It was not related to any increased load caused by the opening of the Trade Center.

We'll provide more details as they're available.

Interesting thing to note. Prior to the downtime, I had an icon displayed for Bulbagarden (the bulbasaur head) on my tab bar. But now all I get is the typical dog-eared page.

A server with bad wiring, maybe?

My comment is that I tried to log on at one time this evening, got a 503 error so I went off and did other things. Came back two hours later, same 503 error. Half an hour later, I get to bmgf but it displays a server busy message.

And that has been my evening.

Hey, I know this mayyy not be related but for the past few days I get this at the top of my page:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in [path]/index.php(67) : eval()'d code on line 211

Anything to be concerned with?

That's an error associated with our Twitter addon. Not every user is getting it. If you are, wipe your twitter settings from your user control panel, wipe your BMGf cookie, then log back in and put in your twitter settings again. Should fix it.

Yes, we do. We've known that for a LONG while now. It seems as if the dual-server connection might be having some problems when MediaWiki is upgraded.

Can you guys get a second server with a mirror site that update in sync with this one so that if one goes down we'll at least have the other? Or is that just a really dumb (and expensive) idea?

Beyond which, we're already on a two-server setup. To mirror this would take four servers. We're better off just using four, if we're going that route.

The perils of being a small/midsize outfit is that you don't have the basically unlimited bandwidth and computing power of the big boys (CNN, Wikipedia, Google) but you get many more hits than the little guys (sites you haven't ever heard of,) without significantly more resources.

How exactly would I do this?

I did this and it did not work. It doesn't matter as it just appears on the main page (for me, anyway) and I just ignore it.
