Saw an old episode of Yu-Gi-Oh the other day--the Battle City finals, if you’re interested. As cheesy as the show may be, the rush of nostalgia was insane. And so was born the plot bunny behind this RP:

Aboard the Airship Castelia​

For the wealthiest Pokemon Trainers, a simple ground battle is far too mundane for their tastes. Why should they do anything simply, in ordinary circumstances?

One obscenely rich Trainer, a certain Mr. Boddy, followed this train of thought to the logical destination: battling in the most incredible environment possible. The ground was ruled out right away, of course; even the largest, most dynamic stadium lacked the necessary grandeur for Trainers of the highest standing.

Battling at sea seemed appealing; perhaps aboard the most luxurious cruise liner available? But no, that was still too common. After all, ships like the S.S. Anne and the Royal Unova were open to the public of all things.

And in a flash of genius, it came to him. He remembered which Pokemon was supreme in the legends of his native Hoenn. Why, only the domain of Rayquaza would be a fitting battleground!

And so the airship Castelia was born. A massive airship, it would have room for but sixteen passengers besides the crew. The suites would be exquisite, the dining rooms gorgeous. And of course, there would be room for a standard battling arena. No expense would be spared; the Castelia would provide the greatest battling experience in the world.

Only the elite, the best of the best, would travel aboard this marvel--aboard the airship Castelia.​

The Plot:

With the airship complete, Mr. Boddy came to an unfortunate conclusion: wealth did not meet talent. Were he to invite only the superrich, he feared that all challenge would disappear, and the excitement aboard the airship would come to an end all too quickly.

A simple solution came to mind: leave half the spots aboard empty, and invite eight elite trainers, regardless of status, to attend. Indeed, the tournament would be all the better for doing so. The age-old battle of rich and poor, fought among the clouds!

With that, Mr. Boddy revealed his project to the world, and announced the Castelia Invitational, inviting all to admire the splendor of his beloved Castelia.

Of course, there are a few who don’t hold the rich in very high regard. And unbeknownst to poor, naïve Mr. Boddy, they plan to enter his tournament, and show him exactly why flaunting his wealth and hosting a tournament aboard an airship is a poor idea…​

Gameplay:

The focus of this RP will clearly be on battling, with a simple single-elimination tournament structure. Should enough players sign-up, there will be a preliminary tournament to determine the top eight before they board the Castelia.

Of course, the secondary focus of this RP will be a mystery aspect--who is trying to sabotage the tournament, and bring down the Castelia? If you’re interested, please PM Renewal, and a proper mystery can be worked out.​

[Oblivion]

Name: Klaus Negri
Age: 21
Gender: Male

Status: Competitor

Appearance: Klaus doesn't really care about his appearances, and that's made quite obvious if you get a good look at him. Wild black hair that sticks out in various spots, hollow gray eyes, and pale skin that would make one wonder if he spent any time in the sun. His attire is rather unkempt as well, consisting of a dark red jacket, and what would normally be a black T-shirt, but it now has multiple shades of brown. He also has dark blue jeans, normally dotted with stains of various kinds, as well as black tennishoes. He almost always dons black fingerless gloves with a dark red trim, as well as a black backpack with countless pockets and straps.

Personality: Klaus is absolutely obsessed with Pokemon battling. Bad-tempered, anti-social and downright nasty at times, Klaus is the kind of person who does what he wants to do, regardless of what happens, and will do whatever it takes to win. Even if that means resorting to...less than ideal approaches. He doesn't care about making friends with his Pokemon, he just cares about winning. Nothing except winning. He's just about always seen either battling, or shut in his current accommodations, planning out said battling. He's also a tad bit of a sore loser, and he never forgets a defeat. Repeated losses infuriate him further, and can make his reactions go from irritation to crazed outrage.

He's also not into socialization. Quite the opposite, in fact. He almost always stays locked up in whatever accommodations he has at that moment, training his Pokemon, and planning out battles of every shape and size. It's extremely rare to see him not battling, or making plans for said battling, because he finds everything else as unnecessary.

Background: Ever since his beginnings as a Pokemon Trainer, Klaus has always been fascinated by battling. He lived in the suburbs of Rustboro, and was always awed by Pokemon. Eventually, he was able to acquire his own Pokemon, a Torchic from Professor Birch. Through his early years of being a Trainer, it was apparent that he took the opportunity to battle whenever the chance was given, but in an innocuous way. Then, once his first Gym battle rolled around, things took a nasty turn.

He lost. He had lost his first Gym battle against Roxanne, and that was when things began spiraling out of control.

He was furious at his Pokemon for losing, and began a rigorous and almost painful training regimen to prepare for the rematch. He wanted that Gym badge. He didn't want to lose again. He couldn't lose again. And, surely enough, he had won his second battle against Roxanne, but his interest in battle quickly turned into an outright obsession.

