Alternate methods of watching Japanese anime?

I recently moved into my college dorm in Boston. It's a great school - but the file sharing policy is quite strict. It mostly applies to music and movies, but I talked to them about how I download the Japanese Pokémon episodes and they're iffy on the issue - they recommended I not download episodes of Pokémon on bittorrent just to be safe.

Are there alternate ways to get the weekly episodes, such as on YouTube? Is there anyone who could send me the files of good Brock episodes with yousendit or over some kind of messenger?

I'd really rather not give up watching the new Japanese episodes when they come out, particularly since I do not plan to watch the new dub (though that's a discussion for a different thread).

Why not just use BitTorrent and y'know... not tell them?

Besides, people very, very, very rarely get lifted for downloading illegal files - it's the distributors that they go after. You'd only be in the frame if you downloaded A LOT of stuff, and similarly shared it.

BitTorrent, as you know, works both ways - you are a consumer and redistributor of data.

This, of course, is a liability for the university.

While in theory you can download from BitTorrent without ever uploading a single byte, you will be severely penalised by most client software - in other words, it will take perhaps several weeks to download a single file.

Your best bet is to use IRC file sharing. That is purely unidirectional - unless you happen to decide to start uploading files as well.

300~MB a week being shared from the Uni IP is hardly going to ring any alarm bells at the FBI.

Ah, but you assume only 300MB is going to be uploaded. That might just be the case if connection limits are set. But if not... it's more likely going to be 3000MB.

But yeah... the MPAA is unlikely to prosecute sharing of Japanese (The A in MPAA stands for America) episodes.

Uhhuhuhuh....you said "tube".

Anyway, Pokebip, a french site, has the newest episodes for direct download like every sunday or so...

This is all things I've considered thus far - however, at the moment, I'm taking the honest route and discussing with authorities at the college where they draw the line between acceptable and non-acceptable.

Currently, they seem to be most bothered by the fact that it's done by bittorrent than what is being transferred. I think if they decide they would have a problem with me continuing this, I'd probably have to have the files transferred in a more personal manner, such as someone sending it to me over a messenger.

By the way, I now have a fantastic connection compared to my old one. Expect to see a lack of my usual connection problems whenever I'm here at college.

But you can't screenshot those. =[

... ah, well, I guess returning to pokebip wouldn't be the worst alternative.

Oh, wait, they changed the format - you can screenshot it now, since it's a YouTube-ish thing... though it's terrible quality. =[

I guess I can learn to live without making screenshots of Brock or other good parts of an episode. T_T

I'm sure other people will for you.

Pokebip has Youtube-things now? I swear that you could still DL decent quality episodes.

They changed it a few weeks ago, which is annoying for me as I could take screenshots when it was direct download. They don't even have the opening/ending/extras now.

Hmm... I'm probably going to be in a similar situation in a month, just as D/P starts...

I could like totally compress the episode to a good quality, compressed episode instead of downloading 200 MB for an episode... and send them.

Then use IRC. I know not having a shitty connection might take some getting used to - but take advantage of it. And go to [HASHTAG]#bulbagarden[/HASHTAG] every once in a while x)

Dude, Pokebip used to use RealMedia and you CAN screenshot that unless they used something else without my knowing. o_O;

Apparently, now...they have the video on their site. Like a Youtube....

This French site provides ~100 MB episodes in WMV format:

Wow, thanks for the link. Their episode files even look more usable than the ones Pokebip used to use. And I even get to see the Manyula filler I missed. :-D

Pie, this is the screenshot quality:
