The Pokédex for this Pokémon doesn't make much sense. So it's still mourning dead Marowak even though it's dead? Since all Marowak in Alola are Ghosts, can't they see each other? And Cubone still mourns its mother even though it should be to see her?
I though a Marowak with a Ghost type was supposed to confort Cubone.

Not all Ghost-type Pokémon are dead.

(Strictly speaking, we don't really have proof that any of them are - just flavor text from the Pokédex, which may be worth taking with a grain of salt.)

Alolan Marowak is a Ghost type because it has awakened a spiritual sixth sense.

That would be strange, since a ghost is supposed to be the spirit of a dead individual.

Typically speaking, yes. But just as not all Fire-type Pokémon are literally made of fire or have fire on their bodies, and not all Ground-type Pokémon are made of earth and soil - with Pokémon, type classification is largely to do with what kind of elemental energy they can manipulate. Ghost-type Pokémon manipulate spiritual energy in the same way that a Water-type Pokémon would manipulate water. Their physicality does factor into this - there are of course Ghost type Pokémon with gaseous or incorporeal bodies. But as it pertains to their typing, "Ghost" could simply be a label used by humans to describe these beings that are ghost-like and manipulate spiritual energy.

A good example of Ghost-types not always being dead is Oricorio. It can change form into Sensu Style, which is Ghost-type, and then change to another form again. I doubt it continually dies when it changes into Sensu Style and then is revived again when it changes into Pa'u Style for example :p

Like Esserise said: they're probably labeled like that because they're ghost-like, not necessarily because they're dead beings. You can't actually feed or pet a ghost either, but you can with Ghost-types in Refresh ;)
