The other day Mijzelffan pointed out to me that games that were created to receive downloadable content like Event Areas can't really be detected by hackers since the information isn't actually on the card at the time.

Now, I don't know if this is true since I don't hack. But it did get me thinking.

Today I was going through the maps of the regions and looked at the HGSS map of Kanto. While looking it over, I noticed a land mass near Silence Bridge. It didn't immediatley stand out since I recall the landmass being in the art of FRLG.

However, the one thing I've noticed about the Gen IV Tohjo maps are that they are very very precise on the areas of the games. It's like someone took the in game maps of the cities and routes, slapped them together, and took an aerial shot. Which then made me wonder... why is this landmass, this island, still here?

It's not like the map has to be the same as Gen 3's map. Because it isn't. Mountains and rivers were added or moved. Yet this island remained on map that is so very precise.

So, here's my question. Does anyone think this island may be a part of a downloadable event area that isn't naturally programmed into the game? Again, I don't know the specifics of how that works so if it turns out I'm wrong, please correct me.

Personally, I think this island may have something to do with our mysterious missing white rock.

It's a decent sized area, so there could potentially be something significant there. It would be a massive change for the series to release an event like that.

Cartridge games aren't built to have content added that isn't already programmed into the game. Sorry to crush the dream, but for these games, if hackers haven't found it, it's not there.

The best explanation I can think of is, imagine that picture without that landmass. You'd be stuck with a horrible looking right angle coast right there, even worse than the horrible right angle routes that plague the rest of the city, or that STUPID PORT CITY BLOCKED OFF BY A GIANT, STUPID, IMMOVABLE BRIDGE THAT'S CLEARLY ONLY FIVE FEET OVER THE WATER. I hate Kanto so goddamn much.

I could have seen that being used for an event but there are not many event pokemon that i could see being there. Maybe mew or shaymin could be there, but both of those have been given out. They already have a pretty full line-up of events so, unless they keep supporting Gen 4 for a while after Gen. 5's introduction, I don't see any more events happening after Hall of Origin Arceus.

I think you're on to something; something that could be a possisble future event.

You're wrong in some things; back then in the GBA era, the e-Reader could load content to your game that wasn't previously there (thus hackers could not have access to them), but as most games weren't enough prepared to handle large quantities of data, much of the potential of the device was wasted. Games that took the most advantage of the e-Reader were Super Mario Bros. 3 Super Mario Advance 4, with as much as 43 new levels released for the Japanese carts, and Pokémon with the various Battle e-Card series (which also served to unlock the Regi dolls in RSE) and new floor layouts for the Trainer Tower/Hill.
