This is the first chapter of my fanfic, and if it's popular enough, then i'll be writing more.

Please comment (good or bad comments) because i'd like to know what you think.

Chapter One

Littleroot Town – Route 101

Towers of boxes shivered as the vehicle lumbered across the first mile of the Hoenn region. Brendan’s family had emigrated from Sinnoh, willing to start a new adventure in an unknown land; it was this wild spirit that was first born in Brendan’s father, who had risen to fame as the Petalburg City gym leader. As a result, he had been working from home for many years, and his son longed to see him in the job he so loved. And why shouldn’t he?

Being a trainer was a joy to behold, but being a gym leader was an honour. Brendan, being the lucky sort, was allowed to sit in the back of the moving van that had tracked some distance from the port. He sat amongst the piles of boxes that had overshadowed him for the duration of the journey, but he began to regret his initial decision. The cardboard containers had been shaken a considerable amount so far; any minute now, he swore they would soon land on him. The bumpy road would soon make sure of that, he mused to himself. Another stone in the wrong place and the tires would soon give way; the bulky monster carrying him would collapse.

Eventually, it reached its destination. The back door slid upwards and a beam of midday sun slanted in, striking Brendan in the face. I’m finally here. I can’t wait to see dad.

“Brendan! Where are you honey?!”

He instantly recognised the shriek of his mother, loud as always. “Oh, Brendan darling, I’m glad you’ve made it! I’ve been so worried!”

“M-mum, you shouldn’t have.”

“But darling, when I came to our new house in advance, I was worried that you wouldn’t make it. I mean, the truck could have overturned, or fell off a bridge, or been crushed by an avalanche.”

“Well, I’m in one piece.”

Circling round, she joined her hands together in praise of the fresh, new building that was to become their home. Sure, the shift from the urban grandeur of Jubilife City to the tiny, rural settlement of Littleroot Town would take some getting used to, but Brendan’s mother was convinced –

“This shall be our new way of life!”

Her son had definitely heard this remark many, many times over, but no matter how much he heard the phrase, Caroline still retained that cheery, yet piercing tone. There weren’t many people to talk to in this town; the population was scarce, and anything that was remotely exciting very rarely happened. If Brendan’s family were to stay by this interpretation of Littleroot, though, they would soon be proven wrong – very wrong.

The front door swung open as mother and son entered the living room – son skulked in, mother swept in. A team of Vigoroth scurried about, heaving furniture and crates with relative ease. One of the evil-looking monkeys surfaced defiantly into Brendan’s view. The boy leapt backwards with fright; the stern faced creature inspected him suspiciously, and then scurried past the onlookers, continuing with his work. Still wracked with shock, Brendan staggered over to the sofa. Unbeknownst to him, as soon as he was about to rest his weight, two more of the Pokemon removed the piece of furniture from its original position.

When Caroline turned round, the first thing she saw was her son, scrambling about on the floor like a helpless Squirtle on its back. Her answer to the situation was less than supportive. “Oh, just think! You might be playing with your own Pokemon some day.”

Playing? Depends on how you define the word. Besides, I don’t really like Pokemon…

“Oh, of course, I haven’t introduced you to the neighbours yet!” Neighbours? This place keeps getting better and better. “Come along, aren’t you excited?”

Brendan emerged from the building and peered nervously round the corner. A bright eyed girl in her teens, dressed in the attire of a Pokemon trainer, rushed towards the newcomers in pure interest. “Hi how are you doing!?” All her energy seemed to erupt at once. “Oh, I’m so glad to see you. I’ve been so excited! I mean the son of Norman, the great Petalburg gym leader! I mean come on! When does anyone get an opportunity like this!? Oh, how are you doing?”

Brendan was afraid her topics of conservation would keep going round and round until he found a chance to intercept. “Um, uh… h-hello…”

“OH, HOW ARE YOU?!”

Caroline’s opera singer’s yelp succeeded in beating the girl to the prize for the loudest voice. “Brendan, honey, this is May! They’re our new neighbours, May and her mother. And her little sister, of course! Oh how thrilling! May wants to be a trainer, just like you, darling! Oh, you and May have so much in common.”

Her son finally had a chance to speak. “A t-trainer?! W-when did I say that?”

“But you’re the son of a gym leader. You have the genes of a trainer in your blood. It runs in the family, you know.”

“The genes of a trainer? I’ve never heard anything so ridiculous!”

“Don’t be silly Brendan! Your father would be proud if you followed in his footsteps. All you need is a passion for adventure and your friends beside you.”

“But I don’t know anyone in the whole region! What makes you think I’ll have friends?”

Caroline cackled in disbelief. “Oh, you’ll meet people on the way! You’ll make such a triumph in Hoenn. Now excuse me – I have some furniture to sort out.”

Brendan released a sigh of frustration. “There she goes again, getting carried away.” Giving a despondent expression, May seemed to ponder on this remark.

“Parents, huh? What would you do with ‘em?"

The boy was surprised by her sudden silence, as if she were reminiscing upon a distant memory. May instantly perked up again. “Hey, come on! I’ll show you around!”

In front of the two stood a fairly large, sturdy building – dominating the front wall was an image of a Pokeball. Clearly, this was a structure built for an important purpose, especially a devotion to all the magnificent and bizarre creatures that lived around humans. “And this is the Pokemon lab!” The girl held her arms up high, as if to praise the building as an ancient monument. “My dad works here – he’s a professor of Pokemon.”

“Your dad is Professor Birch?!”

“Guess you’re not the only one with a famous father!” May was about to move on when a loud call disturbed her progress.

“May – May, darling!” Her mother strode over to them to tell some important news. “If you’re going to show Brendan around, I’m afraid you won’t find your father at the lab. He’s out doing some field work. He’s just up north if you want to see him.”

“Alright-y then! Let’s go and explore, Brendan.” Dragging the boy by the hand, May skipped over to route 101, where she hoped to find her father.

“Aaaaaaeeeehhhh!”

The two responded to the scream by sprinting over to its source, discovering the professor cowering at the foot of a tree. Looking around, they spotted a trio of Poochyena, snarling and growling at their captive. “I… I was doing some research, when… when they jumped me! Quick! Over there in that bag - there are Pokeballs inside! Please, you must hurry!”

May hesitated to get close, but Brendan instantly ran to the bag. Reaching inside, he recovered a Pokeball. “Come on May! We’ve gotta try and help!” The girl followed; dipping her hand in the bag, she picked another of the red and white capsules. Both preparing for a battle, they lobbed the Pokeballs into the air – the objects reacted by loosing blasts of red light, which came into contact with the ground and formed solid creatures.

The red glow faded, as it became apparent that a Mudkip and a Treecko had been released from their containers. They faced the slobbering Poochyena as they steeled themselves for a fight.

“Well” said Brendan, “Here goes nothing…”

This is great! I'm somewhat biased, since Hoenn is my favorite region, but oh well. (BTW, Brendan is from Johto when the Player Character.) Good description so far. I can't wait until the next chapter!

I'm glad you liked it! Yeah, i never really knew where Brendan came from, so i just made it up, but thanks for pointing it out.:yahoo:
