In Gen 7 there's currently less than half the existing Pokemon available, so they have to make more obtainable in USUM. And with what Masuda said in the reveal, it's almost inevitable that the regional dex will see more additions.

Which Pokemon would you like to see added?

I'll get an obvious suggestion out of the way: Solrock and Lunatone. They could be added to areas like the mountain with the observatory, near the the Sun and Moon altars or near the Tapu ruins. I'd also just like to see them in a region with Minior!

I’m shocked these aren’t in a place based on Hawaii.

The Oddish line. Gloom and Vileplume are based on a flower that lives in jungles(and have you seen the jungles in Hawaii?) and Bellossom? A hula dancer, most likely. Also, Ekans and Arbok (Or alolan forms for them) because snakes are an invasive species there.

Bellossom and Tropius are definite choices. They should have been in the first 2. Otherwise I'd just like to see more Pokemon from gens 4-6, especially 6.
Actually, the Honedge line could be used if the ancient castles of Alola become playable since they would have been weapons the royal army used.

I just hope Diglett, Zubat, Yungoos and Pikipek and their families are only available in one tile in just one hour of the day.

--Weepinbel and Victrebell in a high-leveled jungle?
-Aipom in a jungle or in normal grass.
-Pineco everywhere in a forest at night. It's counterpart could be Yanma or Larvesta.
-Gligar and Gliscor in the desert.
-Duskull in the graveyards.
-Bronzor, Bronzong, Yamask, Cofagrigus, and Klink family in the castle where Alolan royalty used to live.
-Interactable Rotom forms in Kukui's house, referencing the anime.
-Zebstrika in Poni.
-One Deerling per island?
-Golett in Tapu ruins.
-Binacle in beaches.
-Helioptile in caves.
-I want to see Skrelp and Clauncher again, but the sea is already overcrowded. Maybe they should upgrade Brooklet Hill to what it looks like in the artwork.

Since people are suggesting there's a new Gen coming late next year (due to the E3 announcement) then that means Alola will need to make pretty much all of the National Dex available in USUM (if that theory is correct). So the regional dex is likely to see a huge expansion* on top of whatever post-game method they have planned for the rest (DexNav, Friend Safari were what ORAS/XY had for those).

*Potentially bigger than I expected when I made this thread earlier.

I found the Alola regional dex to be pretty boring, so maybe this isn't a bad thing.

Meh, I'm not really sure what they could really add to make an expanded dex interesting. It isn't like past games where we have glaring variety deficiencies (DP) or a lack of representation from previous generations (BW). Yes, there are a large number of 1st gen Pokemon and a lower number of 2nd-6th gen Pokemon, but I don't think adding more of the latter would really be that interesting. Maybe they'll add more Alola forms, IDK.

I would love it if this means that the whole regional dex is going to be replaced with other Pokémon (except the Gen VII mons of course). If I have to go through Alola again, please at least give me a whole new selection of Pokémon to choose from :D

And the SM regional dex just didn't do it for me, too many mons that I don't care about or have already used before. Would love to see more gen V mons at least, as I've really only played through BW(2) once, so there's still lots of Pokémon I've yet to have on my team.

Next to that, I'd like to see Pokémon we haven't see since DPPt/HGSS or longer during the main game, like Glameow (pls), Natu, Kricketot, Shinx, Cherubi, Buizel, Aipom, Buneary, Bronzor, Ponyta, Hoothoot, Tangela, Wooper, Pineco, Venonat, Stantler, Seel, Teddiursa, and Phanpy. Would also like to see Combee again, cause there just can't be enough Vespiquen.

Slowpoke in the trailer to seem to hint against this. Though it might be that some are replaced to keep the number down and promote trading with SM players? I think I'd rather they just inceased the number to increase the variety though. Seeing Yungoos/Gumshoos the entire game gets a bit tiring.

Also wouldn't mind them moving some about. I really wanted to use Alolan Eggy, but you can't get an Exeggcute until the final island, why?!

I'm surprised Shinx hasn't been outside Sinnoh's dex, because it's a fairly popular line (at least in the West, not sure about its popularity in Japan). Though Phanpy, Teddiursa, Natu, Wooper and Hoothoot have been present in either XY or ORAS regional dexes, and I think Seel, Tangela and Buizel were in B2W2 too?

They changed Glameow's model between Gen 6 and 7, so maybe it will finally appear. And I do agree with Venomoth getting some love too. It hasn't been in a regional dex outside of Kanto/Johto! Same with Kingler iirc.

Togepi. Togepi is another Pokemon that hasn't been features in a regional dex for a while. In fact, it's the only Pokemon that was retyped as Fairy that hasn't been seen in a regional dex since the type's introduction, so most people haven't really gotten the chance to play around with its new Fairy type.

Probably the rest that can Mega-evolve. Makes getting the remaining mega stones easier.

Well I didn't just mean being present in the regional dex, but actually being able to catch them during the main game.

Phanpy: only in Friend Safari in XY, and via breeding in ORAS (can only catch Donphan)
Teddiursa: only in Friend Safari in XY, not present in ORAS
Natu: only via breeding (can only catch Xatu)
Wooper: only in Friend Safari in XY, not present in ORAS
Hoothoot: only in Friend Safari or via breeding in XY, not present in ORAS

And those you can breed you only find quite late in the game (Donphan and Xatu in the Safari Zone, Noctowl on Route 20/Pokémon Village). Furthermore, Seel, Tangela and Buizel you can only catch postgame in BW(2).

So it would be nice if they're available somewhere early in USUM :D

Oh wow I didn't know that, Glameow looks a lot better now! Now to hope it's actually catchable

Another good one indeed. I thought it was available maingame in XY or ORAS but it seems it indeed isn't, so it can be added to the list.

I'm expecting a complete overhaul of the pokedex, Island scan being greatly expanded to serve as pokeradar/dexnav or whatever, but I do think a lot of the remaining 500 pokemon not present in SuMo will be added in USUM. My thoughts:
Ekans/Arbok
Oddish line. I thought this a shoe-in for Alola, apparently not.
Bellsprout line. Same as above.
Krabby/Kingler. There's already a lot of water mons and the fishing mechanics are awful in Gen 7 but I was sort of expecting these.
Aipom line
Sunkern line. SUNflora come on!
Yanma/Yanmega. I think it would give it a tropical vibe.
Slugma and Numel lines. For the volcano which needs to be expanded. just taking shortcuts to the top was disappointing.
Mantyke line. Another line I thought would be on SuMo and nothing! Especially given all the buffs it got in Gen 7.
Tropius. Because it's obvious.
Clamperl line. They fit Alola well IMO
Shinx. An early electric pokemon that is not Pikachu or Magnemite would be swell.
Stunky: I like it and the selection for poison pokemon is not very good.
Chatot: wasn't in SuMo for some reason?
Elemental monkeys. Come on. In a tropical island monkeys are sort of expected. Especially since they help cover for the starter.
Woobat. I hope it replaces Zubat. It should've replaced Zubat for SuMo since it's a more tropical bat choice.
Binacle, Spritzee and Helioptile lines. No particular reason but I think they'd fit Alola pretty well.

You forgot Solrock and Lunatone.

Despite there indeed being no monkeys on actual Hawaii, I would love it if they added the elemental monkeys. They could add to the variety of the islands, being able to find each monkey on a different island. I wish they'd do that with more Pokémon, like others they could use are Shellos (missed opportunity like whoa), Basculin and Burmy. Could maybe even work with the Deerling forms, which would be a great way to make all forms available again. Like, you could find the Spring one in Melemele Meadow, Summer in Lush Jungle, Winter on Mount Lanakila, and Autumn in Vast Poni Canyon or something (idea totally stolen from Zeb).

And please just give us more variety of birds, instead of all the Pikipek/Trumbeak. Replace it with Natu, Pidove, and Starley (or evos) or something on the other islands. Same with Zubat, switch it to Woobat and Noibat in some caves. And the digging patches that contain Alolan Diglett/Dugtrio could also have Drilbur or Bunnelby. Just... more variety, please. You'd think that'd be a theme with different islands going on, but somehow they stopped caring about variety after creating Oricorio it seems :(

Furthermore, I would also like to see Pokémon in the Lake of the Sunne/Moone, since now it's just an empty place. Unown and Solrock/Lunatone would work great there imo.

our new sea poison/dragon pokemon from Kalos Dragalge.
All sea and tropical based pokemon.
Fire pokemon with volcano, lava motive.

All right, so I did an analysis of past regional dexes to show which Pokemon have been underused or overused in past regional dexes. I listed all of the Pokemon and which regional dexes have appeared and I created several filters on this document to list the Pokemon that have been in few to no regional dexes, in multiple regional dexes, and which haven't appeared in a regional dex since HGSS (to access the filters, click the arrow next to the funnel-looking symbol in the menu). So here's what I think should be added if they're going for variety and balance (note that these are personal choices based on my list):

Venonat/Venomoth- Hasn't been seen at all outside of Kanto and Johto. Would be a good candidate for an Alola form, I'm thinking Bug/Psychic
Ponyta/Rapidash- Hasn't shown up since Sinnoh. Would be a good candidate for an Alola form, I'm thinking Fairy for Ponyta and Fairy/Flying for Rapidash.
Krabby/Kingler- Hasn't been seen at all outside of Kanto and Johto. I'd also like to see it get a Water/Steel Alola form.
Hitmons- Haven't been seen at all outside of Kanto and Johto.
Togepi/Togetic/Togekiss- Like I said above, they're the only old Pokemon retyped to Fairy that has yet to appear in a regional dex. This family desperately needs to appear again.
Natu/Xatu- Only appeared in Johto and Hoenn, and definitely fit the environment.
Aipom/Ambipom- Haven't been seen at all outside of Johto and Sinnoh.
Pineco/Forretress- Haven't appeared in a non-native regional dex whatsoever.
Seedot/Nuzleaf/Shiftry
Shroomish/Breloom- Might be a bit much having three Mushroom Pokemon in the dex here, but this line hasn't appeared outside of the Hoenn Dex.
Cacnea/Cacturne- Another Hoenn Dex native that we haven't seen at all. Could be a nice addition to the Desert.
3rd gen fossils- 3rd and 6th gen are the only fossils to have not shown up in another region. 6th gen is still recent so it's not as big a deal, but the 3rd gen fossils are a glaring omission here. Would make a nice addition to Dream Park.
Clamperl/Huntail/Gorebyss- One of the less frequent Water types around. And isn't it about time Huntail and Gorebyss became Water/Dark and Water/Psychic? I thought they were this to begin with and I'm confused as to why they're not.
Shinx/Luxio/Luxray- One of the few 4th gen Pokemon to not reappear. It's also begging to be Electric/Dark.
Spiritomb- Hasn't appeared in a non-native regional dex whatsoever.
Munna/Musharna- Hasn't been seen outside of Unova yet, and seems like it would fit the region.
Drillbur/Excadrill- Could form an interesting rivalry with Alola Diglett/Dugtrio
Darumaka/Darmanitan- Hasn't shown up yet and would be a great addition to Ula'ula
Deerling/Sawsbuck- Four islands, four forms of this family. Sounds like a good match to me.
Joltik/Galvantula- Mainly just a personal favorite, but there's a couple of places it could show up like some of the forests on Akala or Blush Mountain
Skrelp/Dragalge- Sure, why not? It adds some variety to the fishing and we could use more Poison types.
Lugia/Ho-oh- While they're busy making Johto relevant again, why not throw Lugia and Ho-oh into that pagoda in Malie Garden that looks like it should be something important. And while we're at it, Alola forms, Lugia really needs a Water form and they can do some interesting stuff with Ho-oh too. Maybe Water/Dragon and Fire/Fairy?

Meanwhile, here's some Pokemon that should definitely NOT show up again in Alola, they've all shown up multiple times and don't really have much reason to reappear:

Onix/Steelix
Voltorb/Electrode
Koffing/Weezing
Horsea/Seadra/Kingdra
Azurill/Marill/Azumarill
Yanma/Yanmega
Gligar/Gliscor
Heracross
Remoraid/Octillery
Mantyke/Mantine
Budew/Roselia/Roserade
Swablu/Altaria

Additionally, here's some other Pokemon I think could be added for other reasons such as lore or getting a new Alola forms:

Lunatone/Solrock- They're Sun and Moon Pokemon. Nuff said.
Rotom- We have one as a companion and yet we can't catch one in the game whatsoever? Come on, Game Freak!
Tropius- Grass/Dragon Alola form plz.
Ekans/Arbok- Could really use an Alola form. I'm thinking really play up the rattlesnake/hypnosis angle and go Poison/Psychic.
Sunkern/Sunflora- We need a Grass/Fire type, and this family is a really great fit for that. Giving it some Fire moves as well as Drought should really give it some new life too.
Bronzor/Bronzong- Playing to the old legend of Bronzong being a rainmaker, make this family Water. It never really made much sense for a Psychic type to summon rain anyway.
Helioptile/Heliolisk- Electric/Normal is a pretty unique type, but never really sat well with me. How about Electric/Fire? It does gather energy from the Sun

I have 350 exactly here, but I feel like if it gets an expansion it should be to 400. Not sure what to do about the other 50.
