Wasn't exactly sure where to put this...
  • The characters in the show are ageless cartoons, as has been stated or implied by most official sources out there.
  • Satoshi, Haruka, and Kasumi are 10 years old, Takeshi and Kenji are 15, Masato is around 7 or 8, and Musashi and Kojiro are 25-ish
  • Satoshi's father, Kasumi's parents, etc. are not major factors in the show and will either not be revealed or will be revealed in an undramatic way. For fanfic ideas and such, though I go with the AU-ish unofficial novel that was written by one of the producers. Satoshi's father was a traveling pokemon trainer (NOT Sakaki) who seduced the 18-year-old Hanako, but then abandoned her when she became pregnant with Satoshi. Hanako's parents also had a similar situation. Kasumi's parents abandoned her and her older sisters at the Hanada Gym when Kasumi was very young.
  • Misty's last name is not Waterflower.
  • After Satoshi-tachi discovered that the Tokiwa Gym was being run by Team Rocket, they reported it. Sakai fled before an investigation could go underway and the gym was shut down until Kikuko had it rebuilt and temorarily took it over.
  • Pokemon trainers are either "homeschooled" or go through an intense education before the age of 10. A certain exam must be passed before one can get a trainer's lisence. This exam covers outdoor survival skills as well as pokemon knowlege
  • A trainer's lisence can be taken away for improper treatment of pokemon.
  • Normal animals exist, they're just never shown. It is considered somewhat wrong to eat pokemon, however pokemon do eat each other.
  • The Pokemon League has no political power, but they do set rules for official tournaments and such. They also have their own line of products, which are seen more often than other brands of products because they're cheap (pokemon trainers don't have a lot of money, traveling and all).
  • There is a central government. The Orange Islands are a different country while Jouto, Kanto, and Houen are all different "states" (as you will) of the same country. Pokemon Centers are subsidised.
  • New pokemon are not "discovered" with each region, but upgrades are made to the pokedex nonetheless because it is a relatively new technology and entries are still being written.
  • Being a member of the Shitennou is a title, not a job. However, the Shitennou are expected to set an example for younger trainers.
  • Being a pokemon trainer isn't acutally that common of a job, it's just what we see because the show focuses on a pokemon fanatic.
  • The pokemon world is a different planet.
I don't know why I used Japanese names that time x_X.

- The characters age.
- The universe featured in Pokemon is a parallel of our own only populated with Pokemon.
- Pokemon are animals with hyperactive DNA and highly intelligent.
- The reason why civilization became significantly advanced is due to Pokemon research. Due to major findings about science from researching pokemon, majority of the economy is dedicated to nurturing, breeding, and researching pokemon.
- Hoenn/Kanto/Johto/Orange Islands make up one somewhat significant continent the size of Japan in the middle of the Pacific.
- Cities in Kanto/Johto/Hoenn are somewhat small due to government regulations concerning urban sprawl/expansion in order to protect local pokemon habitats. You will never find suburbs around Saffron or Celadon. As a result, cities have taken the San Francisco/Tokyo way out: Lotsa apartments and high rises. That explains why Kanto has so many cities with enormous high rises despite the amount of ample land available for low density expansion. (I played too much SimCity 4)
- Despite the amount of traveling on foot Ash and Crew have been shown doing, I believe that they take public transportation plenty of times between cities.

Pokemon, for the most part, possess the same level of intelligence that we do, only their speech consists of syllables that only other pokemon have been known to understand. It is possible that you come to know your pokemon so well that you can understand it without being able to understand its language. As a result, pokemon also possess the full range of emotions that we do, and yes, that includes anger, jealousy, and other negative emotions. From that, it can also be deduced that pokemon can be evil, but Meowth already made that obvious for us.

Pokemon evolution can occur a number of ways. First of all, wild pokemon can evolve by themselves, but I imagine it takes a long time for them to do so. Training pokemon can make evolution happen a lot sooner than it normally would. There are also pokemon that evidently never evolve, even though they can. I suppose this is the explanation for the old Treecko in that one anime ep. Ash's Pikachu is the best example of this, as he wants to fight in the name of all Pikachu, so he refused the Thunder Stone. Also, in the anime at least, the pokemon that you need to trade in the game to evolve can just evolve to their next state; however, it has never been shown how they explain this. It makes sense, though. I suppose it happens just like any other evolution would.

So this is just stating beliefs, not discussing them... =\ I have discussed my belief in other topics as people are probably aware; I have no opinions on specific characters from the anime though, that's never seemed like something that's relevant to Pokemon as a whole (which is what I am all about) and I don't follow the anime.

Normal animals are shown. If I remember correctly, in the seventh episode (or whatever episode where Misty's sisters were shown for the first time), a tank of fish were shown.

Also, at the now-abandoned "Loose Change" website, there was a scan of a playing card (the Pokémon playing cards, not the Pokémon TCG) that shows Ash and his friends in traditional clothing at a street festival, with a dog in the foreground.

I do wish normal animals were shown more often. I always thought it'd be interesting to see a Pokémon hunting an animal, or vice versa. (Likely, it'd be the Pokémon would hunt the animal, as Pokémon can rationalize.)