Klaus began carving a path of brutality, earning the eight Gym badges, as well as capturing and training a team of six Pokemon. However, once he challenged the Elite Four, it became a repeat. He had lost once more, and went into an almost mindless rage, requiring an escort out of the League building.

Klaus quickly began searching for other ways to prove his strength, and battle more worthy opponents. He heard word of the Airship Castelia, which was hosting a tournament for trainers far and wide. He had entered the tournament, and just about slaughtered the rest of the competition to claim his spot in the tourney. But would this tournament be enough?

[Flaze]

Name: Lucas Reeze
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Status: Competitor

Appearance: Lucas has straight blond colored hair that reaches down to his neck, he has a pair of hazle colored eyes that can sometimes change to green or blue depending on the light that hits it. He has a darker shade of white skin and wears a puffy green jacket along with a long sleeved yellow sweatshirt so as to let his arms visible. He wears a pair of black thorn jeans and old worn out sneakers.

Personality: Lucas is pretty layed back and lazy when he's not battling, he always likes to do things the easy way and tries to do whatever he can to not do the hard work. When he battles though he becomes more calculating and confident in himself and is able to pull out all the stops as long as he wins. He's pretty cheerful towards most people and always keeps a friendly smile on his face.

Background: Lucas was born in Nuvema Town in Unova from a young age he lived admiring famous trainers from all over the regions and dreamed becoming one since then. When he was little he and his father went to Opelucid City to watch the Pokemon League tournament since then he spent all his time preparing for when he finally became a trainer.

One day his dad was hit by a strong disease that had him bedridden for two years. When he was ten Lucas left his house after starting out with a Tepig that Professor Juniper gave him. During his travel he obtained gym badges and money from battling; money that he sent to his home to pay for his dad's illness. This worked fine for him, not only was he accomplishing his goals but he was also getting fame for gathering the badges so fast and he finally earned a spot in the Pokemon League.

However, just before his fight in the Pokemon League started he received a call that his father had died, he left the league immediately and went back home for his funeral. Afterwards Lucas didn't go back to the Pokemon League and instead decided to travel to other regions so that he could become stronger. While traveling he heard about Castelia and decided to compete in a tournament once more.

[Hadesiro]

Name: Aerick Caeren.
Age: 51
Gender: Male.

Status: Wealthy, or competitor. Both, in a way. He's rich, but would rather battle.

Appearance: Aerick is a huge man, in good shape and around 7' tall. He has long, bright red hair and a big beard, but it's starting to go grey in places. He cares how people see him, as he is an important man in Kanto-Johto, and wears expensive tuxedos at parties and other kinds of get-togethers. His offical Indigo Plateau costume consists of goggles for flying, and a dark red trenchcoat that has multiple black streamers on it. Aerick wears a Griseous Orb as a necklace-medallion.

Background: Aerick is the 4th member of the Kanto-Johto Elite 4, and a master of the Flying-type. He owns an airport company, shared with his younger brother. He came to the Airship Castelia for a vacation, thinking that nothing would be better for getting out of the stuffy Elite 4 room than battling on a sky-high deck. Despite his skill and money, he has worries about who will succeed him. Aerick himself has no children. His brother is scared of pokemon, and his kids give Aerick little hope.

In his past, he received a Charmander from Professor Oak. This Charmander was an odd specimen caught on Cinnabar for research, but the forgetful old Prof gave it to Aerick. He has done a few things in his life that he isn't proud of, but Aerick is confident that he is stronger than any of the new kids these days. Aerick was born in Saffron City, and in his life has become a Sinnoh Hall of Fame member and has demolished an evil group.

Personality: Aerick is confident in his abilities; He thinks he's been around too long to lose to some kid. Aerick is intelligent, neat, and an expert at combo moves and commanding his pokemon. He knows he is expected to socialize at parties and the like, but that doesn't mean he likes most people's company. He has a rather dark sense of humor, and some people might find him somewhat frightening. He loves flying, and has his own airplane.

Pokemon: Grey, Aerick's first pokemon, is a Charizard that has slate grey coloration everywhere on his top side, where it would be viewed from above. His underside is blue, and he is adept at using Shadow Claw in combination attacks. Aerick's other pokemon are:
Terra. (Aerodactyl). Terra was received from Pewter Museum more than 40 years ago, as a reward for chasing off a group of goons.

Greed. (Drifblim). Greed was Aerick's first capture, and he was caught as a Drifloon. He'd attacked Aerick's younger brother and tried to eat him. Greed is terrified of Grey.

Ryuka (Dragonite). Aerick caught Ryuka in the Dragon's Den. She has mental issues, and was on a rampage. She is Aerick's strongest pokemon.

