It looks like they got the animators from AG 92 ("The Three Animal Appearance! The Referee School Island!") to work on this one, because the animation in this episode was absolute shit. Most of the characters were off-model for half the episode, half of Groudon's scenes looked like crap, and the actual animation was few and far between. Seriously, most of the storm animation/battle between Kyogre and Groudon consisted of nothing but still images shown one after another. The next time they have a big event like this, they need to either hire the good animators to work on it or have it in a feature film where it will get the budget it deserves.

-The episode starts with a recap of last week's episode.

-After the title screen, we see Izumi telling Aogiri that Kyogre's on the loose. He responds by taking the orb out. Team Magma begins to protest, so Izumi orders the members of Team Aqua to bring out their pokemon to protect Aogiri. As Team Aqua calls out their Tedozeruga, Team Magma calls out their Guraena in response. As the two groups' pokemon battle it out, Aogiri makes his way to a helicopter/platform thing, where he pilots it away from the island.

-Meanwhile, Takeshi-tachi arrive in the area where the two teams are gathered.

-Elsewhere, we see that the members of Team Rocket are still on the island, even after they were sent blasting off in the previous episode. However, they find themselves stranded on a cliff at the edge of the island as a storm starts brewing.

-Back at the helicopter/platform, Aogiri calls for Kyogre as Izumi worries about what he'll do. The leader of Team Aqua then has Kyogre create a bunch of cyclones. As Kyogre is wreaking havoc, Izumi orders the other members of Team Aqua to recall their pokemon so that they'll be safe. Homura follows Izumi's lead and has the members of Team Magma do the same.

-Wataru, who's been beside Matsubusa the whole time, tells him that the two legendary pokemon are going to fight soon.

-Back in the Magma helicopter, Satoshi is holding Pikachu tight. Pikachu suddenly wakes up, gets the Kyogre marks on it, and starts to go berserk. It manages to use its electricity to blast a hole in the wall of the helicopter just small enough for it to fit through. It then jumps through the hole and runs away from the helicopter.

-Outside, Takeshi-tachi are searching for Satoshi. As they're searching, the gang runs into Wataru, who's happy to see Takeshi. Together, they find Satoshi, who's peeping out the whole that Pikachu made. He tells them about Pikachu going berserk and blasting a hole in the wall. Suddenly, a loud roar can be heard. Everyone looks toward the sea, and Masato exclaims that a giant tsunami is headed their way!! Wataru calls his Kairyuu to use its claws to free Satoshi.

-Back to Team Rocket at the shore. As they sit there, cowering at the storm, the Team Aqua sub suddenly washes up on the shore, nearly crushing them!!

-And we're back to the Team Magma helicopter. Satoshi is now free, so it's time to find Pikachu! Wataru rides on Kairyuu's back to help search.

-Elsewhere, Izumi looks worried about Aogiri. She tells the other Team Aqua members to leave the island, saying that they're in danger. She looks above and sees Wataru, on his Kairyuu, approaching the power-hungry Aogiri. Wataru tells him to stop, but Aogiri only gets angry and orders Kyogre to attack once again! He has Kyogre shoot at Kairyuu, but it misses. Wataru then calls on his Red Gyarados and has it use Hyper Beam. Kyogre responds with a Hyper Beam of its own and, after the two beams clash for a bit, the attack ends in a stalemate. Aogiri just laughs, proclaiming that the world is his now. Suddenly, the Red Orb that he was holding absorbs into his hand, just like the Blue Orb did into Pikachu!

-Back on land, we see Team Rocket examining the sub. At the top is a large metal box, and Musashi-tachi realize that Groudon inside. So, Nyasu launches into a fantasy about how to use the two legendary pokemon (it's done like a kids' storybook rather than the usual SD-Boss hat we're used to seeing). Suddenly, a lightning bolt out of nowhere shocks Team Rocket--it's Pikachu! Musashi comments on how strange Pikachu looks as it jumps from the cliff that it was on to the box where Groudon is. Suddenly, Matsubusa, Homura, and Izumi arrive at the sub. Kojirou breaks out a bazooka to capture Pikachu, but the Kyogre-possessed pokemon quickly sends the team blasting off.

