Looking at the current National Pokedex as it stands, I believe there could be a major overhaul it. Especially after the gen IV evolution upstates and now with Gen VII coming out will inflate probably to over 800 pokemon. Do you think that all the updated evolutions should be pared with their original?

How would the pokemon company theoretically go about it anyway? With Pokebank, it would obviously make it more complicated, but with the new geeeration coming out it seems more and more burdensome to expand the list by generation rather than say by type (roughly considering that some pokes lose their original type by evolution) and then generation added, for instance.

What do you think or am I just crazy?
 
I like what you say, but I also prefer to have the dex set the way it is now. However, I do believe they should change the dex so you can sort it how you would like it (i.e. Type/Evolutions/Height blah blah etc.).

The regional dex is normally sorted by evolution so that's alright I guess...
 
The only bit that seems weird to me is that they never retconned the two Nidoran species into being the same Pokémon but with gender differences, especially now that we have a sexually dimorphic Pokémon with tangible differences (Meowstic).

Of course, it's probably too late now, and it would require them to either introduce a new standalone Pokémon into the Kanto Pokédex or to shift every subsequent Pokémon down by one index number. Not that *I* think that would be a problem, but it's the kind of thing that I can see them viewing as series sacrilige.

I just recently put together a listing that mixes the HGSS!Johto and ORAS!Hoenn Pokédexes to start with, adding on the rest of the regions in order by generation (with cross-gen evolutions repositioned appropriately), with the thirty Pokémon banned under Battle Maison rules listed last (Arceus being listed dead last).

The ordering is similar to the current National Pokédex in that it mostly sorts Pokémon by generation. This can be justified as sorting them by their native region in the order in which the regions joined either the Pokémon nation or the Pokémon League (with the latter especially making more sense in the case of Kanto and Johto). As for listing the "banned" Pokémon last, it makes little sense to intersperse them with the regular Pokémon when their use in battle, and possibly even capture in the first place, seems to be considered unsportsmanlike at best, and perhaps even morally and ethically wrong at worst. Arceus, being the creation deity, should always be listed last.

Actually I could get down with ordering all Starters first by gen. Maybe make Victini 0 again (I don't like how that became not as big of a thing thanks to the national dex) and the Pikachu line and the Pikaclones and Eevee and the Eeveelutions immediately after the starters, also by gen (besides Pichu). Then just the gen by by gen dex with later introduced evos and prevos listed by their placement in their evolution lines, then the Pseudo Legends near the bottom, then the actual Legends, then the Mythicals, and finally Mew, Mewtwo, the Lake Guardians, the the Creation Trio, and Arceus last in that order.
 
I'd not only move all the evolutions and prevolutions to be with their first family member in the dex (maybe I'd move Roselia to be with Budew and Roserade rather than move them to be with it) but I'd go possibly a bit more dramatic and retcon Nidoran into one Pokemon, with Male and Female being just an example of gender differences and a branched evolution.

Oh and get rid of Incense!
 
I would have no problem with listing evolution lines together but perhaps they don't want what generation a Pokemon is from to be confused.
