All those fake spoiliers in the Episode N opening

So, how do you feel about all those fake spoilers we got?

- Satoshi fighting Cheren in an arena with lots of stain glass as Dent, Iris, and N watch from above.
- The Plasma-Dan attacking a skyscraper from a helicoper like they did in the skipped two-parter
- Half the battles at the White Ruins
- Lizardon vs. Reshiram

We're going to be getting a new opening next week. Will it also be filled with "spoilers" for events that never end up taking place? Should we use them as an accurate way to predict what will happen in a given set of episodes?

Those were obviously used just to hype people. The stained glass was probably just for show, but I expected N to watch the Ash vs Cheren battle along with the others and I was indeed disappointed when N did not appear in Cheren's episode. I wanted to see how N would interact with Cheren in the anime.

Team Plasma attacking the skyscraper... maybe the anime writers knew that people were really angry with the missed two-parter, so they went ahead and made it as if Episode N would show any contents from the skipped TR vs TP episodes.

Yup... the White Ruins...obviously just trying to make it seem epic.

Charizard vs Reshiram - that was also for show. Remember how people got hyped over Ash's Charizard returning? Making it seem to put up a good fight against the legendary dragon just made people get excited for it more, so of course, to get people to watch it.

They were just clever ways of advertising. I feel a little disappointed on how they didn't show everything scene by scene but after all, the story arc was pretty awesome anyways.

If you remember the last DP opening, then you'll know that openings have been feeding us fake shit for years. I'm really not surprised by this...

Seriously, at what point in DP did we see the bird trio together, or an Entei?

Here's my opinion. No, openings should not be used for predictions.

They always say trailers lie, dont they? In a way openings are also trailers, so...yeah.

I think there's a difference with this case over others - the intros can usually be viewed as a wider thing for the whole franchise, being an intro for 'Pokemon' showing Pokemon or characters that don't appear makes enough sense in that the intro is partially an introduction to the series not the episodes (like showing all of Ash's Pokemon and his past rivals)

Episode N on the other hand is a self contained arc over an extremely short timeframe and its opening almost deals exclusively with the characters and Pokemon that do appear, so it doesn't have much of a reason not to be relevant to the actual events - save perhaps for the Genesect in the opening to promote the movie rather than the two second glimpse of them in the anime itself (though why not Mewtwo?).

The disappointment comes in where the opener hints at events that would have made for good episodes, N watching Ash battle in a Gym and Charizard proving its strength against Reshiram particularly - unlike other openers where the 'misleading' stuff usually just doesn't happen, here they've instead chosen to show one way of writing the episodes in the intro and then choosing another.

You call it "clever ways of advertising," I call it "straight up lying to us."

o_O True. Now that I read Moe's post, they really didn't have a reason to lie in the OP. Exaggerating some scenes are okay, yes, but creating something that didn't even happen in the show was just not good.

Though... you can't deny they did make people hype over the arc with the OP.

The people that expected the skipped two-parter to air, retconned or otherwise, only have themselves to blame even with the misleading opening.

It seems really cheap to me, showing stuff to get people to watch the arc and then not even showing those specific episodes/clips.

Charizard didn't leave Ash's roster yet, did it? Its still possible there's something more.

I ain't bothered. I NEVER use the Opening to gauge what'll happen.

Remember: they make the Openings (way?) before they actually sit down and discuss (if they do) the episodes themselves...

And heck, EVERY anime opening theme shows a (very) generalized take on the show & its story (like how the opening themes for Bleach are more action packed & far better paced than the show itself)

Well, I'm not surprised. It's standard practice for an anime opening to have little to do with what actually goes on in the plot.

...and yet people still use them to do just that every single time.

Why doesn't the fandom learn from its mistakes?

The only thing I'm really upset about is that there was no Charizard vs Reshiram. I thought that would have been interesting. But I guess everyone is right in saying that intos are more like trailers rather than episode spoilers.

Thats how they get you. they put all of this neat battling and action packed scenes and all we get are parts that involve boringness with characters like Cameron. they need to have in the openeing in small words saying "Not actual footage". its like selling used cars. make it look good and attetnion grabbing on the outside while the car has a blown head gasket. Looks good but when you drive it, it becomes a disaster

i dont get why people thought the opining was for shadowing anything when you could tell that the scenes int they opining where just that for the opining

Fake spoilers or openings are sorta like trick trailers to me, they each contain scenes or elements that are not in the show or movie. Most of the time, this bull is usally just to trick the viewer into thinking that something epic is gonna happen.

Seriously? Let's recall your reaction to the opening:

The start of Episode N meant we got a new opening theme. There are several things worth mentioning:

One, Handsome is featured rather prominently in the opening. Handsome is in the skipped two-parter. Hmmm...

Two, take a look:

Shots from the skipped two-parter are on the top while shots from similar scenes in Yajirushi ni Natte! 2013 are at the bottom.

So they basically reanimated scenes from the skipped two-parter and then put them into the third Best Wishes! opening theme. And it's not like there's any way the people in charge here didn't know we fans would pick up on this right away, either. This was deliberate.

At this point, it's hard to see them not airing the two-parter before Pocket Monsters X and Pocket Monsters Y come out.
