AlfShipping ( Ash / Max ) is something that was one of my interests during Pokémon Advanced. I saw there's no other thread about it so I thought I start a new one. I mean, even when they first met, Max looked like having Ash idolized since watching his match at the Silver Conference. And after all, though they've had their discussions, they do get along very well. Does anyone support this shipping ? Does anyone have, even if just a few, hints ?

Ohhh, yeah, I'd totally AlfShip my life away!!!!

<3 AlfShipping is love, that's for sure. Even their first interaction was full of fun. And the sixth movie definitely had some interesting/cute/adorable moments!

Basically anything involving Max is great in my book.

Pictuuuuures!!!

I love all Satoshi/Masato interactions. He's great with kids, especially when the kid's his fan. |D Yaaay Alfshipping.

Awww!! Precious Max and Ash!!

::Adores the pictures::

I think these two are incrediably cute together -- Heck, Ash actually hugged Max during one of May's contests!! Other than Pikachu, I think that's the most contact he's had with another person willingly. xD

Yes, Ash and Max hugged after May finally beat Drew in the Grand Festival. The episode was "Channeling the Battle Zone." Puff is right: it pretty much was the closest physical contact Ash willing had with another character ('sides Pikachu), and you know--it probably always will be. I doubt Ash will hug another character for a long, long time.

Haha, so in many ways this 'ship is eons ahead of the rest.

Oooh Alfshipping sounds like a cute ship. ^_^

The screenshots of them are soo cute.

Oooh you're right xdeadpan, other than Pikashipping, Alfshipping is eons ahead of other ships. XD

Oh no, here's something to add to my (surprisingly short) shipping list! Oh god it's so adorable and not unlikely in my book (opinions, opinions!).