I don't watch anime so I have little to say. Still, I do not believe in other animals existing in the pokemon world. I believe the pokemon world is just a part of our world in a fictional universe so the USA exists, Germany exists but some of the regions in Japan are replaced with pokemon regions. Pokemon have different intelligence. Like a alakazam has better than human intelligence but a bulbasaur has less. Pokemon do not understand everything other people say and they do not have their own language. They do not say their names. Pokemon League is just a league but recieves much attention since pokemon affect daily life so much. Trainers are not necessarily young and young ones just are allowed to travel depending on situation. More trainers are adults. Pokemon are eaten. Trainer lisences only exist if you are participating in the league/gym campaign. Pokemon generations are not discovered so just remove all that from GSC. Pokemon are as animals of the pokemon world. Miltank are bred to be eaten, pidgey hunt Caterpie and all that jazz. Pokemon evolve differently. Most by age/experience. So an old torchic witll be a combusken but not a fighter. Pokemon that evolve by trade can not evolve unless unlikely and specific circumstances are followed. Because those are hard to achieve pokemon trades make these circumstances happen. Pokemon are not aliens. Some pokemon do consist of various kingdoms not one. So tangela is not necessarily an animal but a plant with a brain and various other tissues and organs that animals have. Pokeballs are just containers with various complicated magic/science. People or objects can be contained. A amount larger than one can be contained. Pokeballs contain a mechanism that reads the mind of the pokemon in it to project the sensations that the pokemon wants subconsiously or contiously. It was made with various tests on psychic pokemon. Technology like this can be obtained because of the supernatural things in the pokemon world and the advanced pokemon that are out there. TMs do similar things but show the mind and add the info to the databanks. Ghost pokemon and souls in the pokemon world dwell in the other relm and the ghost pokemon jump back and forth between the two.

I'll continue later.

Another fan... I thought you had little to say.

Anyway, I have to say that

- The characters do age. I mean, I highly doubt Satoshi would still be 10 by the time he reaches Hoenn.
- The show's filled with plot holes. Ho-oh was "recently discovered", but was explained to have been in 300 year old legends. Whatshisname in Mahogony town claims to have lived with his Piloswine for many years, though that Pokemon was also "recently discovered."
- For some reason, the legendary Pokemon always show themselves to Satoshi, though not once to 99.999% of other trainers. He saw Ho-oh on his first day of training. This may have been explained, but I highly doubt it.
- Satoshi picks up chicks by electrocuting the girl's bike.

- Much of the cast has little to no clue.
- The characters don't age. They may gain wisdom or knowledge as a matter of course.
- We will never know Misty or Brock's last name. May's is an off chance at best. The fanon last names are as good as anything, and as bad as anything. It's all preference.
- The Giants will make the playoffs and lose in the second round.
- The main cast's Pokemon are the only ones to have personality. This is either due to bad writing or "chosen-one-ness."
- There is uninentional irony throughout. This is probably due to bad writing. I will go no further on this.
- Good luck with any major pairing becoming canon. You'll need it.

Hmmm...interesting, i found a statement on a french site that posts the ages of the characters in the anime:

- Ash/Satoshi: Age 10 at the beginning of the anime and 14 with the episodes AG

- Misty/Kasumi: Age 11 at the beginning of the anime and 15 with the episodes AG

- Brock/Takeshi: Age 13 at the beginning of the anime and 17 with the episodes AG

- May/Haruka: Age 10 at the beginning of season 6 and 12 in late season 7

- Max/Masato: Age 8 at the beginning of season 8

It isn't quite clear if these are the real ages of the characters( the ages in the AGs' are estimated) so I agree with the fact that the characters are ageless + there isn't no phisical changes of the characters during the anime (probably Brock got a little fat during the AG lol). The characters are ,theoreticly, growing up in age and that's all.

1. The characters age. I think Ash looks taller than he was at first, but their aging is not emphasized.

2. Pokemon Professors must be very poor, as they never seem to leave their hole-in-the-wall hometown except that one time where you beat the E4.

3. Pokemon have levels and require much of the game mechanics, yet J&J's ekans and koffing can evolve just because they asked them to.

4. Pokeballs are a ripoff of Capsules from Capsule Co. (DB).

5. There is a lot of Goku in Ash, esp. if you watch DB.

6. Pokemon were named for their sounds, not vice versa -- except for ones like Charizard and Gyrados who just growl.

7. In my fanfics I like to imagine that the Pokemon World is simply ours in the future, after animals evolve to escape complete destruction by humans.

8. Team Snagem so stole the idea of corrupting pokemon hearts from TR.

9. The GS in the GS ball stands for Giovanni Sakaki (or Sketchit, depending on which fic of mine you're reading).

Characters DO age.
Remember Lapras looking different from when it was a little baby-thing and it didn't evolve or anything? :p Though if you meant the humans... well, I definitely see Ash looking older, Brock too. Oh! And Misty now has something that resembles an actual pair of breasts!
...
Sorry.

Well, time DOES pass over there, just real slow. xD

I don't think anyone would eat a Pokemon, except other Pokemon... the only thing they seem to eat are fruits, vegetables, and FISH. Regular FISH... it's so weird seeing fish. xDD;
I don't think there ARE animals... maybe there was, but I don't think so. xD; Or MAYBE Ash knows what a cow is because there are these creatures called 'animals' on TV that take YEARS to evolve and can't do awesome attacks and are generally very boring compared to Pokemon.
...

I dunno. xD
