Now, where is Alfonso?

Let me clarify. According to the preview, random trainer's freshly-evolved Butterfree and Musashi's Dokucale duke it out giant-style, like Kimori VS Gokulin.

The writers have officially run out of ideas.

Oh, and I'll be more than a little peeved if they showcase Dokucale only to have it leave at the end of the episode.

Ridiculous. Is this suppossed to be some ongoing theme in this arc or something? Seeing old Pokemon that the main characters owned yet they belong to someone else?

1. May gets a Squirtle, yet Ash makes no reference to his Squirtle.

2. The group meet some Geodude and Onix, yet Brock doesn't make reference to his Geodude and Onix.

3. Ash, May, Max and Brock make no reference to THE Jigglypuff when they see a random Jiggly. (Although Meowth does)

4. We get an episode about May and Drew wanting to capture Arcanine and/or Growlithe, yet several major characters (Gary, James, Officer Jenny, Masamune) already had those Pokemon.

5. They make a filler about Psyduck, one of Misty's signature Pokemon.

6. They make a Mr. Mime and Sneasel filler, which are also throwbacks to Delia's Mr. Mime and Harrison's Sneasel.

7. Now we have an episode about some random Butterfree. Jeez.

And all these episodes are roughly in a row too. The writers seem to purposely be making episodes that feature Pokemon that used to be in the main group at one time or another.

And after all this, it seems none of the main characters have any memory or even reference their own Pokemon. This can't be some coincidence, this is being done intentionally on the writers part.

This Kanto arc is looking terrible. Pointless filler showcasing old Pokemon that all the main characters had.

I mean really, what's with all this filler? At least give us some more Frontier Brains or Contests, not this Pokemon of the day garbage, which is even worse now since we've seen all these Pokemon hundreds of times.

I have to agree, the writers are trying to spite their fans by showing old Pokemon again for some reason.

Who wants to bet that Ash won't even remember his Butterfree?
 
I don't see why everyone is acting as if this development is new. The writers have been beating us over the head with filler marathons since Johto started. And anyway, they are in Kanto so it makes sense for them to be showcasing some old pokemon again.
 
Well, at this rate - with a Godzilla parody . . . it was only about time before they wanted to do a Mothera Parody.

When do we get an episode featuring a gigantic Blastoise called Blastera?

Maybe because the fillers of Hoenn were actually pretty good? Sure, we got some crappy ones here and there (Spinda ep, "Lights Camerupt Action") but for the most part the fillers in Hoenn were very good.

The ones in this Kanto arc however seem hit or miss. It's almost if the quality of the writing of the show dropped once the gang left Hoenn.

But at least it's above Johto quality so far, so it's not THAT bad.

I see nothing wrong with fillers, when they are entertaining. In this, I have to disagree with Scott: the Spinda episode was one of the funniest Hoenn fillers I've seen. I mean, you gotta love Brock's bad luck with the heartbroken spinda et all.
 
I guess the quality of the filler is just opinion. I thought the Onix, Jigglypuff, and Pysduck episodes were good. Only the Clefairy and Arcanine episodes were really dissapointing to me.
 
The Clefairy and Arcanine episodes were only semi-filler though, since important stuff happened in both. (Misty left again in the Clefairy one, Drew makes his first appeareance in Kanto in the second), so I really wouldn't group those with the other filler we've been getting where nothing at all has happened.

The animation for this ep also looks horrible. Good thing the crappy animation team is doing what looks like to be a terrible episode, rather than the important contest episodes and/or Ash Vs. May match in the fighting dojo in the next 3 weeks.
 
I think he did make a reference to his Butterfree...


And according to Pokeani, it looks like Harley's in the Saffron Contest in the preview... and May uses Combusken (or maybe not, it's featured though).

Oh, and Dustox DOESN'T leave.

Good news all round, then! :) Combusken is a sensible choice, especially if Harley uses Cacturne.
 
Hasn't Harley lost against May with Cacturne enough? You'd think Harley would be smart enough to use a different Pokemon for once. She'll probably end up beating him a third time.

The biggest argument I had with Johto was the fact it took more or less forever to get to Ecruteak City. Even the narrarator was audiably happy that he didn't have to say "As our heroes continue on their journey to Ecruteak City" when they finally got there.
 
Yeah I loved early Johto. Wtf am I saying, I love all of Pokemon. Actually no. I hate gym battles. I love fillers and am apparently the only one who LIKES the silly pointless episodes that generally feature more TR than usual. :ksmile:
