Okay so me and my friend decided we're going to make a team using only pokemon from one gereration, and we're going to do this eventually for all 4 gens. First off this is my generation 1 team.

Aerodactyl @ Focus Sash
Jolly Pressure
252 Atk/252 Speed/4 HP
Taunt
Stealth Rock
Earthquake
Stone Edge

The standard lead Aerodactyl. Knowing that the only gen 1 pokemon faster than Aerodactyl are Electrode and Jolteon helps too, which he can survive with sash and proceed to earthquake. Taunt if needed, then Stealth Rock. If he has to come back later, he has Earthquake and Stone Edge on him.

Tentacruel @ Leftovers
Calm Liquid Ooze
252 HP/120 Def/136 SpDef
Toxic Spikes
Sludge Bomb
Surf
Rapid Spin

After Aerodactyl sets up SR, Tentacruel sets up Toxic Spikes. Sludge Bomb and Surf are for stab attacks after setting up and rapid spin is to remove my opponents hazards.

Gengar @ Life Orb
Timid Levitate
252 SpAtk/252 Speed/4 Def
Shadow Ball
Thunderbolt
Focus Blast
Explosion

My Big special Attacker. He can come in easily with three immunities then can use his first three moves to exploit weaknesses. If life orb damage takes its toll then I can explode to cause a decent amount of damage.

Gyarados @ Life Orb
Adamant Intimidate
252 Atk/252 Speed/4 Def
Dragon Dance
Waterfall
Ice Fang
Earthquake

My late game sweeper. Hopefully after the threats are gone I can get in a dragon dance and sweep. I picked Ice Fang and Earthquake for support since I don't like Stone Edge's shaky accuracy.

Dragonite @ Lum Berry
Adamant Inner Focus
252 Atk/252 Speed/4 def
Dragon Dance
Outrage
Earthquake
Superpower

This is my physical beatdown pokemon. I've ran this dragonite for a while and it's pretty successful. Although I was considering switching to a mixnite with Superpower/Draco Meteor/Flamethrower/Thunderbolt. But I feel that might make me too special-based.

Alakazam @ Life Orb
Timid Synchronize
252 SpAtk/252 speed/4 SpDef
Calm Mind
Psychic
Signal Beam
Grass Knot

With 1 CM + Life orb Alakazam's special attack is over 700. I chose to replace focus blast with grass knot because I don't have to deal with blissey. Although I might switch one of the moves to Charge beam to see if I can utilize it's 70% spAtk increase.

So this is my gen 1 team, what should I fix change, etc. Keep in mind this will be playing against another all gen 1 team too.

I can swear i've seen this thread before...
Alakazam is an iffy choice. Although he is one of the fastest pokemon in the metagame, and has a monstrous special attack, his HP and Defense are weak. in a metagame filled with priority and choice scarfers, i do not see him working out as well as it looks on paper. if you are looking for a good special sweeper, there are better options (Gengar stands out in my mind, with the resistance to fighting and normal attack pokemon).

replace alakazam's item with leftovers. or replace alakazam. both are good options, the second is better. might i suggest an electrode?

Electrode is awful late game. Look at his stats. he's only good for taunting/setting up weather, and paralyzing.

Electrod@leftovers
EVs 252 Spe/ 252 Sp Atk/4Hp
Moves:
Thunder Wave
Thunderbolt
Taunt
Explosion
Trait: Static

its a suggestion. just stirring the pot.

it is an awful suggestion. electrode is horrendous as anything other than a lead.

on the Special Sweeping Side, you could use

Starmie
Slowbro (although hes a better wallish pokemon)
Ninetails
Moltres
Jolteon
Exeggecuttor (sp)

Good Starmie: (dcm do you like it?)
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Timid
EVs: 6 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Item: Life Orb
~ Surf
~ Psychic
~ Thunderbolt
~ Ice Beam

i would throw HP ground in there somewhere to cover all of the types (off the top of my head i think that if you drop thunderbolt you only lose water., where as you gain steel. its your choice)

That's because I made one once. Or rather, I came up with an idea for one. Never got around to actually making it, unfortunately.

I would replace Sludge Bomb on Tentacruel with Ice Beam, or possibly Hidden Power Ground like DCM suggested. Poison-type moves are really only helpful when there's a guarantee of them actually poisoning the opponent, like Toxic Spikes or Toxic do. If you're facing another all Gen 1 team, the vast majority of what you'd hit super-effectively with Sludge Bomb is resisted (read: nearly all Gen 1 Grass types are part Poison).

I actually LOVE the idea of Alakazam, especially since you won't have to worry about Dark-types, and the only Steel-type you have to concern yourself with is Magnemite. With those obstacles out of the way, Alakazam has room to be a complete beast. Given that it dies to pretty much any physical hit, however (and your opponent probably knows this and won't bother using special attacks on you), I'd drop Calm Mind and just go for an all-out offensive set.

You really don't need Signal Beam too much, as there are no dark types, and the only ghost type is part poison. That's where I would put either Charge Beam or keep it and get rid of Calm Mind, because I doubt you will get much of a chance of boosting it up.

Deinitely replace alakazam. If you weren't doing generation one only I would recommend a Alakazam(Focus Sash)-Slaking (leftovers)Skill swap combo. The Focus Sash is only so that the foe has to waste more PP and a turn which Slaking can smash them and heal unless they want to catch truant.. Focus Sash Also ensures that Alakazam will get its move..... Sorry this hasn't been much of a help- also use some more ancient Pokemon namely Brave Life Orb Aqua Jet Swords Dance Kabutops.