-As a storm rages, Pikachu channels the electricity from the lightning to amplify its power, breaking Groudon's container and causing a huge explosion. As the pokemon emerges, a volcano on the island erupts as Groudon's Sunny Day causes the storm to go away. But what happened to Pikachu in the explosion?

---commercial break---

-Now that Groudon's been revived, we see Pikachu jump on top of the legendary pokemon's head. Satoshi-tachi are happy to see that Pikachu is safe. However, the tsunami's still coming, which Masato points out is still a problem. Suddenly, Groudon uses its Solar Beam attack on the tsunami, causing it to dissipate. Homura comments on the true power of Groudon, and how terrifying it actually is.

-Wataru then tells Satoshi-tachi that it's dangerous, and that they should make a run for it. Satoshi says that he doesn't want to back down because of Pikachu, and Takeshi and the others agree to stay behind as well. They also decide that since Pikachu seems to have sided with Groudon, they will too.

-Kyogre, who seems upset that its tsunami was destroyed, fires a Hydro Pump attack toward Groudon. Masato exclaims that it will really damage Groudon because it's a fire-type, but his fears are soon put to rest when Pikachu deflects the Hydro Pump with a super-powered electricity attack. Afterward, the sun's rays finally reach Groudon, and they begin to boost its powers (seeing as how Sunny Day boosts fire-types and all).

-Takeshi-tachi are riding on Wataru's Red Gyarados. As Kyogre and Groudon go into the water to duke it out, a plan is set in motion to calm the two beasts. Takeshi calls out his Mizugorou while Haruka calls out her Agehanto. Mizugorou is ordered to use Water Gun on Aogiri's helicopter while Agehanto is ordered to use Silver Wind on it. The attacks damage one of the chopper's engines, but it's generally unharmed. However, Aogiri now notices Takeshi-tachi and becomes upset, so he orders Kyogre to go after them. As Takeshi-tachi, still riding on the Red Gyarados, distract Kyogre, Wataru flies in with his Kairyuu to attack. The dragon pokemon uses a Hyper Beam attack on Kyogre, which seems to do a lot of damage to the legendary pokemon. Up above, we see the orb being rejected by Aogiri's body, presumably caused by the attack on Kyogre. Aogiri faints and falls off the helicopter, but Wataru's Kairyuu swoops down and rescues him before he can land.

-Suddenly, the Blue Orb falls out of Pikachu's body as well! Like Aogiri, the little pokemon faints and falls toward the sea. However, Kairyuu's too far away to save it! Satoshi responds by diving into the water himself. Everyone is worried about his safety.

-On shore, Izumi waits by Aogiri, who is slowly regaining consciousness. Once he wakes up, we find out that he doesn't remember anything about what happened while he had the Red Orb.

-Above, Takeshi and the others anxiously wait for Satoshi to surface. Suddenly, they see Satoshi with an unconscious Pikachu in his arms...riding on top of Kyogre! Satoshi informs his friends that the legendary pokemon saved him before thanking the pokemon himself. Kyogre then turns its attention to Groudon, and the two pokemon stare at each other for a while.

-At that moment, we see the Blue Orb and the Red Orb begin to float in the air. The two orbs start to glow and combine into one orb before disintegrating.

-Kyogre and Groudon keep staring at each other. Then, without so much as a growl, the two pokemon turn around and return to their lairs. Wataru says that the two will start a new world as Satoshi wonders where they'll go...

...and that's about it. It seems to me that this is supposed to be the big confrontation. Which really sucks, in my opinion, because this episode felt really rushed. Can't the series have ONE legendary pokemon battle that doesn't end in some kind of stalemate/anticlimactic parting of ways?

Groudon is a Ground-type, not a Fire-type. Good summary otherwise.

Also, it was Groudon that dealt the final blow - not Dragonite. Groudon uses a Solar Beam to blast through the Tsunami Kyogre slapped at it and hits Kyogre after bursting through it.

And yeah, the animation did pretty much suck... -_-.

Still, his point stands as Sunny Day halves the power of Water type moves.