*longs for more screenshots*

Hiya, I'm happy to announce that I have collected a whole lots of hints for AlfShipping, so here they are :
1. Looking back on the early AG episodes, even when they first met, Max seemed to have idolized Ash ever since he saw his battle at the Silver Conference. I know that he said he himself could have won but anyways, his first reaction was showing adoring and idolizing. ( I know I'm overusing the word "idolize" . ) Right after that they got into an argue, though, but they didn't actually seem to hate each other, though first interactions count a lot in two people's relationship. And they soon start to develop better thoughts of each other.
2. A proof of their closeness is that in the episode "A Bite To Remember", when they see the Poochyena,Max simply pulls out Ash's Pokedex, instead of asking for it. It might prove that they are close friends because you don't just take anything of someone who you don't like / don't know well. And there are only a few scenes in the whole series when anyone uses his Pokedex other than Ash. Later in the same episode, after Max uses Poochyena in a battle against Torchic but loses, he asks Ash for a battle and is happy when he agrees, happier than when May agreed a battle. But later when Ash says Poochyena is tired for battles now, so he refuses, Max looks really sad.
3. In "Taming Of The Shroomish", Max asks Ash to go searching for some Pokemon with him and he agrees, and the two actually go, while Brock and May stay. So, that means, Ash and Max are alone, only them two, and Ash rarely stays alone with another character.
4. The episode "Winner By A Nosepass" is when Max first sees Ash do a gym battle and he seems to be amazed, sometimes surprised, and when Pikachu's Iron Tail has no affect on Nosepass, he even gets disappointed. Looks like he really wanted Ash to win. Oh, and he's so happy when Ash finally gets victory against Roxanne !
5. In the next episode " Stairway To Devon" Ash really likes his newly gotten badge the Stone Badge, and so does Max. After all, Max is the first ( and probably only ) person in the series to also get interest in Ash's badges. Later Ash is the first one to show interest about where Max is.
6. There's also a very small hint in " A Meditite Fight " when Max sees how Ash and his Pokemon practice at the sea and calls their job awesome. We don't very often hear him call anyone else's practice awesome. In the following episode once again Max worries about Ash's gym match, a rematch against Brawly which our hero wins.
7. In "Having A Wailord Of A Time " Ash and Max stay alone together again, now in the Pokemon Center. They try to take care for their Pokemon and ones that are in the center but get everything messed up. However, Ash comes up with a plan and they're determined to make it, it's just another proof that they have a similar way of thinking. And after their plan doesn't work, Max doesn't apologize to his sister ( who they tried to deceive ), he nervously apologizes to Ash, very much like for having his plan ruined. Now tell that he means nothing for Max and you'll know you're wrong.
8. And, just to make it clear, Ash and Max go on exploring Slateport on their own without Brock and May in " The Spheal Of Approval". Later in the same episode when they meet the Magma agent, Ash releases Corphish and Pikachu steps up as well, and Max and Yousuke are told to stay back but Max refuses. Looks like he really wants to stand by Ash.
9. There's also something what I'd like to mention though a lot of people can argue with this. In "A Different Kind Of Misty" a girl called Izuna says that the group is really fond of Pokemon. Brock blushes and tries to flirt but Max says that the girl was refering to Ash. I think this is kinda interesting a little bit. How does he know who she refered to ? And why does he care if it was Ash or not ?
10. The next thing I thought was shippy was in "Candid Camerupt" . Why does Max borrow a Pokemon from Ash when he could simply ask for Torchic from May or Forretress from Brock ? Also, when Max battles Vivi ( but that whole thing doesn't even last for a whole episode, it even lasts for less than five minutes, man ) , he concentrates on Vivi, not the battle, but suddenly comes back down to Earth when Ash talks to him. Wow, so he likes Ash more than Vivi. THAT WAY.
11. Now I kick up the order of the episodes and really wanna mention "Balance Of Power" in which Max supports his dad, Norman, instead of Ash but that can be understood. We boys always think our dad is unbeatable and undefeatable while we're kids. However, after Ash wins, Max manages to take his badge and run away with it crying. He accuses May which is reasonable, and refuses to come out of the greenhouse where he's locked himself in. However, Norman tries to solve the situation and Ash also talks with a look on his face that displays the feeling of being emotionally touched. ( Personally, sometimes I get the feeling that he actually wouldn't mind Max to keep the badge. ) After Ash's comments, Max comes out, so technically he's the one who gives Ash the Balance Badge. He even apologizes to Norman AND ASH, not giving a damn about Brock's and May's opinion about the whole thing. Though some people talk about this episode as an evidence that this shipping is doomed, I've found all these things in it that just make me think this shipping is even stronger.
12. And here's something which is maybe(!) a weaker evidence : In "Pros & Con Artists " Ash and Max are at the bench in the hall, and it takes a few seconds til they realize Brock's not with them. How much do you need to like someone to not recognize that a third person used to be there and is not there now ?
13. Also, a small one which you need a rational brain to recognize : In "All Torkoal, No Play" Ash asks Brock and Max to let him down with a rope so he can save May's life. After he reaches to her, Brock and Max pull them up ... Well, since Brock all alone would not be able to pull up two people and Max is much weaker than him, I assume Max was struggling really hard to pull them up. Does the fact that Ash was one of the two people they were pulling up change the situation ?
14. "Take This House And Shuppet" is also interesting because May doesn't wanna go searching for Max while Ash gets pretty worried about him. He's not even his brother ! ( Fortunately. If he were, this shiping would be incest which I do not support at all. )
