on Route 1. This is the kind of thing that you need to have planned before starting and evidently you did not.

Anyway, other than that small point, I did enjoy this chapter - I like the idea of the violent Rattata which might actually just be misunderstood? I'm hoping we'll see it again and I reckon that it'll be Leah's first capture! I'm hoping all of Leah's Pokemon get as much of a storyline and distinct personality as Bulbasaur and Rattata seem to have - that's a real strength of yours! Keep it up and my only advice is think thoroughly through where you're going with everything.

Good work, I'll be reading.

About that, I never really thought about their voice when I made this fic.

And anyways, can you understand what an animal in real life is saying? Poke-speak or cries, I still have to explain what they're trying to say.

Also, if Leah's father is Red, I really, really, hope you've thought this through.

I only intend this as backstory; not a main part of the plot.

Anyways, thanks for the review! I promise I'll try to make the fic better.

Ah, you misunderstand me, I didn't mean you shouldn't explain what they're trying to say - that's pretty important, particularly if you want to keep up with their personalities, like you have done so far. I was just saying I don't like quoted pokespeech, it seems a little silly imo. My opinion isn't law though, so if you think it adds something to your fic, by all means, keep it.

Sure thing, GM.

Also, I'm starting to feel a bit weird for having a female protagonist. At night, weird thoughts about Leah come to my mind.

Anyways, Chapter 5 is here.

Chapter 5: The Pokedex!

Time passed as Leah's mom put on the bandages on Leah's wounds. Soon enough, she was finished.

"There, done. You can go now, sweetie!" Leah's mom said.
"Sure!" Leah replied. Getting up on her feet, she noticed that the sun was beginning to set.
"Remember, Leah, you said you have something to deliver to Prof. Oak! Go on now!" Her mom said.
"Ah...okay then!" Leah replied.

And so she set off for Prof. Oak's lab. Unlike in Viridian, she easily navigated through the town, which rather made Leah feel at home again.

Soon enough, she arrived in Oak's lab. As she entered the lab, she immediately saw Prof. Oak on the far end of the lab. She began walking towards Oak, who then saw her.

"Oh, Leah! How's Saur?" Oak asked. Leah immediately replied by sending out Saur from his ball.
"Buuuuuulbaaasaur!" Saur happily said as he came out.
"Well, it seems to be growing more attached to you!" Oak said.
"Thanks! Oh, and b..." Leah replied.
"You must be talented as a Pokemon Trainer!" Oak interrupted.
"Yeah yeah yeah. Anyways, I have something to gi..." Leah frustratingly replied.
"What's that? You have something for me?" Oak interrupted, again.
"Would you stop interrupting me! Anyways, take this!" Leah angrily shouted, frustrated about how Oak keeps on interrupting her, while giving him the parcel.
"Ah! It's the custom Pokeball!" Oak said as he took the parcel and gave it a quick glance.
"The wha..."
"I had it on an order! Thank you!" Oak interrupted again. Before Leah could respond, someone from the other side of the lab shouted at them.
"Gramps!" The voice said. Turning around, Leah saw that Blue was there, running towards Oak.
"I almost forgot! What did you call me for?" Blue asked. Oak stopped for a moment to think.
"Oh, right! I have a request for you two!" Oak said. He immediately walked towards a table which had two weird devices of a red color.
"On this table there is my invention, the Pokedex!"
"The Poke what?" Leah and Blue asked in unison.
"It automatically records data on Pokemon you've seen or caught." Oak said, ignoring Leah and Blue's question.
"But how is tha..." Leah asked.
"It's a high-tech encyclopedia!" Oak interrupted yet again.
"Leah, Blue, take these with you!" Oak said as he took the Pokedexes and gave it to the two.
"You can't get detailed data of Pokemon by just by seeing them. You must catch them to get complete data!" OAk said.
"But how do we..." Leah asked.
"So, here are some tools for capturing wild Pokemon!" Oak interrupted, which continued to irritate Leah. Oak took two bags on a nearby table and gave it to the two.
"When a wild Pokemon appears, it's fair game. Just throw a Pokeball at it and try to catch it!"
"So I h..." Leah asked.
"This won't always work, however. A healthy pokemon can escape! You have to be lucky!"
"I'll re..." Leah and Blue said in unison.
"To make a complete guide of all the Pokemon in the world...that was my dream!"
"Then why don't you do it yours..." Blue said.
"However, I'm too old. I can't get the job done. So, I want you to fulfill my dream for me!" Oak interrupted yet again.
"Are you implying that we are just your too..." Leah asked.
"Get moving, you two." Oak interrupted. "This is a great undertaking in Pokemon history!"
"Ah, sure thing Gramps. Leave it all to me!" Blue said. He then turned to Leah.
"Leah, I hate to say it, but you won't be necessary for this."
"What!? What do you mean!?" Leah angrily asked. She felt offended by what Blue said.
"I know! I'll borrow a map from my sis! I'll tell her not to lend you one, Leah! Hahaha!" Blue said. "Don't bother coming to my place after this!" Blue said. And with that, he left.
"What he doesn't know is that I already took the town map. Hehehe..." Leah grinned, remembering the map Daisy gave to her.
"Well, Leah, time to get going. Or are you just staying here for tonight and leave tommorow?" Oak asked.
"I think I'll stay here for a while. Anyways, gotta go!" Leah replied as she began walking out of the lab.
"Bye, Leah!" Oak said.

