Hi everyone !!! Happy to be back on Bulbagarden Forums. Ok so here is my question I recently saw an episode of Pokémon it was the one with Tirtouga and Team Rocket and when Ash and the guy who met Tirtouga as kid go to retrieve the fossil in the aircraft Jessie and James say something very interesting about how many extinct Pokémon have yet to be discovered which does make sense I don't think there were only 17 prehistoric species in the prehistoric Pokémon World and I thought since probably the fossils to these Pokémon are probably never to be found thus never being restored why can't we play as a character from that time and catch these Pokémon but I guess one of the questions here is how would you capture these Pokémon and copy there data like you do with the Pokédex and also trade with no such technology in ancient times and would a game like this work I think there is some great potential for some really cool Pokémon based on real extinct animals does anyone else agree I'd love to see everyones thoughts on this.

My apologies for the long sentence.

That was one REALLY long sentence....
Maybe Pokemon would be befriended in a different way. Like maybe something closer along the lines of Conquest. Prehistoric Pokemon are confirmed to have lived along side humans (In the episode Battling the Enemy within, carvings of Aerodactyl and Kabutops could be seen on the wall with humans), so maybe this concept would work. Perhaps the game would go into details about how the first pokemon battles occurred and stuff like that. a game like this could be interesting, but i'm not sure how it would work.

I think the only way this could work is through the character time travelling back to prehistoric times and being able to go forward when needed, because in pre historic times, humans/Pokemon Centers and things like Poke Balls did not exist so honestly it's a cool idea but I'm not sure how it would work. What would probably work better is more time travel events like the Celebi event in HG/SS in future games that would allow you to travel back or possibly forward in time to battle/catch Pokemon.

A prehistoric Pokemon game would be difficult to pull off, as there is no general "prehistoric world" with all of the current fossil Pokemon that could be visited. The fossils all come from wildly different time periods separated by millions upon millions of years, and each represents a tiny sample of the vast amount of unseen species that were around during each era.

A Pokemon game set in prehistoric times would be a major step back of the series due to the lack of pokeballs and Pokemon Centers. Plus it'll receive an E 10+ rating for suggestive fashion theme for prehistoric humans, especially for a female gym leader who bares her midriff.

Most Pokemon who would fit the theme would be rock and ground types meaning that the game really wouldn't have enough variance in type.

I always thought that the reason the fossil Pokémon were Rock Types was because of how long they were exposed to the earth when they're in there fossil forms. Come to think of it some of the fossil Pokémon we have now don't even look like Rock Types.

I don't think this could work in enough elements from the main series games to be considered one of those, but I could see it being a really cool spin-off game. At the same time, though, I doubt they're going to want to debut new pokemon in games outside of the main series... Aquanova's time travel idea could work pretty well, though.

I think that it only would work as a spin-off, but designing new fossil Pokémon is going to be a lot of work and the new fossil Pokémon will probably be considered unofficial since Game Freak didn't design them.
They'd probably not be as good as the Pokémon Game Freak have designed and Game Freak would never feature those Pokémon in any main game since they were not designed by Game Freak.

I would rather than the time travel concept want that you're born in the prehistoric world and it's basically a prehistoric version of the main games.

As for the problem with Pokémon Centers and Poké Balls:
Pokémon Centers = Prehistoric Nurse Joy in a hut or cave using berries, herbs and other natrual medicines.
Poké Balls = Prehistoric version of the Apricot Poké Balls.

The time period and "humans didn't exist back then" problems could be solved by explaining that not everything has been discovered yet (meaning that some Pokémon lived outside of their expected period of time and that there were some humans back then). The Pokémon world and the real world isn't the same thing, so even if there were no humans living when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth doesn't mean that that were the case in the Pokémon world with fossil Pokémon. Another solution would be if the game took place in a new undiscovered region.

It also would be cool to see if they did make a game like this where is it where certain types of Pokémon came from such as Legends and types like Dragon and Poison and how all the types fit in a family branch.
