Hellog uys. This is my second fic, after one completely unnoticed one-shot about Glitch City. Instead of that, I decided to make a fic about the R/B(or FR/LG if you may) games. It's essentially a rewrite, but instead of the male character as the protagonist, I put the female character as the protagonist instead.
Also, there are several differences from the game, including but not limited to differences in dialogue, description of locations and etc. But I hope you won't mind.
And now with the table of contents!
Chapter 1: A New Day, A New Journey
Chapter 2: Off To Viridian City!
Chapter 3: The Eternally Green Paradise
Chapter 4: Returning to Pallet Town!
Chapter 5: The Pokedex!
Chapter 6: Leah's First Capture
Chapter 7: Fiddling With The Pokedex
Chapter 8: Teachy TV
Chapter 9: A Meeting With Blue
Chapter 10: A Challenger Appears!
Chapter 11: Similar Goals
Chapter 12: The Rock-hard Gym
Chapter 13: Prey and Predator
Chapter 14: Majestic Mt. Moon
Chapter 15: Blue yet Again
Chapter 16: The Challenge of Nugget Bridge
I hope you enjoy.
Chapter 1: A New Day, A New Journey
"Yes, yes, yes! Oh no, no, don't! Whew. I can...wait! How the hell did that happen!? That's impossible!" said a girl in her room as she was busy playing a video game.
"Oh well, guess I'll just finish it next time." She said. She then left her room and went down to the living room of her house.
"Well, if it isn't my little sunshine!" The girl's mom said with a squeal.
"Oh hi, mom."
"You've grown up a lot, Leah. 11 years old and now you're gonna be a Pokemon trainer just like your dad!"
"Yup. Too bad Dad's dead."
"Yeah. But anyways, it's time to go! Professor Oak is waiting for you next door!"
"Yes, mom. I'll be on my way!" Leah said. With her blue sleeveless shirt, her favorite hat and her red skirt, along with a bag, she was ready to start the day.
She left the house and took a stroll to Prof. Oak's lab, which is near a river leading out of Pallet Town, where she lived.
Pallet Town is quite the bustling place, as the downtown area is full of markets, shops and many more. Outside of that area, a beautiful suburban area thrives. Beutifully decorated with flowers of all kinds, the town is endless in its beauty.
Soon Leah finally arrived at Oak's lab, but he was nowhere to be found. She then asked one of his assistants where he was.
"Excuse me, mister. Where is Prof. Oak?" Leah asked.
"Well, hi there...um...your Leah, right? Prof. Oak told me about you." the assistant said.
"Yeah, but I'm asking about Prof. Oak."
"Oh yeah, that's right. Well, Leah, Prof. Oak is in Cinnabar Island by the lab out there. Apparently, he found some weird fossil at Mt. Moon while he was out studying out there. The fossil appeared to be incomplete, but Oak said he could try to find a more complete one the next time he heads out there."
"Wow. Anyways, thanks! I think I'll just roam around for a while." Leah replied.
So she headed out. Prof. Oak would take a while, so she decided to look around anyway.
It was then that she stumbled upon Blue, a friend of hers and the grandson of Prof. Oak. He was dressed in a indigo shirt and black pants...not much else.
"What, it's only Leah? Anyways, have you finished that "Gunslinger" game I let you borrow?" He asked.
"Nope, not yet. I'm stuck on that boss on Level 14." She replied.
"Get a game guide. It'll help. Anyways, I'm headed for the market, I'm gonna buy some soda while waiting for ol' Gramps. Smell ya later!" Blue said as he walked away.
"Yeah. Bye." She replied.
Blue left without a word, and Leah continued to roam around.
Time passed, and Leah eventually found herself in a part of Pallet Town that she hasn't been before. Lost, she began to unknowingly head to Route 1, a dirt road with lots of tall grass surrounding it that leads to the nearby Viridian City.
She had barely walked into the route when she heard a voice shout "Hey! Wait! Don't go out!".
Turning back to see who was shouting, she saw Prof. Oak running at her.
"It's unsafe, Leah! Wild Pokemon live in tall grass!" Oak said.
"Here? But it's just a dirt road with grass beside it and some trees ar...wait, this leads out of Pallet, right?" She asked.
"Yes. But the route contains Pokemon that may attack you. Pokemon have abilities that can harm you. Some are more harmful than others. Here, follow me. You do know that you're gonna get your new Pokemon, right?" Oak asked.
"Yup!" Leah excitedly replied.
"Very well then. I find it great that you're following in the footsteps of your father.
And so Leah followed Prof. Oak to his lab, where Blue was already waiting.
"Gramps! I'm fed up o' waitin'!" Blue complained to Oak.
"Blue? Let me think.....oh, that's right! I told you to come! Just wai..."
