A site we all know and love...

I've been noticing lately that fan communities have been getting some attention in the media. One site in particular has been mentioned in the news recently: FFN.

Fanfiction.Net, a site most of us are familiar with, was listed as one of the 100 Best Websites for writers in a recent edition of Writer's Digest magazine.

And in this week's TV Guide, it's listed in the fanfiction section of an article that includes fansites for some popular TV shows. TV Guide called it "one of the most comprehensive fan fiction sites."

It's nice to see the fan community online getting some respect.

Oh yeah, I read that in the TV Guide today and I got all excited. I think it's really great that the site and fanfiction itself is getting some positive attention. ^^
I think I also heard about another magazine or newspaper mentioning fanfiction.net last year, but since my mind is also on vacation at the moment, I can't think of what the article was about exactly. ^^;;;
But I do remember that is was praising the site for getting teens interested in writing. ^^

...have these people seen the works of AAML Fan? They'd turn around from there and change their minds about the value of fanfiction. I believe my IQ went down 20 points after finishing all three chapters of "Confessions." A crime against writing in general.

Togepretty, FFN was in Time magazine at some point last year (or the year before?). My friend Llyxius sent me a copy of the article, but I'd have to dig it out of my e-mail inbox, which could take a while.

No argument there. However, the really bad stuff is few and far between. There are excellent stories in nearly every genre on the site which more than makes up for the gaki-fics.

Confessions was bad, but so was "To Be The Greatest Pokemon...MODEL?" Pure madness, if I do say so myself. What was Satokasu thinking telling us to back off authoress Da Goldeen Gal?

Horrid works last for long periods of time in memory. Of course, I also remember classics like "This Is Your Brain On Ketchup...Any Questions?"and "Defenders of the Badge." And who could forget Joe Cloudheart's Calvin and Hobbes classic "Spaceman Spiff and the Marriage of Doom!"?

I believe this was on BenRG's faves list for a while. :-D

Most of the really bad fan fictions I've read have come from the AAML site, believe it or not. Some were okay but the majority had no real plot to begin with.

Oddly enough, I don't remember the bad fics; I generally remember the good ones. What's the worst fan fiction any of you have read lately?

It's still there. Ironicallly, Ben has not left a review on that fic.

Since then, Joe has written a series of spoofs on the TV show "7th Heaven," in which Reverend Camden goes insane. The house burns down in each fic.

Depends on the story and the writing, but in terms of story, there's some fanfic going on about... erm... if I remember this correctly, Misty sleeping with Richie, Brock and Ash [in the same night], getting pregnant, not knowing who the father is [indeed, not actually caring - just hoping that it's Ash's baby], and getting with Ash all at the same time.

I usually go into hysterics reading the Gakicrap - a lot of them are usually decent authors taking the piss out of Kawaii AAML Believer half the time, though - Satokasu Daisuki seems to be one of them...

But, Kaz is generally correct. A lot of the people who post there are basically gakis. Hell, there isn't even a category for other couples. There's just AAMRN and JAJRN listed.
But I like the little contests they have, and the webmaster is nice. ^_^
