"Kick-Ass", a new comic coming from Marvel (written by Mark Millar with John Romita Jr. doing the artwork) is playing host to the widest marketing campaign seen by ANY comic (that I'm aware of)...and it's not even been released yet. A good month from the actual debut of the series, Kick-Ass has a video on YouTube (showing the "hero" in action), a MySpace page, and not one, but TWO music videos with songs SPECIFICALLY written for the series. Needless to say, this is becoming quite a big deal. Wasn't too interested myself, but a marketing campaign this big might make me give it a shot.

I see to scenarios.

1. It's so good that Marvel wants to throw all this money and publicity into it.

2. They're caking lipstick on one butt-ugly pig.

Hope for the former.

Looks mostly interesting, actually. Since I'm probably one of a very small amount of Millar fans, I think I might give this a go at some point this year.

Despite the massive marketing campaign though, it wouldn't really surprise me if the book didn't do that well and ended after one or two runs - but oh well, we'll have to see.

I've been planning on tradewaiting it since it was first announced. ^^ It looks really good, which isn't surprising considering Mark Millar's behind it.

The marketing flurry continues as Mark Millar is now trying to appeal to EVERYONE in ANY way possible. Retailers are now being given the chance to display a specific Kick-Ass poster, post a picture of it on Millarworld, and then receive a free ad in the first issue.

As for regular fans, they're being given a countdown banner.

Source. Includes the banner and poster.

Now im not sure if its becuae i watched the (Youtube) video with the sound off (becaue im at work), but it didnt seem to have anything to do wit ha comic book to me, except that for the act of gallantry shown, but that didnt give any mention to a comic book? </being stupid?>

The person you see is supposed to be the main character from the book. They originally put it up as just some random guy fighting crime in New York (i.e., it was originally intended to, supposedly, be realistic). It was only later that it was linked to the comic (though not MUCH later, but definitely before it showed up on the MySpace page).

I gathered that it was supposed to be linked to the events/ main character of the comic, i guess it must have been the lack of sound that dissasociated it for me, i'll have to watch it properly another time.

Still, another hero could be fun!

I miss heros like the power pack and The(early 1990's) New Warriors!