Twist (Gyarados). Twist is actually Aerick's wife's pokemon. He was an impressively sized Magikarp, and is larger than most Gyarados. Fears of any form of electricity.

Serevre (Gliscor). Serevre is a Dream World pokemon, and has the ability Poison Heal. She is a trickster, and skilled at throwing items.

Name: Joseph and Joshua “The Clones” Antonimous

Age: 15

Gender: Male

Status: Competitor.

Appearance:

Joe and Josh stand tall for their age, at six foot two, and have a pale complexion. They both have messy black hair (though Joshes is approximately an inch longer) and bright, turquoise eyes. They both also have a thin, four-inch long scar on the side of their face (right for Joe, left for Josh) because they were born Siamese.

They usually wear black, sometimes “mixing-it-up” with blue’s, green’s and pinks. They’re never seen without a pair of fingerless gloves (style may vary). They each also have a silver chain around their neck. that has a small, glass phial on it which is said to contain water from the lake of a Lugia. They wear them for good luck.

Personality:
Joe and Josh can be described as nothing more than quirky. Being sarcastic at times, happy-go-lucky at others, and downright insane normally on a rare occasion, people generally don’t know what they’re thinking. They differ in several ways, however; Josh is the more protective and dominant, sticking up for Joe and anyone else whom he admires. He is also more brutal, retorting to violence quicker than Joe would. Joe, on the other hand, may appear harmless, but watch out; this rose has thorns. If something really gets on his nerves, even Josh, his temper will gain control and he will lash out. They both have a, seemingly random, hate of Abomasnow.

History:
Joe and Josh were born in Snowpoint City, in Sinnoh. Their mother owned a large manor house, so it’s safe to say they had a slightly privileged childhood. Their mother was also the Snowpoint Gym leader, and their sister, Candice, would take over for her when she retired, which they all thought, but never voiced, would be soon, due to their Mother‘s breast cancer.

They lived a happy childhood, often donning their Dowsing Machine Apps and searching through the deep snow for interesting and rare objects with their Mother‘s Purugly, Flees, until one day, when they were almost ten, they came across a horrific scene; a Glaceon, with a deep gash on it’s side, and being advanced on by an Abomasnow.

Of course, they ordered Flees to attack the behemoth, and the Purugly soon had it fleeing for it’s life. Once the immediate threat was gone, they turned their attention to the injured Glaceon, who was now, quite remarkably, standing.

They approached her, hands out, and tried to explain that they wanted to take her home and heal her, but the Glaceon shook her head, teeth clenched, and began to stagger towards the bushes, blood dripping from her open wound. Joe and Josh just stood and stared for a moment, until the Glaceon looked back at them and said “Glace! Glaceon!” urgently. They knew she wanted them to follow her. But what, they wondered, was more important than saving her life? But, nevertheless, they followed her.

It soon became apparent what was so important, however, when they were clear of the bushes and saw a nest, with three eggs in it; she wanted them to care for the eggs, because she thought she was going to die.

Well, Joe and Josh weren’t about to let a Pokemon die, so they each took an egg, Josh placing the third on Flees back, so it could stay warm in her fur, but Joe also gently picked up the Glaceon and laid it on Flees back, too.

They rushed home, and into the Pokemon Centre. Candice was there, and after asking a few, short and quick questions about what had happened, allowed Nurse Joy to take the Glaceon into surgery.

As Candice waited in the waiting room, Joe, Josh and Flees took the eggs home, explaining to their mother what had happened and where Candice was. They made a haphazard, fluffy nest for the eggs, consisting of beanbag chairs, blankets and snuggies, and then they, as well as their mother, returned to the Pokemon Centre.

They walked back into the Waiting Area, and saw both Candice and Nurse Joy, apparently waiting for them. After telling them to sit and offering them tea, which Joe and Josh politely refused, Nurse Joy began to explain.

Apparently, whatever attack that Abomasnow had used had cut too deep into the Glaceon’s flesh, and had subsequently damaged several of her vital organs beyond repair, and that she was currently on life support, but they didn’t have enough power to keep it on for long.

Joe and Josh reeled from the blow, this story the root of their hate of Abomasnow. After signing several documents (the Glaceon was a wild Pokemon, so they had to make it seem like she belonged to them, or the Sinnog Government wouldn’t pay for the medical care she’d received) and allowed Nurse Joy to pull the plug…

The eggs hatched several weeks later, by which time they’d each also picked an egg and planned what they were going to do. Joe and Josh were going to go to Kanto and begin their journey with one of they young Eevee’s each. Candice would keep the third, training it up and evolving it into Glaceon.

Joe and Josh took a ship to Kanto, directly to Pallet Town, and received a Bulbasaur and Charmander from Professor Oak respectively. They travelled together, but chose different paths; Joe, contests, and Josh, Gym Battles. (They also spent several months training and learning Martial Arts at the Saffron Dojo, and thus are easily capable of defending themselves.)

