We've already seen Gary go from a Pokémon trainer to a Pokémon researcher and the rest of the cast won't be travelling around forever either. We may never see what happens later, (unless we get an epilogue or series set a few decades later,) but it is interesting to speculate. Let's try to avoid shipping debates here, though.

Ash will probably manage to win a tournament eventually and once he is established as a powerful trainer, his career will probably reflect that. I see him being hired by the Pokémon League for duties 'on the field'. One role will be bodyguard for the tournament torches since he seems to already do that anyway.

Brock could make lots of money selling his Pokémon food.

Misty will probably remain as Gym Leader, (even if she takes a break to travel with Ash later in the series.) Max also looks set to take over the Petalburg Gym when Norman retires, possibly implementing a scheme similar to the game version of the gym.

Jessie, James and Meowth... will probably continue their attempts to capture Pikachu. Or maybe they will see sense and retire into a legitimate lifestyle. (They already nearly did in Vanity Affair.)

I can't see Satoshi settling down. I think he will always be a wandering trainer, like his mother said his father and grandfather are/were. Even if he did get hired by the League, I could only see him doing a Wataru-type job, being a G-man... a sort of wandering crimefighter.

You are most clearly bored to find that worthy of being pondered.

Uh, FabuVinny you mentioned all the main characters except May? Was that intentional? :/

Anyway, she'll most likely win a Grand Festival sometime and become a Top coordinator. I can see her becoming a mentor-like character to younger inexperienced coordinators, or something.

Since she loves to travel I can't see her settling down anywhere either, she'll most likely love to explore new regions and compete in Contests there, such as if there are Contests halls in Johto, she'll go there too.

When does the point come to not worry about what the characters are going to do; spending multiple hours pondering and predicting the writers... what happened to just watching?

Well, I think Haruka will meet her death with Kasumi slitting her throat... and well, Satoshi and Kasumi will get together, Max will be alone and have to use pokemon for companions... and Brock will just be...... i dunno, a owner of a strip bar; who knows.

Wow, my theory is not more valid than yours are, lmao

</sarcasm>

Real theory; I think it won't even wrap up; I could imagine the series just ending on a normal episode... there's too many loose strings to tie up.

Let's just hope they don't try to pull a Digimon Adventure 02 on us, showing the cast x years later with completely random jobs and a crack pairing pulled out of nowhere (ok, so I like Ken/Yolei, but it still came out of nowhere)

Did she actually say that? Or just in the dub?

It was in those books written by Takeshi Shudo way, way back when the series started. Their names escape my memory at the moment...

I think it will be a combination of what Misty and NomekoP Oen said.

Okay, maybe not... But once even people in Japan get sick of Pokemon, they will have to cancel the series in a random episode and we will never see what happens with the characters, EVER.

XDXDXD

"Oh no, the sixth generation of Pokemon games are down by 1,000 sold copies in the first weekedn they were for sale in comparison to, say, Ruby and Sapphire!"

"People must not like Pokemon anymore!"

"We have to end the anime!"

"But they're in mid-production of a random episode and-"

"Doesn't matter! Tell them to finish it and then fire everyone who works with the Pokemon anime!"

I had to go there. :P

Anyways, my predictions:

Ash: Will never win a single tournament and begin to wonder why. Then he will give away his Sceptile to a group of wild Treecko and Grovyle that he saves from a group of poachers.

Pikachu: Caught and eaten by a random Fearow.

Misty: Togetic, not satisfied with the life force and personality it sucked away from Misty as a Togepi, will return to and suck so much out of Misty she will collapse into dust.

Brock: Will fall through a portal into the real world, right in front of Pie.

Tracey: Will lose his hands in an incident with his Scyther and ends up learning how to draw with his feet. He becomes famous for fifteen minutes and gets in Daisy's pants. Then when the media begins to ignore him, Daisy dumps him for a random plumber she hired one day.

May: A few years after where the anime is now, her body is found floating in a city bay. Harley totemo winner!

Max: Stays eight years old until the end of the world.

Professor Oak and Delia: Continue having hot sex until Oak dies. Then continue to have hot sex.

This is not really a series that can have a finale. You need some kind of overall story arc, or some sort of character development that leads somewhere - otherwise there's simply no content for a finale. Star Trek: The Next Generation, in a sense, was a series like this - its finale did not really tie up any loose plotlines because there weren't any. On the other hand, Deep Space Nine, with its rather large minor character cast and major story arcs, needed 10 45-minute episodes for its finale, which still left some loose ends.

To be perfectly honest, I could viably see the anime trundling on for another decade easily. It still pulls in massive amounts of viewers worldwide and with Nintendo and their second biggest franchise behind it as the easiest (and in the end, probably overall cheapest) form of advertising for the games they could keep it going longer than Terri Schiavo.

When it does finally end though, I guess it probably will just end on a completely open thread. But I also expect a spin-off to come directly afterwards and for stuff to not really be that different.

Wouldn't Ash beating a league as well as beating the Elite 4 be a satisfying ending to the series? He may not quite be a Pokemon Master, but taking down the Elite 4 would be good enough.

The thing is this show only follows the goals of two characters. All they need to do is have May win a Grand Festival, and Ash win a league and you're basically done. They'll also probably take down Team Rocket at one point, leaving Jessie/James/Meowth to turn over a new leaf.

All that's left is Tracey/Misty whose goals are pretty much where they are, just get Brock a girl, and have Max become a trainer. That's honestly all you have to do to finish off the major characters.

I think Ash should/will join the Elite 4, with most of his old pokemon, including Pikachu dead 4 quite some time, and his signiature pokemon is Aipom. He will marry either May or Mysty, and they have a son that follows in Ash's footsteps. Green also will have a son, as well as Drew. All 3 kids will be rivles.

XD

Unfortunately, we'll probaly never seen that happen. Drew doesn't even live in Pallet Town, and Green doesn't exist in the animé.