As Leah stepped out of the lab, she saw that the sun was gone. It was dusk.

"Oh well, gotta get back home!" Leah said. She began running home, and got there within minutes. She knocked on the door as soon as she arrived. Her mom heard the knock and opened the door.

"Back so soon, Leah?" Her mom asked.
"Yup. I think I'll just stay here until tomorrow!" Leah replied.
"Whatever suits you, then. Anyways, it's time for dinner!" Mom said.

And so Leah went into the house and ate. She decided to get up early tomorrow, so she went to her room immediately after eating.

Putting her pajamas on, her mom visited her.

"Sleeping so soon, Leah?" Mom asked.
"Yup! I want to get up early tomorrow!" Leah replied.
"Well, I'm glad you want to start your journey as fast as possible. Anyways, good night!" Mom said. She gave Leah a kiss to the cheek.
"Good night to you too!" Leah replied just as her mom left. After that, she jumped into her bed.

"I can't wait for tomorrow!" She said.

I'm gettin worried that my chapters are getting too short. Is it?

Weird thoughts about Leah come to your mind? Do you mean- never mind.

Anyway, I quite liked this chapter, I definitely liked your characterisation of Oak - very funny! I did get that feeling off of Oak when I first started playing the games - bossing you and Blue about! That jerk!

Also, with regards to chapter length, it seemed fine. The guidelines I go by for chapter length are the following:

Make sure something substantial happens in the chapter, try to avoid chapters where it is just a conversation between two people - sometimes it's unavoidable, but try to avoid it.

I find that I get told my chapters are too short when they're less than 1000 words, so I use that as a minimum, my aim is usually between that and 1800. Anywhere between those two values seems fine, people seem willing to read chapters up to 1800, but don't push that too much, personally I try to keep them at the lower end of that range.

Of course, those guidelines are based on my writing style and everyone's writing style is different so you have to use guidelines that suit you. You might find that what I've said here work out quite well for you, but you might feel that you want to amend them slightly, it's up to you really - never be too rigid on yourself though! Even if you set yourself a rule, if you feel like you have a good reason for breaking it - do it!

Thnks, GM! I still wish more people would review this.

Anyways, I added a Table of Contents.

Chapter 6 coming soon!

Chapter 6 is here. Now revealing Mom's name, her appearance, Leah's dead father and how he died, and how Leah captures...well, I'll let you guess that one.

Chapter 6: Leah's First Capture

"I'm just going to buy the groceries, dear!" Leah's mom said.
"Sure thing then. You bringing Leah?" Leah's dad replied.
"Mmmhmm. See you!"

And so Mom left the house. Mom was dressed in a red jacket with a white stripe in the middle and red shorts. She was headed to the market, as she was going to buy the groceries.

"Mommy, where are we going?" A then five-year-old Leah asked.
"We're going to the market, sweetie! Do you want me to buy you a Rage Candy Bar?" Mom replied.
"Sure!"

As they were walking by, a man, who had brown, spiky hair and was dressed a black, long sleeved jacket and khaki pants called them out.

"Well if it ain't Cassie! How's stuff back home?" The man asked.
"Well, hi there, Green! Nothing much is new." Cassie replied.
"Ah, figures. Anyways, how's Leah?" Green asked, crouching down to look at Leah. Leah got shy and hid behind Cassie.
"She's fine. Say hello to Mr. Green, honey! Don't be shy!" Cassie said. Leah didn't reply, as she was too shy.
"Aww, don' be shy, Leah! Come on!" Green said, trying to reach out to Leah. Leah still didn't reply.
"Ah, never mind." Green said, standing up. "So, how's things with Red? Still flaunting 'round his fifth win in the Pokemon League?"
"Nope. He seems to be...quite focused on family, nowadays." Cassie replied.
"Aww, the great five-time champion of the Pokemon League, cuddling up with family! How sweet!" Green teased.
"Hey!" Cassie replied, while Green begins to laugh.
"Anyways, what about Blue?" Cassie asked.
"Ah, the lil' tyke keeps jumping 'round all day! Messing around with stuff, breaking glasses, dropping bookshelves, tripping...well, ya get the idea." Green replied.
"Well, he seems to be quite fiesty these days. Anyways, gotta go. Bye" Cassie replied as she began to walk away from Green.
"'Kay then. See ya if I see ya!" Green said. He too began to walk away.

Soon enough, Cassie and Leah reached the market. They began doing the groceries. Leah was amazed at the many products in the market. She was also repulsed by the smell, as a lot of fresh meat were being sold in the market.

After some time, they were done. Cassie was carrying a lot of baskets while Leah held smaller ones. They already paid for their stuff.

As they walked home, they noticed smoke in the distance. Curious, Cassie decided to head there. However, she seemed worried; the path they are currently walking in leads to their home. She began to worry about the possiblity of a fire.

Cassie began to run, while Leah was clutching her hand tightly, trying to catch up.

Then, as they got near to the source of the smoke, someone screamed.

"FIRE! FIRE! SOMEONE GET THE FIREFIGHTERS!" The person screamed. Cassie looked around and saw the area surrounded by fire. It was affecting everything. Cassie immediately ran towards her home, with Leah following her. She was worried that their house could have been affected.

So she arrived at their house...and just as she feared, their house was on fire.

"OH MY GOODNESS! RED!!! NOOOOOO!!" Cassie screamed. She was extremely shocked. Their house was on fire, and Red was nowhere to be found.

But then, a figure appeared in a window in the house's second floor. The figure immediately opened the window. From it, Red came out, already on fire.

"Ahhh....heeelllp..." Red moaned weakly.

"RED!! NO!!" Cassie screamed. Red struggled to get out of the window, but as he managed to get halfway out, he stopped moving, and his body fell down to the grass below.

"Mom, what's going on?" Leah asked, oblivious to what was happening to her surroundings. Cassie, who was horrified at what was happening to her husband, covered Leah's eyes.

-----------------

"Ughhh...mmmmm..." Leah said as she woke up. She opened her eyes.

"What...did I just dream?" She asked to herself. She got up and headed downstairs.

As she arrived downstairs, she saw that her mom was there already, preparing breakfast.

"Hi, sweetie! I made bacon! You want?" Cassie asked.
"Sure thing, mom!" Leah replied. She sat down near the dining table.
"Mom, can I ask you something?" Leah asked.
"Sure thing! What is it?" Cassie replied.
"How did Dad die?" Leah then asked. Cassie's smile disappeared.
"I...I...don't want to t-tell you." Cassie replied, almost immediately getting sad.
"Did he die in a fire or something?" Leah said. Upon hearing the word "fire", Cassie started to cry.
"I don't want to to tell you, okay?" She said as her tears began to flow.
"Why do you overreact? I'm just asking"
"I SAID I DON'T WANT TO TELL YOU, OKAY?" She said angrily, apparently still horrified about the events on that fateful day.
"Okay, okay!" Leah replied. She was getting irritated on how her mom won't tell her how her dad died.

That dream...was that what happened when Dad die? I certaintly don't remember that happening. All I knew is that one day, he stopped appearing. I never knew what happened to him. Leah thought.

After some time, Cassie finished cooking and served the food. Leah ate it quickly, without even talking to her mom, and went upstairs after that to take a bath. After doing so, she quickly put on her clothes and readied her stuff.

As she was putting stuff in her bag, Cassie appeared.

"Leah, just a reminder, but you have three months to finish your journey, okay? You have to go to school!" She said. Leah ignored her.
"Leah?" Cassie worryingly asked.
"Yeah, I get it." Leah said just as she finished putting stuff in her bag. Cassie tried to reply, but she chose not to.
"I gotta go now." Leah said. She picked up her bag and began to leave the room. As Leah got close to Cassie, she gave her a kiss to the cheek.
"Bye." Leah said.
"Bye." Cassie replied. As Leah left the house, Cassie began to feel guilty for shouting at her.
"S-sorry..." Cassie said softly. A tear fell from her eye.

Meanwhile, Leah had already made it far from her home. She was running.

"Man, I know that she saw Dad die in front of her eyes, and she's horrified about it, but why the hell does she have to break down everytime I ask? Sheesh." Leah complained.

As she ran, she reached Route 1. Ignoring the tall grass, she just ran through it.

But little did she know that somebody was watching her from atop a tree, planning an attack.

As Leah passed under the said tree, the attacker lunged at her.

"RATA!" Rattata screamed, still persistent on attacking Leah. When Leah heard this, she turned her head around, and saw the Rattata flying at her, before Rattata rammed her in the face. The impact managed to make her trip.

"Oww...you again?" She said as she tried to get back up on her feet.
"Rrra! Rattata!" The Rattata growled. It began to charge at her.
"Oh come on!" She said. She quickly pulled out Saur's pokeball from her bag and threw it at the Rattata. It hit, and Rattata flinched, while at the same time, Saur came out.

"Saur!" Saur said. Upon saying that, he immediately saw Rattata. He then began to growl.
"Saur, tackle that Rattata!" Leah said. Saur obeyed and tackled Rattata before he could recover from getting hit with the pokeball.
"Rata!" The Rattata said as he got hit. It still wasn't giving up, however, and it tackled back.
"Bulbasaurrrr!" Saur said as he got hit.

The fight went on and on, with Saur and the Rattata tackling back and forth. But the Rattata, who still wouldn't give up, decided to bite Saur in one of his legs.

"SAURR!" Saur screamed as the Rattata dug its teeth into his leg.
"Saur! No!" Leah said as Saur got bitten. It began to remind her of how the Rattata bit her in the shoulder yesterday.
"Bulba...bulbasaur!" Saur moaned in pain.
"Saur, don't give up!" Leah said, trying to encourage Saur. Saur continued to moan, until suddenly, a vine with what appeared to be a seed on its tip sprouted from the bulb on Saur's back.
"What the...Saur! What's happening!" Leah asked as the vine grew longer, which then began to quickly wrap around the Rattata. Then, the vine pierced into Rattata's body.
"Rata!" Rattata said as it flinched. Letting go of the bite, he dropped to the ground, but then the vine began to glow. Rattata began writhing in pain.
"Rata...rata...RATA!" The Rattata cried.
"Bulbaaasauuuurrr..." Bulbasaur moaned, apparently in relief.
"What's going on?" Leah asked. Saur continued to wrap the Rattata with the vine. After some time, Saur stopped and dropped the Rattata's body.
"Raaaa...." The Rattata moaned.
"Saur!" Saur cheeringly said, apparenly reinvigorated.
"Now what do I...aha!" Leah said. She had an idea. She took out a pokeball from her bag.
"If Prof. Oak says I should capture some Pokemon, then maybe I will!" Leah said. She threw the Pokeball at the Rattata, still laying around the ground. When it hit, the ball bounced and opened, and it shot out a beam of light at the Rattata and it dissappeared. The Pokeball then dropped to the ground, but then it began to bounce around violently.
"Did it work?" Leah asked. She was worried she wasn't doing it right.

The bouncing continued for some time, but eventually, it stopped, and it made a load "beep".

"Is it...over?" She asked to herself. She picked up the Pokeball.

"Hmm, it's not moving...Hey, maybe I did catch it!" She said to herself. Leah, happy, jumped into the air, holding out the Pokeball.

"I did it!"

About Mom's name being Cassie and how it sounds similar to Casey, the Poke Mart cashier, I just took one of the names you could pick for Leaf from Bulbapedia and made it into Mom's name...but then halfway into making the chapter I remembered Casey...but I got used to calling Mom as Cassie, so I stuck with it. :)

Oh, and guess what move Saur used.
