all starters?

when I started, me and my brothers did loads of trading and now we all have Empoleon, Torterra and Infernape each. Was this a good idea or a waste of time?

Well, they're all pretty solid pokemon, and you now have them for your dex, so I don't see how it'd be a bad idea at all. Now you can breed more as you please.
