A while back, I filled in a template for video game reviews, and then I happened to come across a Pokemon version.

I do not have a fixed favourite Pokemon, it usually changes every few months to a different set. And it is never really one Pokemon. These four are my current favourites at the moment.

I just abhor Alolan Persian, it's literally one of two designs in the whole series that I just cannot take seriously. The stupidly large head, the fact it's really just a recolour from the original otherwise, there is nothing I like about that design. But what makes it so irredeemable, that makes it worse than every other design I don't like, is the fact that it's expression looks like it is taunting the viewer. It looks like "oh yes, I'm the worst designed species in the whole franchise, it's too bad you don't like me", and it frustrates me so much whenever I look at it. It is because of that I'll never use one. Don't come replying to me that "oh, Alolan Persian could be useful in this situation" I made it very clear I refuse to use anything I cannot take seriously, even if it's good in battle.
That said, I like regular Persian. I've used it before and enjoyed it because of the ability Technician, and in the games before that, I thought it was good for outspeeding otherwise threatening opponents or to get more cash with Pay day.

Platinum was my first game, but HGSS was the first game I completed and I don't even remember what I actually picked first in Platinum. And I took a very, very long time to decide on picking Totodile. I thought I was gonna regret it, but thanks to Ice fang which hit both Grass types and half of the champion's team super effectively, I never did.

Not counting the red Gyarados, and various mystery gift shinies, a shiny Trumbeak in Ultra Moon was the first legit shiny I ever got. I wasn't trying to find a shiny, but without any boosts whatsoever, I found one while grinding my team. I did evolve it and Toucannon has a great shiny too.

From the first shiny I legitamately got to the first shiny I used in a nuzlocke. And even then, Shiny Cetitan looks great as well. I like how it resembles a killer wha with that recolour.

The two BW1 mascots are some of my top favourite Pokemon ever. I like Reshiram slightly more, but both of them are excellent because their concepts and designs are very interesting to look into.

I don't know about you guys, but Slurpuff is definitely the latest addition to my favourite Pokemon list. I don't know if I enjoyed using before, but in my playthrough of an XY ROM hack I played recently, I was very much impressed by how it's stats were excellent at everything and it could learn just about any move possible. And spoiler alert, it's in my ZA nuzlocke as well, and in that run, it was the only user of certain coverage types I had. Please never sleep on this living desert, guys. I'm sure it would have become more popular in nuzlockes if it was slightly more common.

I don't see many people talking about Palossand, and whenever I do, it's people insulting it. Whereas I'm kinda surprised it's not a popular Pokemon. I mean, a living sandcastle sounds like an ingenious idea for anything! And it's been excellent in battle every time I tried using it. It's definitely a challenge to raise it's pre evo, but once it evolves, you'll have something that takes hits for days and deals massive damage with Shado ball and Earth power. It was one of my best team members the first time I played Gen7, and it literally saved my team in my Ultra Sun nuzlocke. With only half of my team left for the rival, my sandcastle, with the help of some stat boosters, solo'd the final battle of the main story.

I don't know if Kleavor is exactly popular, but I'm sure there aren't many who dislike it, and I think I know why: it looks like a design that tries way too hard to be awesome. So much so to the point it doesn't even make sense. The arms are way too small to support and carry those giant axes, and there is no reason for a bug to randomly have facial hair. Kleavor's design pretty much tries way too hard to be good, and as a result, it's bad. It doesn't even look like it would be able to function in real life, can you imagine this stick-armed bug throwing around axes bigger than itself? How is it even supposed to realistically carry them? I know I feel kinda bad because I used an excellent natured Kleavor in my Legends Arceus run, he destroyed so much and was one of my best team members. But Kleavor is easily one of my absolute least favourite designs in the whole franchise for the reasons I mentioned before.

While I don't think much about legendaries, I do like almost all of them, and I accept the rest of them. But I do find the Lake trio slightly forgettable, and Mesprit having overly balanced stats makes it the least interesting of the set, but I still don't mind it otherwise. That said, Deoxys is definitely my second least favourite, very close behind in fact. Again, I don't have that much against Deoxys, but it and its form's designs make me feel very uncomfortable for some reason.

As for types, it's neat how Electric has only one weakness and can paralyze opponents, and I really like many designs from that type. Water used to be my first choice for starters, but it is still one of my favourite types because of the massive variety of them. And I just simply like a lot of Dark type designs.

