Well ive played through SS the normal way and it was entertaining enough, but now that I'm a third of the way through HG I can't help but be bored. I've got a jirachi and a bayleef and nothing else. Can somebody suggest an interesting twist that I can use to make the game a bit more of a challenge? Possibly only using boring and weak pokemon or something? What do u guys do to make it more of a challenge?

You could try the nuzlocke challenge, but that may be too extreme. You could also try using pokes with a low BST, or a terrible movepool or something

Don't let any of your pokemon evolve?

Monotype?

Nuzlocke?

Single-pokemon run (excluding HM slaves)?

I'm about halfway (just defeated Elite Four) through HG doing a basics only challenge nad it can get pretty difficult. If doing this I also reccommend a few additional rules: A Pokemon's Evolutionary stage is determined at the point it was introduced (Eg, Pikachu counts as a Basic, Sudowoodo counts as a non-evolving Basic), and to restrict the number of non-evolving basics (eg, Lapras, any Legendaries) in your party - personnally I'm allowing myself no more than three at a time (although until the Elite Four i'd never used more than two).

Single type challenges are also fun, but it depends on the type that you choose. I did Platinum using a Bug-type only team, starting from the point that I caught my first Bug. You might want to allow yourself a HMSlave from outside the type, as it may become difficult/impossible to carry all the HMs you need.

you could mabey..not use jirache? hat'd kinda do it

You could also not use any legendaries. That's what I do.

I always breed to make a team with egg moves i like and start over my pearl...now soulsilver...and level them to the 40 and 50's then trade them to my Diamond or Heatgold and make another team

I heard of someone doing something called a baby challenge, which was basically using the base forms of all Pokemon you are able to capture. You don't evolve them or anything, and you just kept them in their base forms. So basically, you would have a team that would look like this: Cyndaquil, Mareep, Pidgey, Slowpoke, Phanpy,& Bellsprout, instead of letting them evolve into their final forms.
