I just wanna clear something up.
Everyone think Ash is and always has been 10. Well there wrong.
The official japanese character bio clearly states that Satoshi (Ash) is curently 16.
So 6 years have passed so far.
I just thought I shoukd clear this up because I've seen a few people 'round this site saying otherwise.

hmmm. if he's 16, which i do believe, other than a voice change, why hasn't he grown at all? he's still half the size of james, and his face looks ten years old.

I dont remember the site name...maby serribii?
Google it and you'll find out.

Oh yes!

I believe Ash could be 16!

I mean, he sure looks that age (with his new Sinnoh outfit and everything). ^_^

And I also think Ash has grown throughout the anime. I can tell he's matured a lot on his journey, both physically and mentally. So in my opinion, I can easily see him as being 16 in the anime currently.

If Ash is 16, I'm 25 :<

I can't believe this is still going! Seriously, the only reason they even mention the age in the anime is to state when someone is "old" enough to begin on their Pokémon journey. Otherwise, the age is completely irrelevant.

Hey, apperently 2 years our time is 1 year in the pokemon world.
12 years
6 have passed.

Also, how old is Anabela? I dont think an adult would have feelings for a 10 year old *coughpedofile*

Since when "serribii" is the Japanese official Pokemon site?

Ash doesn't look 16 at all, if he has aged (something that doesn't seen to happen in the anime), he's at most 12.

If you're going to say certain site said something about the characters' ages, back up your information with links.

Others have already said it, but I'd like to say this in my own words. Here's the way it works with not just Pokemon, but every other Anime/cartoon as well. Characters Never Ever age in an animated series unless clearly intended. Such would be the case with the transition between Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02 in which both the physical appearence of the characters, and their size, changed.

As far as Pokemon is concerned, Ash looks exactly the same in physical appearance, other than a change in wardrobe. Therefore, it is only logical to assume that Ash is the same age as he was from the very beginning. Yes, there are distinctions with his voice in both the Dub and (to a lesser degree) in the original. But that has more to do with the individuals voicing him, rather than the character itself. Remember, just because a character developes and/or grows up, does not mean they grow out or age.

The characters never reveal their age and never will, it's up to you to pick the age they are and what suits you best, so saying ash is 16 is wrong, it's really up to the viewer, to make their viewing easier, if they say Ash IS 16 people won't be able to envisions him as a 16 year old boy, and if they said he's still 10 vice versa.

The proof that characters don't age is Max and Brock's siblings. I bet next time we see Max he still won't be old enough to be a trainer, and Brock's siblings haven't aged either.

Although I do think the writers purposely don't age them because they think they look old enough already, as is the case with May and Dawn.

I think Ash is...14 and a half.

One year for every League and less than half a year for the Orange League.

That's my theory.

Actually, last official proof about Ash's age were note in official japanese page stating that at the begining of Advanced Generation Ash were the same age as May, who were clearly stated to be 10. Until official japanese sources will confirm otherwise, I will believe Ash is still 10 year old and no more. Which is hard for me, cause US dub try to change him into teenager, but I digress.

That made so much sence! In the episodes they talk about how long it is till the pokemon leage/ grand festivel. At the begining its 1 year to the pokemon leage!
Heres a cookie for ya!

Since when has the anime been logical? The anime has done some weird-ass things, so I don't think using logic can be proof enough.

The thing about this is that no one has ever sourced this, so it's not proof. My guess is that someone just made it up and everybody believed it, so a lot of people take it as fact.

Thanks for the cookie =D

And...When Ash and his friends came back to Viridian City, in order to get the last badge, at the very beginning of the episode, it is said "One year has passed..."

(At least I think it was said in that episode xD)

And my theory is based on that sentence.

Well time does pass and the characters do age. There are people out there in really who never physically change as much despite some years passing by.

From what I believe, I guess 4-6-years passed in their world.

And anywho, if Max/Masato's makes an appearance again, as a trainer, how can we explain how time didn't pass by?