"I've been waitin' since I woke up! Why do I still need to wait!?" Blue impatiently replied.
"Alright, alright. Pick any of these three Pokemon on the table. And Leah, do wait for a while, Blue is quite the impatient person" Oak replied.
Laid on the table were 3 pokeballs completely identical to one another.
"Oh wait! I forgot to open the Pokeballs! Darn my memory." Oak said as he opened the Pokeballs for Blue and Leah.
Oak took the balls and opened them. Each time he opened one, a bright flash appeared followed by a small Pokemon about the size of a toddler.
"Anyways, here they are, in all of their young glory. These three are Pokemon that I've chosen for you to pick. Each has a type which would be weak to the other. Much like you, they're only kids and are barely even half a year old. You can pick any of the three, and since there are two of you, I'll keep the one that isn't chosen. An old man like me needs friends, you know." Oak said.
"Anyways, Blue, since you're in such a hurry, pick one." He said.
Blue was a little confused on which to pick. Unlike his friend, he knew a lot about Pokemon and was trying to choose which Pokemon would be stronger.
Blue picked up one of the Pokemon, a Charmander, which looked like a red salamander with a tail on fire. "Char?" The Pokemon cutely replied.
"Ah, Charmander. You should raise it patiently, as Charmanders are known to be quite unresponsive. And with your impatience, he would teach you."
But Blue knew about all of the Gym Leaders they would face in his journey as a trainer, and the first two leaders have have Rock-typed and Water-typed Pokemon, respectively. Charmander is a Fire type, weak to both Rock and Water types. Blue didn't want this difficulty, so he refused the Charmander.
"Sorry, Gramps. I don't think Charmander would be a good start, especially with the first two Gym leaders." Blue said.
"But wouldn't the challenge be fun?" Leah interrupted.
"I'd be stuck trying to hopelessly beat them with a Pokemon they'd just run over." Blue replied.
"Why would Charmander be run over?" Leah asked, which both Oak and Blue ignored.
"Oh well, same old Blue." Oak commented while Blue put down Charmander.
Blue then noticed another Pokemon, this time a Squirtle, which looked like a blue turtle. "Squirtle-squirt!" The Squirtle said as Blue stared at him.
"Ah yes, Squirtle! It's very easy to raise!" Oak said as he saw Blue noticing Squirtle
Blue knew that Squirtle was a Water type, so it would beat Rock-types like the ones the first gym leader would have like nothing. Blue decided this was to be his Pokemon.
"Gramps, I'll take Squirtle!" He said to his grandpa.
"Well, ok then!" He said. "Would you like to give it a nickname?"
"Well, I don't know..probably. But I'll think of one later." Blue replied.
"Ah well. It's your turn now, Leah. Pick any one of these two." He said to Leah.
"Well, ok then." She replied.
She went to the table. The only Pokemon left were Charmander and a third pokemon, Bulbasaur.
But Leah noticed Charmander first. To her, it was appealing that it uses fire, as to her it is very powerful.
The thing is, she doesn't know the difference between types. She just say one Pokemon would be strong if she saw it battle or if its look is intimidating.
So Leah picked up the Charmander. To her, it didn't look intimidating. It just looked...cute.
"I wonder about this one..." She said.
Just then, the Charmander sneezed, which sent a puff of flame right in her face, setting her hair on fire.
Leah didn't notice that she was on fire, until Blue pointed it out.
"Uh, Leah? Your hair's on fire." He said.
"What are you..." She said, stopping mid-sentence as she noticed a hot feeling behind her head. Soon, she could smell smoke. Leah began to panic. She dropped Charmander, causing it to cry.
"Oh dear, this is bad!" Oak said. He quickly ran and picked up a fire extinguisher. He ran back to Leah.
"Stand back, Blue! Here goes!" He said as he began spraying the fire extinguisher at Leah.
"Ack!" She screamed. Things were not going well.
Soon, the fire on her hair was out.
"Whew, that was close." Oak commented.
But Leah was only focused on her hair. A good amount of it was gone.
"Oh no! My hair!" She screamed. It took her a great deal to make it that long and beautiful, and know it was gone, thanks to a sneezing Pokemon.
"Prof. Oak, I don't think I would like a Pokemon that could set me on fire!" She scarily said to Oak. She put back the still crying Charmander on the table and backed away.
"Then I guess this last Pokemon will do for you then." Oak said as he picked up the last Pokemon, Bulbasaur.
Leah stared at Bulbasaur. It was the weirdest of the three, and it had an onion-like bulb on it's back.
Blue meanwhile, was worried. "Great. She I thought she would go for the Charmander. Now she has a Pokemon with a type advantage over mine." He thought.
"Saur! Bulbasaur!" The Bulbasaur said to Leah. It then began to extend one of its vines to her.
"Oh look! Bulbasaur wants to shake hands with you!" Oak said as he saw this.