Anyway, having only seen screenshots I can't comment on the animation. Is this another case like that of the two part Ash battle against Gary in Johto? i.e that the first part had great animation but the second didn't? You'd think they could afford to have great animation two episodes in a row for things like this.

Still, Dragonite looked awesome, I love how in the anime it's wings can be stretched so much larger than how they look in the game.

About the battle. I guess I could agree that they do tend to be a bit anticlimatic, but if you think about it, in this and most other cases they have to be. Groudon and Kyogre have to reach a stalemate as if either force truly defeated the other the whole world could go off-balance. One of the main points of Groudon and Kyogre's existence is that they cancel each other out.

*Still wondering about a lot of details in this episode*

So the conflict between the two teams still isn't over? Whoo-hoo!

Of course, now they'll be after the *same thing*...which will be interesting..

Say, what happened to Matsubusa during this? I wasn't clear on that from the summary--just got away in the helicoptor?

Hah. Love that line. He's got a Pokemon that's only an equal to one that another Trainer has, and he's on an easy path to world domination? Hahaha.

Ugh, sounds like a horribly anticlimatic episode. This is why I love Pokemon Special. It handles stories like these with a lot more competence . . .

Well a lot of people are speculating that the battle is far from over. I really don't think this is the last we'll see of Aqua, Magma, Groudon, or Kyogre in the anime.

Yeah. This was it. The fact that they royally screwed it up doesn't mean that it has to continue. :p I only see them reappearing if they really think they need some way of writing Rayquazza into the anime. And seeing as how Ray has already gotten a starring role in the longest Pokemon movie ever, I don't see that happening.

The anime isn't big on telling satisfying or suspenseful stories. I would've thought that people would've realized this by now, but apparently not . . .

One day, Mozz, I'm going to read all the manga I have sitting in my room and see this famous Alabasta arc that you and everyone else praises so heavily :).

I don't really remember. I think he just vanished the same way Prof. Shiranui did in the second Lake Rage/Red Gyarados episode (which, coincidentally, also featured Wataru).

Alabasta? What now?

Also--Lance has a way of making people disappear, doesn't he? Hmm, perhaps he has a side interest like in Special (that is to say, KILL ALL HUMANS RAWR)

It's a major story arc in One Piece. It's said to be the best arc of the series (so far), and to me it seems like people think of highly of it as they do of the Kyoto arc in Rurouni Kenshin, the Chuunin exams in Naruto, the Dark Tournament arc in Yu Yu Hakusho, etc.

Shiranui... was also in the Raikou special.

Yes. He was named Professor Sebastian in the dub.

But the thing is, BG, Wataru (oddly enough) seemed to be protecting Maxie at one point. He probably just had him and Archie arrested.

Yep. And the way people talked, I thought he'd have a larger role, but it was just the one scene...

I have a clip of his entire scene, if anyone wants it. I have Yahoo and MSN... (and in this clip, Bashou introduces himself and Buson. So you'll see what I've been saying about how disturbing his voice is)

And Dogasu--Yeah, but why do you bring up his dub name in reference to the undubbed Raikou Special?

Blocking a Hyper Beam hardly means Kyogre was simply equal to the Red Gyarados. From what I could tell the scene was really showing that Lance couldn't do much of anything because Kyogre could easily counter his attacks and nullify them. And this is Lance we're talking about, one of if not the strongest trainer on the planet currently.

You also neglect that the real power Aqua seeked to gain was Kyogre's control over the sea and weather, not simply the power it had in battle.

I don't see why people keep saying Shiranui vanishes. In the dub at least he says very plainly as he elaves that he is going on ahead in a helicopter and will await Tyson's arrival with the red Gyarados. Tyson never makes it of course.

Really, overall the conflict ending in a stalemate between Kyogre and Groudon was about what I expected, not the bit about Pikachu and Archie being possessed, but anyway... What is it that all of you wanted to see that made you so disappointed? :bheart: The only thing I would have done is maybe add another episode of battling before the two elmental Legendaries returned to their domains.

I think they mean 'vanishing' in as much as we never see him again. Which is a shame, because he's so much cooler than a certain other Dr. Wylie ripoff I could name.
