This thought has been on my mind for quite awhile, so I thought it would be an interesting discussion to have.

As quite a few of us know, there was an interview with former Pokémon Anime staff member Masamitsu Hidaka about the infamous GS Ball. In that interview, it was revealed that the GS Ball was originally going to contain a Celebi that hung out with Ash and Co, for a while. This was scrapped when it was decided that Celebi was to be used for the fourth movie instead, leading the the staff deciding to dumb the GS Ball on Kurt and attempt to have the GS Ball fade into obscurity.

Of course, since the GS Ball was to have a Celebi in it, and the GS Ball was dumped onto Kurt, let's say Kurt actually manages to open the GS Ball and find Celebi inside. What do you think Kurt's reaction is? What would he do with the Celebi? Would he just let it go free, or would he offer Celebi the chance to stick around or come by anytime it get bored?

Personally, I'd image Kurt would ask Celebi to use its time travel abilities to help predict the sales of possible specialty balls, which would in turn benefit Celebi if it caused Kurt to be more environmentally cautious about how his work effects the ecosystem.

Anyways, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this matter.

Y'know, you've gotten me wanting an actual in-universe fate for the GS Ball after it was left with Kurt. What did he do with it once Ash and friends left Azalea Town? I guess we'll never know...

I do remember expecting them to deal with the GS Ball after the Johto League was finished, but then confused when they ended up back in Kanto in the following episode. Before the Team Plasma two-parter was skipped, this was something fans frequently brought up, especially once the interview happened. Despite my confusion over them skipping the GS Ball, I wasn't bothered too much by it. It was a plot device to get Ash to go to the Orange Islands and Johto, but after making a big deal about it, they really should have done something more than just forget it in favor of the fourth movie.

As to what Kurt would have done, I don't think he would have used Celebi's powers to check the sales of special Pokeballs. Even if it was to make sure his work wouldn't affect the environment, it does come off as a bit self-centered and it would be a strange request for a Legendary Pokemon. He might bond with Celebi, but I don't think that he'd used its power like that. Celebi probably would have gone off on its own had he opened the GS Ball though.

I think the GS Ball thing was a waste of time in my opinion. Not only was it anime exclusive, it was then abandoned and never heard of again.

I don't think being anime exclusive is a bad thing. The anime kind of has to make storylines exclusive to it to help keep the journeys stretched out for a generation. Not to mention stuff like Ash-Greninja and Team Flare's plot with Zygarde that XY is focusing on now are also anime exclusive storylines.

The problem with the GS Ball was more that they just dropped it and expected fans to not remember it for some reason. I don't think it would have vastly improved Johto for a lot of people. Similar to the two part Team Plasma episodes, I remember quite a few fans thinking that Johto would have been far better if the GS Ball had been resolved. We might have gotten a good mini-arc out of it, especially when I think the mini-arcs within Master Quest are pretty good, but I don't think it would have drastically changed Johto to where it would have been a better received arc as a whole. The GS Ball is also probably one of the least of Johto's problems too.

Johto had a lot of filler episodes. Wish Ash evolved his Totodile or at least have him learn new moves. so many things could've been done in Johto

It would have been nice if the GS Ball had been tied to the fourth movie, with the Celebi from the movie having been released from it. Alas, this was not the case, and we never have and never will hear about the ball again.

We can only assume the GS Ball was just a specially-designed ball, with nothing inside... and nothing more.
