Wasn't exactly sure where to put this...
- The characters in the show are ageless cartoons, as has been stated or implied by most official sources out there.
- Satoshi, Haruka, and Kasumi are 10 years old, Takeshi and Kenji are 15, Masato is around 7 or 8, and Musashi and Kojiro are 25-ish
- Satoshi's father, Kasumi's parents, etc. are not major factors in the show and will either not be revealed or will be revealed in an undramatic way. For fanfic ideas and such, though I go with the AU-ish unofficial novel that was written by one of the producers. Satoshi's father was a traveling pokemon trainer (NOT Sakaki) who seduced the 18-year-old Hanako, but then abandoned her when she became pregnant with Satoshi. Hanako's parents also had a similar situation. Kasumi's parents abandoned her and her older sisters at the Hanada Gym when Kasumi was very young.
- Misty's last name is not Waterflower.
- After Satoshi-tachi discovered that the Tokiwa Gym was being run by Team Rocket, they reported it. Sakai fled before an investigation could go underway and the gym was shut down until Kikuko had it rebuilt and temorarily took it over.
- Pokemon trainers are either "homeschooled" or go through an intense education before the age of 10. A certain exam must be passed before one can get a trainer's lisence. This exam covers outdoor survival skills as well as pokemon knowlege
- A trainer's lisence can be taken away for improper treatment of pokemon.
- Normal animals exist, they're just never shown. It is considered somewhat wrong to eat pokemon, however pokemon do eat each other.
- The Pokemon League has no political power, but they do set rules for official tournaments and such. They also have their own line of products, which are seen more often than other brands of products because they're cheap (pokemon trainers don't have a lot of money, traveling and all).
- There is a central government. The Orange Islands are a different country while Jouto, Kanto, and Houen are all different "states" (as you will) of the same country. Pokemon Centers are subsidised.
- New pokemon are not "discovered" with each region, but upgrades are made to the pokedex nonetheless because it is a relatively new technology and entries are still being written.
- Being a member of the Shitennou is a title, not a job. However, the Shitennou are expected to set an example for younger trainers.
- Being a pokemon trainer isn't acutally that common of a job, it's just what we see because the show focuses on a pokemon fanatic.
- The pokemon world is a different planet.
