Because of as some people say, "the cultural war on AI" (what a way to deflect the societal and climate harm that corpo genAi does) I am not entirely sure if I want to use Linux anymore lol

I never used any BSD flavor, anyone here did?

I also haven't used BSD yet, but I have heard that it's very similar to Linux

but there may be some things reliant on Linux (think of potentially apps, services, and/or desktop environments that need systemd, a popular system initializer that only supports Linux)

I started doing a little reading and seems like yeah, some things won't work, but there is Linux binary compatibility

This unearthed some vague memories of my brother doing something with that, sometime in the 2000s. He had a whole phase of using all sorts of Windows alternatives. I had no idea it was even still around

BSD is still going and strong, and probably will for a long time still.
but it is definitely more niche compared to Linux.

Yeah he started early, especially considering he was a kid (my dad was a big fan of tech so we got PCs earlier than many too). But I think he ultimately settled with Macs for work. I could ask if he still uses Linux etc. for anything else.
