I am sorry if a thread like this already exists, but the advanced search function won't work, plus I can't see white text on white background that the basic search function, but I digress.

I was watching Pokemon 3 the Movie with the commentary on, and they talked about him, but the only thing they said was that their (the writer and the writer/director's) Japanese counterparts said that Ash's father was going to be shown in season 5. Now I haven't seen that much of the Johto era of the show, so I haven't been able to see if that happened.

Did they show Ash's father in season 5 (I'm assuming that's Pokemon Master Quest) of the anime? If so, which episode? If not, do you think they ever will, and why should (or shouldn't) they?

Its 4kids being baseless idiots. Ash's father was never intended to be shown because its not important in the slightest.

This is the same 4kids that made up a bunch of random crap in the early seasons.

I always think of this picture when I hear Ash's father mentioned

While it would be nice, I don't see why it's so important. He'll just get shoved off to the side like his mom does.

I can picture the father being revealed after ash finally wins a pokemon league. The episode couldnt just be like "yeah I won and im going back home and everyone is happy". Something interesting would have to happen, and I can definitely picture it happening and fitting in with the rest of the final episode.

The only guy who could have passed for his father was that Silver guy with Chikorita, he appeared in the last Richie special which had Moltres in it.

Richie said he knew Ash, and Silver was like, "Hm, Ash?!" as if he knew him.

Sadly the guy never appeared again after the specials died...so oh well!

Why? We have NO information about him. It's like making a page about Dawn's father. :|

As for the topic, I really couldn't care less if Satoshi's dad showed up or not. He's so insignificant and so underhyped that's for me personally he's just a mere afterthought. If Satoshi's lack of a visible dad ever actually affected him then maybe I would be more interested but at the moment I don't think it would be worth the bother.

I wouldn't want Ash's father to appear, either. It would spoil one of the anime's biggest mysteries. (And judging from the opinions of people outside the fandom, it'sone of anime in general's biggest mysteries, kyu.)

Ash's father has been in the show since the beginning: Professor Oak.
Nonsense. Dawn is his father, kyu.

Years ago I used to think Red of the games was Ash's father... -.-

Great! So I'm not the only one? Haha

Anyhow, I would like to find out who he is for no other reason than to satisfy my own curiosity. That said, at the same time, I really DON'T want to find out, because it would ruin the mystery. I feel like if we found out, then it would end up being anticlimactic not matter who it turned out to be.

I feel like there is no reason for a divorce. It could be possible that Ash's father is around just not on screen because of business or pokemon or something. I guess they can make him the champion of kanto. But Silver makes the most sense to me.

It is possible that Ash's father is nobody note worthy and he is adopted

The only thing known about Mr. Ketchum is he is a Pokemon Trainer on a journey. I still want to see his face

What for? He'd just look like some random older guy.

Why do you think they never showed Misty's parents, or Dawn's father, etc? Its simply because it doesn't matter, and isn't something that needs to be shown. Same deal for Ash's father.

Assuming Ash would actually recognise him, I'd think a lingering pan of the stands in his match against a champion would be the most logical place for it to happen. Ash is in a bad position in the match, looks up to the stands, sees old travelling partners, assorted gym leaders/frontier brains and Professors, but also catches a glimpse of his Dad and freaks out. If he then threw him down a Light Ball it would be nice (they really have to bring that up at some point)

I hope it isn't the Giovanni twist, as much as it would add to an epic showdown battle with Ash and Team Rocket, or provide a motivation for Team Rocket's creation (Ash wanted to meet all the Pokemon in the world, so he decided to steal them all to make it happen); it is about the most clichéd plot device there is (besides having an 'evil' organisation which wants to take over the world that is).

How did that line from Silver go in the Japanese version of the episode? Considering how bad those episodes were dubbed, I wouldn't rely on them as evidence there was any connection.

I think it is important it does eventually happen - not until they are nearly finished with Ash as a character, but unlike the missing fathers of a lot of other characters, he has been mentioned - and the explanation that they would only introduce as part of character development lends it to happening very near the end of Ash's 'Master Quest' as it were - when he finally gets close to his goal.