I accept that all types can be good in some way or another. Normal is simply the least good in my opinion. I mean I like how it can be really versatile in terms of movepools, but that doesn't apply to all Normal types. And most of the time I find myself using Normal Pokemon, it's usually the route 1 Normal Pokemon that are great for early game, dual typed Normal mons, or the one that are cosidered the best Normal Pokemon in general.
That said, I think Dubwool might be the only reason Normal is my least. Literally used it three times, none of them were successful. And I used many Pokemon that other people considered 'underwhelming' but enjoyed using regardless. And Dubwool is a genuine example of a rare Normal mon that doesn't have a versatile moveset. It's really a shame because I think it has a great design otherwise.

Please keep in mind the concept and origin of the original Pokemon when designing a mega or regualar evo or alternate form for it. Isn't Starmie's whole deal that it's a space based starfish that's like the stars in the sky? Why does it randomly grow long legs and have no other changes to it's design in it's latest mega form? I mean I think I know a bit of what they were trying to do with Mega Starmie's design, but they should have just used the whole "space mon tries acting humalike" deal to someone else. Maybe for a Mega Beheeyem, perhaps? But definitely not a tarfish literally running on it's legs. It is somewhat amusing, it does not change the fact it's also disappointing. And in hindsight, Starmie was one of the important bosses in the first game, and had some competitive prescence in the past, so they probably should have at least tried a somewhat seeious mega evo at least. My least favourite pre-ZA mega evo was probably Slowbro's. Much like the gen8 fossils, I don't really like designs that look like the mon is suffering.

It is thanks to a nuzlocke ruleset that I knew exactly the origin of Mega Skarmory's design. And the design itself looks great too, the recolour looks excellent. And I also did use one and had a lot of fun using what was a fast version of Skarmory. And Eelektross' mega also has an excellent design. It improved on the original while adding more fitting elements, that's whaf a mega design should be looking like! Overall a top notch design, and if only ZA had abilities.
My favourite pre-ZA mega was, and is still up there, Absol's. The design look very interesting and it also adds fitting details to the design. It was also a great thing to use Absol with a speed stat that went alongside it's high attack, but they really should not have gotten rid of Super luck. Magic bounce feels more like a defensive ability, not quite synergetic on Mega Absol's low defenses.

I'm sure my very first favourite is a repeat answer, so I'll instead talk about a mon that was my favourite at one point. I remember being very, very fond of Araquanid when gen7 first came out. I really liked it's design and it had great stats, movepool, and ability. And it's still one of my favourites nowadays as well. I get reminded how great it is in battle every time I use one and it's always been reliable.

Gen5 is my favourite, and Chandelure's my favourite from that generation. It was excellent the first time I used one. After my Darumaka died outside the Flying gym based Hustle, I went to the graveyard tower to get a new Fire type, and I did not expect to eventually get what would be the MVP of that run. That Chandelure was unkillable to any attack possible and hit really hard in return. This superb experience also made me really like it's design. Used it many times since and always enjoyed so.

So what do you all think?

was this a thread to share everyone's opinions, or was this just for yours? (neat choices btw; I love slurpuff too !!)

I have Alexithymia, so "favourites" and "least favourites" can be a bit difficult, especially in areas that I don't really think about much (like shinies) but I can scrounge up enough of an opinion to fill these out.

Favourite: This one is uncontested though, I love Salamence and it's Prevos. I adore dragons, mythical beasts unchained by anything flying across the land, sharp fangs and claws, wonderful wings, and thrashing tails. I wish I could be one. Salamence is, besides Spyro, the "platonic ideal" of a dragon to me: quadrupedal, big wings and tail, fangs and claws, and, it's also The Transgender Dragon. Bagon's Pokedex entries talk about how it throws itself off of cliffs in hopes of one day flying, and that because of that dream it holds on so tightly to, its body evolves and changes to be able to fly, and then Salamence's dex entries, especially lately, talk about how overjoyed it is to finally be able to fly- it never stops! Dreaming of flying and your body changing because of it has always struck a chord with me, being free and being able to be who you really are, it feels like an analogy for transitioning.

Unfavourite: I don't really like, abjectly hate any Pokemon honestly, I look at every one in existence and I can think of some arguement as to why someone would like it- if you'd have asked me like a year ago I'd probably be swearing and screaming about a few but, I've mellowed out a bit over the course of 2025. However I don't like Cacti. So I really don't like Maractus and Cacturne, they are the exceptions. Besides Urshifu.

First Starter: I got a GBA as a hand-me-down from a parent's friend's child. Got Super Mario World Advance, Super Mario Bros 3 Advance, Pokemon Emerald, and a bunch of miscillanious stuff like Monsters Inc for the GBC. At some point I restarted the Emerald save and chose Mudkip, don't really have memories with it besides never getting past Rival 2, and trying to catch a Ditto that turned into Rayquaza before I wiped the save and being extremely disappointed that I didn't get a 2nd Rayquaza after how long it took. I was a wee babe.

