This is my first post, first fan fic. I hope you like it. Wasn't sure if there was a specific thread to put this in, but anyway, here goes:

******

I’ve Never Liked You

Ash Ketchum sat on a lonely river bank all by his lonesome. A yellow Pokemon, a pikachu, sat on his shoulder. Ash ran a hand through his jet black hair and leaned his back against a tree that grew along the river bank. A soft breeze rippled his jacket and teased a few strands of hair that waved back and forth across his eyes. The young trainer from Pallet had something very important on his mind that day.

Surprisingly, this day, Ash’s mind was not on a battle strategy, a Pokemon contest, or how many days he had worn the same boxers in a row. Instead, his mind was on the beautiful brunette that had been traveling with him for a few months by now.

May Maple.

She was absolutely stunning. The lovely brunette wore a red and white specially-designed Hoenn bandana, coupled with a shiny red blouse and tight black spandex shorts to complete the look. Ash blushed just thinking about her, even though his eyes were closed. He loved everything about May; the way her hips swung when she walked, the way she winked whenever she tried to be cute. Even her voice was milky, soft and sweet. It was like honey at its finest, the sweetest sounding thing the human ear could ever hear.

Ash wanted her.

*******

May Maple sat alone on a brown wood picnic bench about 20 feet from the river’s edge. Her chin was placed in both her hands as she leaned forward, her mind flowing in earnest thought. Her brown hair waved in the gentle breeze and her azure eyes seemed to glow in the reflection of the sapphire sky. She shifted her feet softly as she angled her knees together. Though her legs were moving nearly every minute, her gaze had not shifted from where it had been for the last five minutes.

Her deep blue eyes were aimed in the direction of one Ash Ketchum. Ash had been such a wonderful young man to her ever since she had began traveling with him and getting to know him. Sure, they had had their spats and tussles, but they had never amounted to permanent anger. In fact, Ash’s willingness to forgive, forget, and stay the best friends as possible was one of the things she loved the most about the young man.

Secretly, May loved Ash. She had been trying to tell him for some time now, but there was always something that seemed to get in the way. Whether it was her annoying little brother Max, the cunning but foolish Team Rocket, or a Pokemon, it was always something that deterred her from reaching her ultimate goal. Today, though, Max and Brock had both gone on a little hike into the forest. May realized that this was her chance.

“Hey Ash?”

“Oh, hey May! How are you doing? I was starting to get worried about you over there…you were really quiet.”

May smiled, loving how Ash was so concerned about her.

“I’m fine Ash.” May sat with Ash for a moment against the tree. After about five minutes she slowly turned her head to Ash.

“Ashy…I mean Ash…can I ask you something?”

“Sure May, you can ask me anything.” Ash replied.

May paused, blushing a little. ‘Here it comes,’ she thought. ‘The first time I’ve ever admitted my feelings for a guy…’

“Umm…Ash…do you…like me?” May asked, blushing heavily now.

Ash didn’t look at May. “No, I don’t,” he replied.

May was shocked. Tears welled up in her eyelids. This was all a dream…it had to be…it couldn’t go like this! This was just…wrong!

“A-Ash?” she stuttered.

“What May?”

“W-would you wipe my tears away i-if I s-s-started to c-cry?” she whimpered, becoming more upset.

“No.” Ash simply said.

May was fully upset now. Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably. She sniffled, turned around and got up from where she was sitting. ‘I made the biggest mistake in my life!’ She exclaimed to herself, tears still rolling down her cheeks. ‘He…he doesn’t want to even be my friend anymore.’

Her head lowered, May whispered ever so quietly.

“I...If I left you…would you even care? Would you even miss me?”

Ash breathed out. “No, May, I would not miss you.”

May had heard enough. More tears came and she walked back to the picnic bench. She collected her Pokeballs and was about to leave for good, when she felt a strong hand on her shoulder. Another caught her other shoulder, and they both turned her around. Her teary, azure eyes met Ash’s brown, caring eyes.

“May,” Ash stated, a determined look on his face.

“I don’t need to hear it again!” May screamed, trying to pull away. But Ash’s strong hands kept her gaze on his. She looked into his eyes again, her face wet with tears, her eyes tired from loosing them.

“May, I don’t like you…I love you.”

May blushed.

“And sweetheart,” he continued, “If you started to cry, I wouldn’t wipe your tears away.” He paused, kissing a tear drop on May’s face. “I would kiss all your tears away.”

May’s eyes began to tear up again. But this time they were happy tears. She put her arms around Ash’s neck. He put his arms around May’s waist.

“And May, darling…I wouldn’t miss you if you left. I would be devastated.”

May finally smiled, and looked into Ash’s calm, compassionate eyes.

“Oh Ash, I love you too!” she exclaimed, the tears on her face finally drying. The two young lovers embraced, as they had finally been able to tell each other their true feelings.

Hmm. The descriptions were nice, but it just didn't seem in character. Ash isn't all that romantic. He seems rather oblivious to matters of the heart. So to make him into some suave, debonair sort seems rather off.

I can see him taking the question literally, though.

Hmm, this is the first shipping fic I've ever read.

It's not the best I've read, but far from the worst.

Of course, the fact that I'm a HUGE sucker for a good romance story doesn't hurt.

It would have been nice if you'd given things a little more time to develop.

But other than that, good stuff.
