According to previews, Yakon's gym is nearer than before. We all know what happened to the "Quake" move. In the light of current environment in Japan, what do you think will happen to the "Quake Badge"?

I don't see any reason why it would change. Why would GameFreak name it the Quake Badge if severe earthquakes occur in Japan frequently?

Anime and GameFreak works in a different manner: Porygon get evolved forms in spite of his banning from the show. Earthquake move is still in use for the games, but it's currently unexistent in the anime.

Re: About Yukon's badge...

Wow, this is some food for thought and I'm pigging out.

Um, I guess they could change it, but it's a badge name that would probably only be said a few times or probably only once and I don't think they will change it, but you never know.

Re: About Yukon's badge...

They might keep the name but not allude to its origin. I don't know. Who knows what the Anime's going to do?

Re: About Yukon's badge...

I'm more curious if the gym battle itself is going to be changed. Then again, I dunno when they started working on the episode. Wasn't sure if there were any Earthquakes originally planned in it.

Re: About Yukon's badge...

I doubt they will change the name. The Quake Badge will be mentioned a couple of times, so most kids won't be aware of the origin of the name.

Like said before, they'll probably just rarely mention the name of the badge itself.

Re: About Yukon's badge...

One thing worth remembering is that the word "quake" isn't a commonly known English word among the show's target audience in Japan. They can probably get away with keeping it the same since so few people will get the reference.

It takes about six months from the time they start work on an episode to the time it airs. The earthquake / tsunami took place on March 11th, so we're right at the point, give or take a few weeks, where the first post-Tohoku earthquake episodes are starting to air. The Yakon episodes will be made with the victims of the Tohoku earthquake in mind.

Knowing how the whole Whiscash/Earthquake episode was omitted due to the same kinda thing, I sure hope they don't just skip right over the whole thing and do some kind of stupid (you saved my life, here's a badge) kinda thing.

Some of you guys are being too irrational here. It isn't like the word "quake" or anything remotely connected with earthquakes are considered a highly taboo subject that should be shunned by society at large. As long as they handle it sensibly then it would be fine. Actual earthquakes onscreen is considered bad taste, but a ground type gym leader is still fine.

Part of the healing process is accepting that stuff like this does happen and then moving onward.

Also, the word for Earthquake is 地震 (Jishin). "Quake badge" is still English over there. And Clay's special move is Bulldoze, anyway.

And as stated earlier, Japan is so seismically active.

Nothing's going to change about this. Not there, and not here.

The issue here is the visual effect of the Earthquake, I don't see a problem with the name of the badge lol.

And again, whatever episodes Yakon appears in will be made with the Tohoku victims in mind. They're not going to spend the time and money to animate something they know will never make it to the air. If they think seeing the move Earthquake will be too much, too soon, then they just won't have anyone in the show use it. Simple as that.