They caught many Pokemon through their journey through Kanto, and each reached their respective finals. However, they didn’t exactly…. “do well.” Joe lost his first battle stage in the Grand Festival, and Josh only made it to the final thirty-two in the Kanto League, Neither were deterred, however, so they returned for a visit home, and then visited Johto.

It was when they retuned from Johto, however, when something else happened; their mother died, her Cancer finally taking over.

Both boys were distraught, being only twelve at the time. Candice, of course, took over the Gym after the funeral, and Joe and Josh, still being underage, needed to find a guardian to adopt them.

It was then that their mother’s sister, Pricilla, offered to adopt them. They agreed, liking their aunt very much, and moved in with her.

She lived in Snowpoint also, but in a smaller house than the manor, which was now being put up for sale (Candice lived above the gym.) After wallowing in misery for a few months, Pricilla talked Joe and Josh into continuing their journey.

They explored Hoenn, and then their own home turf, Sinnoh, progressing further and further in the Grand Festival’s and Pokemon League’s progressively. They’ve been living at home for about a year, not having the inspiration to go and explore the new land of Unova yet.

Female

Once was Joe‘s first Pokemon. She hatched from an egg that he and Josh took home, along with two others, when their mother, a Glaceon, was killed by an Abomasnow. They‘ve been the best of friends for almost five years now. She is extremely loyal, and graceful in battle.

~Ivy~
Female

Joe chose Ivy as his starter Pokemon when he and Josh started their journey through Kanto. She was his second ever Pokemon. Ivy was extremely shy to begin with, but once she saw Joe and Once playing in a field, she plucked up the courage to go and join them. She is still slightly shy to this day, but can often get over it.

~Serpico~
Male

Found on the way to Cerulean City. Not a very interesting story; Joe saw him, battled him, and caught him. He likes to scare people. A lot.

~Drakainai~
Female

Joe met Drakie in Hoenn, just outside of Sootopolis City. She was trying to fend off a pack of Sharpedo at the time, and failing miserably until Josh called out his Wailord to disperse them. She was badly injured, so Joe caught her and took her to a Pokemon Centre, planning on releasing her when she was healed. As it turns out, the Sharpedo did some serious damage, and, according to Nurse Joy, she wouldn‘t survive in the wild, so Joe decided to keep her. She‘s very affectionate, and doesn’t like battling much.

~Daigo~
Technically genderless, but is referred to as male

Caught as a Beldum who was stubbornly attached to the space station‘s wall in Mosdeep City. It was causing communication errors, until Joe coaxed it off with a few of his home-made Poffins. Daigo is thought to be very elderly for a Metagross, as his body has rusted slightly. He has a very short temper.

Joe received Cruxis from a trade, in return for his old Blaziken. He was untrusting of Joe to start with, but soon came around.

Female

Once was Joshes first Pokemon. She hatched from an egg that he and Joe took home, along with two others, when their mother, a Glaceon, was killed by an Abomasnow. They‘ve been the best of friends for almost five years now. She‘s quite lazy, and likes to make people happy, usually by singing.

~Charming~
Male

Josh chose Charming as his starter Pokemon when he and Joe started their journey through Kanto. He was his second ever Pokemon. Due to his shiny colouration, Charming was extremely haughty and proud, thinking himself better than all other Charmanders. He still kept this attitude up until Josh challenged the Pewter Gym, where he had to drop it and listen to Joshes commands or be flattened by an Onix. Charming is, nowadays, very loyal and proud, not responding well to insults.

Male

Josh caught Fluffy while he was terrorizing a family, swimming on the shores of Olivine City. He thinks the nickname is kinda “cute.” Fluffy kinda hates him.

~Data~
Technically genderless, but is referred to as male

Josh just found and caught Data. Nothing really special. Data‘s quite mischievous and likes to make random sound effects to scare people.

~Padfoot~
Male

Caught as Joshes second Pokemon in Hoenn, the first being his starter. Padfoot is very arrogant, and when he barks, it sounds like a laugh.

Female

Traded as a Trapinch for Joshes Gastly. She doesn‘t like new people and is quite shy.​

Oh. I was just going to change him if E4s were completely banned. I thought that since the events of Unova are already around ten years after the last time you see the Kanto-Johto E4, it would be fine, since it was shown that members can change within 3-5 years, from RGY to GSC events. Added to that, he's on vacation, so naturally there would be a replacement.

If you think about it this way, I don't see any conflict with canon. I'll still change it if you want.

Also, now that I know naming for pokemon is allowed, I'll probably do that and give them little backstories (I already had those elsewhere, I just didn't know if you'd be wanting me to waste space on them).
