Aww. :-( I'd watched a show about him before, and though I haven't been keeping up, it's still really sad that he died.

Well, R.I.P., Alex.

If he said “Wanna banana”, but was offered a nut instead, he stared in silence, asked for the banana again, or took the nut and threw it at the researcher.
That's awesome! XD

Oh my god.

I really liked Alex.

Oh man.

He did quite a bit for the reputation of animals as a whole- he was one of the best examples of how truly intelligent animals are, much more than what people thought before Irene worked with Alex.

R.I.P., Al. ._.

See, you people here, you understand. I posted this at another board and it got locked because it "wasn't important", after a bunch of people started flaming me. Yet a thread about stupid product names remains open.

You know, if it was Koko the gorilla instead of Alex, people would be sad. But then Koko is marketable.

that's sad
never heard of him
but I read about him through the Wikipedia article
he was awesome

what's the lifespan of that kind of parrot?

Yet, somehow, there are billions of people who think animals are dumb and souless creatures. Anyone who has ever owned a dog or cat knows that is false.

Heck, even my fish have distinct personalities. Newfish that I haven't named yet is hyper and loves swimming around at top speed, and Zoe, my goldfish in the pond, is kinda shy and loves to eat.

Let's not forget "Myth Busters" proved goldfish have memories longer than it takes to circle a goldfish bowl.