"Are these...tentacles?" She asked.
"Oh no, those are vines." Oak replied.
"Anyways, Bulbasaur is a solid choice! It's one worth raising!" Oak said to Leah.
"Then I'll go with this one then!" Leah replied. "I think I'll name you....hmmmmmmmmm, what about Bulba? No wait, that's stupid. Uhhh..."
"What about Saur? Short and sweet!" Oak interrupted.
"Sure!" Leah replied as she picked up Bulbasaur.
"Well, hello there, Saur! You and I are gonna be together now!" Leah said to her new Pokemon while hugging it. Bulbasaur happily replied to her "Bulba! Bulbasaur!".
"And well, that's that. You should get going now. You have a long way to go."
"Sure then, Prof. Oak!" Leah replied. She began to run towards the exit.
But Blue wanted to test out his new Pokemon.
"Hey Leah! Wait up!" He shouted at Leah, who stopped just as she was about to open the door.
"Yes? What is it?" She replied.
"Let's test out our Pokemon and see who's stronger! I'll take you on!" Blue said. He already sent out Squirtle to fight. "Squirtle-squirt!" It said.
"Uh...I really don't know how to battle yet." She replied.
The sentence she just said made Blue want to bang his head on a wall. Seriously, a Pokemon Trainer who doesn't know how to fight?
But Blue would let that pass. After all, she was just new to this kind of stuff, unlike Blue, who had read about it a lot thanks to his grandpa's many books on it.
"Oh, for Pete's sake. So pushy as always. Leah, you've never battled before, have you?" Oak said to Leah.
"Nope." She replied.
"Ah well. A Pokemon battle is when trainers pit their Pokemon against each other. The first one to have their opponent's Pokemon faint or be unable to battle wins. Inflicting damage against your opponent is the key to victory. Try battling for yourself to see!" Oak said to her.
"Oh, I see." Leah replied.
"Ermm, how do I make my Pokemon attack?" She asked. Again, this was a wallbanger for Blue.
"I can't believe this." Blue moaned.
"Just make your Pokemon attack by calling out a command! Like 'Tackle' or something" Oak said to Leah.
"Okay. Umm, Saur, tackle Squirtle!" she said.
"Bulbasaur!" Saur replied. He began moving really fast and rammed Squirtle, catching it by surprise.
"Well, at least you did something!" Blue commented.
"Squirtle, use Tackle too!" Blue commanded. Squirtle obeyed and rammed Bulbasaur in revenge.
"Saur, use Tackle again!" Leah retorted. Saur also obeyed and rammed Squirtle again.
The fight went on and on, with nothing but the Tackle attack. Since the Pokemon were young anyway, they wouldn't have much attacks.
"Squirtle, just keep holding on!" Blue said to Squirtle, who was getting tired from continuosly ramming Saur all over and over again.
"Saur, you too!" Leah said to Saur. The fight went on and on and on until Blue came up with an idea.
"Squirtle, dodge Saur's next move!" Blue commanded. Almost immediately, Saur began charging at Squirtle, which Squirtle managed to dodge.
"Now, tackle Saur while it's not looking!" Blue commanded again. Squirtle obeyed and rammed Saur hard. Saur was in a lot of pain.
"Saur, you do it! I know you can!" Leah said to Saur, trying to encourage it to win. However, Saur was unable to take the pain, and Saur unfortunately fell on the ground, too exhausted to battle. "S-saurrrr." It moaned.
"No!" Leah cried. She didn't want to lose. But she knew that Saur couldn't take anymore. All she could do was pick Saur up and hug it to let Saur know she cares.
"You did your best." She said.
"Well, looks like a beat ya! Guess I'm just that good." Blue said to Leah.
"Oh well, time ta go. Smell ya guys later!" Blue said to both Leah and Oak.
Oak could only comfort the two after Blue left.
"Losing is part of the experience, Leah. Back when I was in your shoes, I lost a lot in battling since I wasn't good enough. So I trained a lot and I managed to start winning! While I don't battle much anymore, as I prefer to study Pokemon nowadays, I assure you that even losses can teach you. It could teach you how to deal with a move or something!" Oak said, trying to cheer Leah up.
"Really? I should try that, then," She replied.
"Yes, yes you should. Oh, and by the way, When you lose in a proper match, you are supposed to pay the winner prize money. So when you lose, always have a bag of money in hand!" Oak said to Leah.
"I'll remember that. Anyways, I have to go now. I'll let Saur rest for a while then we'll go." Leah replied.
"Goodbye then. Good luck to you both, and to Blue." Oak replied back.
"Bye!"
Leah ran out of the lab. She was ready to leave. Staring at the sky, she was full with hopes of becoming a great trainer.
"I know I'll be a great trainer like my dad someday! I know I will!"
