Japanese Episode AG 182: "Aipom and the King!"
Air Date: July 6th, 2006

TV-Tokyo, 7:00pm
From TV-Tokyo's website:
While chasing the mischevious Aipom on the way to the Battle Pyramid, Satoshi and his friends come across a village where a new king is being chosen. Whoever obtains the crown that's been handed down throughout the town's history will become king for the next year, so everyone in the village is scrambling to get it. Satoshi and his friends hear that outsides are allowed to compete for the title as well, so they decide to participate...

Judging from the preview, Takeshi is going to compete to win the heart of some girl he meets in the village.

So Brock will at least get some spotlight?
That's good.

I wonder what will happen since Aipom got the crown. It seems funny at least.

It looks like a fun episode, though maybe not one that will tell us anything we don't know about Aipom. Brock literally diving into the crowd looks brilliant, though. :-D

Bit foolish of Ash and co to try to get the crown if it means they'll have to be king for a whole year. Won't they have to stay in the town for most of the time?

Brock diving into the crowd does look like fun.

Aipom still sucks.

Maybe they leave Aipom to serve as king. Though I'd feel sorry for the villagers to have a hat stealing monkey as their king.

Not after Ash just caught it in the last episode.

Besides, the title is "Aipom and the King" so the king will probably be one of those characters of the day.

I think the weak looking guy with Nosepass will win.

And what's with the Aipom hate?

BTW, in case no one noticed, the Fearow are robots.

The fact that it's a pointless capture is the pretty much key reason. Though I believe Jo-Jo simply doesn't like Aipoms at all. :p

I still don't see what use Aipom has to Ash - it's not as if it's going to be able to beat a fecking Regi in the Pyramid and unless there's some final challenge after that, it's just going to run around being cute/annoying until the end of the BF.

I also don't buy that just because he caught it, it's going to evolve and some new D/P Pokemon will be revealed for it.

I thought the animation on the Nosepass looked pretty bad when it was like levitating in the air

I like Aipoms (hands coming out of their asses!), I just hate Ash's for being super-hyper-annoying.

The summary makes it sound like Ash is still chasing after Aipom. Why the heck is he chasing the thing if he caught it already? Just recall it back into its ball and put a lock on it or something.

If Pokéballs had locks, Misty and Jessie would have invested in one years ago. :-p

Plus, the preview makes it look like Pikachu and Aipom are not with the humans and Pokéballs only work at short-range.

I think it will evolve, but I have to say one thing though... I don't think it will be revealed on the show though. It'll probably pop up in a magazine a month before it happens (or after the games come out).

I can't remember too many wothless catches he's had before... maybe hatching a phanfy, but not really.

Aipom is cool though, in the game they make him suck, hopefully they change that some how, but yeah, Gold's Aipom is what makes Aipom cool (From Pokemon SP)

It probably still makes it sound like he is chasing Aipom because wasn't this summary out before he caught Aipom? Saying it is Ash's Aipom would have given it away. Aipom may be the type that comes out of his pokeball alot, or it may just stay in the city it's in in the next episode

This episode had it's highs and lows. The intro did not change other then the sound effect being removed at the beginning again.

Satoshi uses his Zukan to identify Nosepass. I found this to be very odd considering he battled Tsutsuji's Nosepass near the beginning of Advanced Generation. Team Rocket also had a new words to their name introductions, "Hey Hey Hey Hey", which was odd.. There was also some new CGI effects in the background during the Motto. Aipom uses kagebunshin (Double Team) is random places, not the standard circle. Aipom also used supiidosutaa (Swift) but both of those moves were already know from earlier episodes but are now confirmed as attacks that it can use.

At the end of the episode, the pokemon sunday crew shows up to show a new scene from m9 with Meowth, Jessie and James which is absolutely hilarious! They have Manaphy's egg and it uses its new move, Heart Swap, and they all trade bodies.

I rather liked this episode.

Despite originally wanting Aipom to sod off in this, when actually given the out - I wanted it to stay... :/

There was a great moment in it, where it seems that Aipom is going to be stuck here for the tenure of the King and Ash says he'll stay with it, even if it means giving up on his Battle Frontier dream.

Makes a change to dumping it, running off and having it run back after him with "The Time has Come" playing over it.

Also, there was some new battle music in this that was intriguing. I'm almost tempted to say it could be an early preview of some D/P pieces....

Aipom is such a lovable little scamp and how Ash promised to stay with it, even if he had to give up his own dream, was really really touching :3