First Shiny (besides the Red Gyarados): I almost caused a Car Crash with this one. Let me set the scene: Summer break between Grades 5 & 6, parents recently divorced, my grandparents were helping me and my father move into the apartment we were gonna live in that was across the city, I was playing Pokemon Diamond (I never got Platinum, I didn't know about version differences then), in the Pastoria Marsh, the Shiny Wooper shows up and I react and because of that, my grandma who was driving jerks the wheel in surprise, and then when I caught it, I made had a louder reaction as my grandma was going through a 4 way intersection. Fortunately no-one was harmed, but it was close. Jane Doe as I named her, is still in that Diamond Save, which as far as I'm aware never got past the Elite Four.

Fav Shiny: Mentioned it off-handedly earlier but I don't really think about Shinies much, they're more an "Oh shoot, cool." to me these days (and also the reason I haven't beaten Legends Arceus). So I just kinda, scrolled through the Pokedex and picked some I think look better than their Non-Shiny variants. I've seen Non-Shiny Mons so much being a fan of the series most of my life that most Shinies kinda just feel like, off, to me. But, the three I listed, Mega Gardevoir, Tyranitar, and Hisuian Zoroark, I think they look better than their Non-Shiny counterparts. The blue and black on Mega Gardevoir is beautiful, and also just two colours that go together very well, and for Tyranitar and Hisuian Zoroark.. I just like purple more than red.

Fav Legendary/Mythical: I like Jormungandr/Ouroboros a lot. That's what Zygarde 50% is. Eternatus is kinda-similar to that but it's also just, really freaking cool. They're also both Dragons, and I love Dragons. There isn't really anything deeper than that. I also really like The Teal Mask, so of course I love the star of the show, Ogrepon is wonderful. Dangerous daughter.

Unfav Shiny: Toothpaste Zygarde is an eyesore, the white is blinding and contrasts with the mint green, especially compared to its original black/lime green colours. Shiny Wyrdeer is the worst possible shade of yellow-green that could've been chosen, like someone pissed on Shiny Stantler. Grinch looking thing, someone call Carol Holiday. Not a topic I feel too strongly about, but these two are pretty bad compared to their Non-Shiny colours.

You love, everyone hates: I'm gonna be honest I don't really keep my pulse on the current zeitgiest of popular/unpopular, so I'm more going at this from a like, "underrated/underappreciated/needs more love" kinda angle. I don't know why I like Carnivine, it's really bad, it's not the most unique design. Maybe I just think Venus Fly Traps are cool and that it deserves an evolution, there was one in a fangame I played once (didn't really enjoy) that made it a Grass/Water named Carnivile, something like that would be neat, I like "vi" words. I don't know if its ever changed, but the opinion I remember most people holding about Sigilyph was "Why wasn't this a Unown evolution?" and like, nothing to actually do with the Pokemon itself- its cool! It has Magic Guard which automatically gives it points to me, an especially cool aspect of it in B2W2 since you can get a Life Orb right around when you get Sigilyph and pretty easily at that. Also I think that it learning Ice Beam is appealing, gets other fun and unexpected things like Flash Cannon and Energy Ball. Try it out sometime!

You hate, everyone loves: Again I can't say I really "hate" any Pokemon besides the aforementioned three, but, Snom just gives me the squick. I know people find it cute and stuff, it just bugs me (pununintended). Not "hate" just, not for me. I used to not like Garchomp out of a sort of, vendetta, because it's always been better than Salamence competitively, but then I tried using it once in a fangame and like, yeah I get why people like the chomper now.

First Fav Pokemon: Hasn't changed baybee, but Roaring Moon is Salamence-Adjacent so it's like my 2nd, tangential.

I decided to change "A Random Pokemon" to "Fav NPC" since, I think the former topic is a bit of a copout. I love Carmine. Both in a "Have you seen a more beautiful woman?" sense and also in a "She completely stole the show in Teal Mask" sense. I haven't played ZA yet so I haven't met Jacinthe, but a comment about her describes my love for Carmine pretty well: "Sure she's self-centred, but that's a pretty beautiful self to be centred about" and like, yeah. She's also just like, a person? She has flaws; selfishness, not the greatest sibling, short temper, sees herself above others- those flaws don't go away by the end of The Indigo Disk, they're apart of her, but she still shows growth by warming up more to outsiders, and still clearly cares about her brother and does so in a very imperfect but human manner. Also she's tall.

Bringing up how glad you are that you've met someone and talking about how much you miss them is not "just friends" behaviour, source: my girlfriend.

Fav Type: Of course its Dragon, I love Dragons, they're so bloody cool!! Salamence, Roaring Moon, Baxcalibur, Hydreigon, Kommo-o, Goomy, Haxorus, Garchomp, Rayquaza, Zygarde, Eternatus, Kyurem, Dragapult, Tyrantrum, Ultra Necrozma, Nanagandel- I love me some Dragons.

Fav Fossil: T-Rexes are cool as hell, there was a post on BSky talking about how naming the Tyrannosaurus Rex the Tyrannosaurus Rex was the biggest called shot anyone has ever made, because a cooler dinosaur still hasn't been found. What if it was also a Dragon. Tyrantrum rules. Rampardos is bad but really funny in Single-Player, used it when I played Platinum and very few things don't immediately collapse after being hit by it, and the Speed issues don't matter as much when you don't gotta worry about EVs and IVs and all'hat.

Unfav Legendary/Mythical. Screw this stupid Bear. Stupid 5.99$ USD Fighting Game DLC Pokemon. I did not like Isle of Armour, which compounded my dislike for SwSh. Wicked Blow & Unseen Fist are so unbelievably stupid, and this is the same generation that has Gorilla Tactics and Fishous Rend. I do not like Urshifu, this is the only Pokemon I can say I actively dislike purely because of it as a Pokemon, rather than external factors.

Unfav Type: I don't really have a type that I dislike, they all have their boons and flaws, but, I am a bit miffed at Fairy, since it exists purely to Be The Best Type to knock Dragon down from that pedastal because of Gen 5. Fairy does give Steel & Poison more use, but its like, just a better Psychic, and also why does it resist Bug. I dislike that Fairy was added in the way that it was for the reason it was, but I'm like, fine with the type as a whole.

Fav Mega: Megamence is there because I'm bias, it is a bit goofy looking but, it gives my babygirl Flying STAB so it's a-okay in my book! Mega Aggron is just like, cool, what if we had More Aggron- it's also I think like, a Mega that actively fixes issues a Pokemon has- Pure Steel is way better than Rock/Steel defensively, plus giving it Filter to further leverage those Pure Steel Defenses. Intimidate is a good ability, both Salamence and Mawile don't have to Mega Evolve immediately because of how good Intimidate is, in the same fangame I used Garchomp in, I also used Mega Mawile in, and, Mawile on her own can carry great distances because of Intimidate, but then getting a useable attack stat PLUS Huge Power upon Mega? Just a very fun mega. Speaking of Huge Power and fun megas, Starmie. I'm in the camp of "this thing is so unbelievably stupid, I love it." I have not played ZA yet but when I do, I'm getting me one of those.

Unfav Mega: I don't like the designs of the Mega Latis, the arms rotating like old toy robots just makes me uncomfortable, like their forearms should snap off of their body. Also they're like The Same and I think that sucks. Mega Sharpedo is just, something I'll never use. I am in the "Speed Boost Destiny Bond Sharpedo" fanclub, and using Mega Sharpedo is in the complete other direction of that. Again, not many mons I feel very strong negative feelings about.

Mons from Fav Region: Scarlet and Violet would be my favourite Pokemon games if they weren't Scarlet and Violet, the Open World Does Not Work At All, but the characters, the designs, the music, the story- those're peak. But Paldea as a region is empty, bland, and boring to traverse. Just gimmie routes and caves and ice sliding puzzles and block pushing puzzles back. And I think Baxcalibur is emblematic of that daichotomy to me, really fun mon to use, Dragon Dance Loaded Dice Scale Shot Icicle Spear is a fantastic set, I love its cry and how it's inspired by an infamous/meme scene from Godzilla. But oh my god its just so like, incomplete? its bald? it's like one of those "Peeled Pokemon" but its already peeled. It's stiffer than a corpse in all its animations and photos, standing as awkward as I do whenever I'm out in public, and those stupid weird red flappy bits on its hand. It's so peak, yet simultaneously bleak, just like Paldea. I'm also counting Sinistcha and Kitakami here as a separate region from Paldea, Carmine and Ogerpon are wonderful, so so so much better than The Isle of Armour. It does still carry Paldea's Open World problems though. Unova is great, it was great, it's still great, I love B1W1 having Only Unovan Pokemon, the story is a bit less interesting these days than it used to be, especially since one of the first things you see Team Plasma do is kick a Munna, but they're still phenomenal packages. Iris is the perfect champion to send the 2D Era off (as much as I want it back). There's so many camera angle changes and environmental shots, they still feel like the culmination of years of experience developing Pokemon. Also Orre has no pokemon exclusive to it so I can't answer with that whoops.

Hope I spoilered everything properly!