15. In "Pokeblock, Stock & A Berry" Max seems to be worried about Ash's Swellow and how he has no luck trying to teach it Aerial Ace. That's interesting, why doesn't he just stay with his sister and Brock ? And we rarely see him worried about using a new technique with a Pokemon.
16. Then, a bit later, comes the episode "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snorunt", in which Ash and Snorunt ( who he caught later in the same episode ) got lost in freezing weather and the others had to go back to the Pokemon Center. Max looks extremely worried, but mostly, sad about Ash is missing. He's also the first one to ask Snorunt ( who came back for help ) where Ash is. When they find him, Max is also the only one to care about Ash's badges which he likes so much, no-one else bothers to ask if Snorunt gave them back or not. Technically, Ash can thank Max that he has captured Snorunt because Max put forward the idea that the Pokemon can come with them.
17. Ash's gym battle against Juan is another connecting thread between him and Max. Before the battle, Max asks Ash if this battle will be okay and Ash reassures him. What's with all Max's worrying if not loving ? Also, during the battle Max stands up cheering for Ash. No-one else has ever done this before as far as I know, and Max never did such thing before as far as I know. And look how happy Max is after Milotic faints.
18. The episode "Mean With Envy" is really not about Max or Ash but there's a little hint in it : When Ash holds Snorunt back cos he wants to practice with the Ice Pokemon, the look on Brock's face is obviously amused, while Max's can be called a mixture of sarcastic/bittersweet watching and feeling sorry for Ash. There's quite a diference between the two looks.
19. Still with Snorunt, in "Deceit And Assist" Ash is training Snorunt and he's rather showing off to Max, kinda trying to demonstrate his skills. It'd be normal if he and Max were rivals, but in their situation the solution is that Max means a lot to him, and so does his opinion of Ash.
20. And now, talking of opinions, there's a really obvious evidence in "At The End Of The Fray". Max is disappointed because he can't be a trainer yet but clearly says that he'll be there to see Ash until he can. That's really obvious I guess.
21. " The Scheme Team" is Ash's turn to be obvious. Ash sits down at a river ( he's alone, only Pikachu is accompanying him ) when he sees a Poliwag and he calls out to Max. Max, no-one else. ( As time passes, hints and evidences become clearer, don't they ? )
21. And what happens when Ash arrives home ? Oh man, he meets Max again who has come with Professor Birch from home. Interesting that this means Ash and Max don't even spend one whole episode without each other between Hoenn and Battle Frontier.
22. Max is totally shocked when he learns that May also wants to go with them to Battle Frontier. Looks like maybe he wanted just himself to travel on with Ash. It can be imagined, right ? Oh, and when Ash's mom tells Ash to be okay, Max says he will as long as he (Max) is there.
23. Not much later comes then the episode "Pasta La Vista". In it, Ash and Max go to a Fighting Dojo and Max can't wait to tell the man they just met that Ash was in the best 8 in Hoenn. It's like Max is prouder of it than Ash is.
24. In "Wheel Of Frontier" he continues to cheer for Ash, and even encourages him before Greta releases her final Pokemon.
25. A small hint from Max can be seen during "The Queen Of Serpentine" in which Brock falls in love with Lucy and his love is returned. The breeder even refuses to cheer for Ash, he wants Lucy to win. When he shouts to cheer for Lucy after Seviper is knocked out, Max quickly pulls him by the ear to prevent him from cheering. ( By the way, once again, Max's face when Ash wins is worth seeing. )
26. And what is really worth seeing is something that proves that the AshMax shipping is eons, tons and lightyears in front of all other shippings connected with Ash : Ash and Max actually hug in "Channeling The Battle Zone" after May defeats Drew at the Grand Festival. Hugging Max is the closest contact Ash has ever made with anyone of his free will -- and probably there's not gonna be anyone who he'll hug in a while. ( Yeah, Melody kissed Ash on the cheek in the second movie but I think it's clear that Ash didn't want it. ) So, still obvious, ain't it ?
27. To not cause boredom, I skip the hot spring scene at the begining of "The Unbeatable Lightness Of Seeing" and here's the next evidence for this shipping :
28. In "Gathering The Gang Of Four" Max says it would be cool to be a Frontier Brain and already imagines what battle facility Ash would have, he even forgets that Ash didn't defeat Brandon yet. He must really feel something for Ash if he forgets that he hasn't even defeated all the Frontier Brains ! ( And Max hardly ever forgets something, and never that's such an important thing. )
29. By the way, in "Once More With Reeling", while earlier Max cheered for his dad instead of Ash, he doesn't support May. Actually, he doesn't really cheer for any of them, which means Ash is at least as important to him as May, or more. ( Actually, I haven't seen that episode, I only read several episode guides to it. )
30. And oh dude, we've arrived to "Home Is Where The Start Is", in which Ash and Max have to say good-bye but before that ... When Max realizes that May will go to Johto, not to Hoenn, he gets sad, and Ash goes after him without more thinking and tries to comfort him. Max seems to find some comfort and Ash promises him that when he becomes a Pokemon trainer, they will have a battle. This extremely cheers Max up.
Alright, that's all I have gathered.

I absolutely adore this one. \o/
'Know this is a year old thread, but I'm bringing it up again. I want to hear if anyone else's still interested in it.

Eh, I'm still interested in it, though it's not one I actively ship. Though I'm surprised it doesn't have an article in the Bulbapedia, even though PetalburgShipping, Sundaeshipping and Masumishipping are listed, among others that are dodgy and may not involve Max (Breastshipping, anyone?). CharizardFlames already listed enough "hints" to earn it one at least.

I hope this ship doesn't get ignored. I really love it.
