Chapter 1: Shimmering Seas

The tides hit me ferociously, knocking me back with every strike they threw at me. It wasn’t painful, though. I was used to it. Seaweed brushed against my blue feet, tickling them as I swam. My green eyes pierced through the water, staring through the surface. There was nothing. Nothing but a few Wingulls flying innocently above. Just as it always was.

As I continued to look up into the sky, I saw the clouds. They were a deep black. That could only mean one thing; a storm was coming. Judging by the huge size of the cloud, this was no ordinary storm. This was a hurricane.

I started swimming forward, trying to find land. The only problem was, I had no idea where I was. For all I knew, I could’ve been in the middle of the ocean. Not that it would matter to me; I was a Vaporeon. I was a water type. This was my environment. I just continued swimming, trying to stay calm. This was the first hurricane I had experienced. I had seen a few tsunamis, but those were nowhere near me. This was different. This presented real danger to me.

Suddenly, a sound like a train whistle screeched behind me. I couldn’t see anything through the sudden burst of wind, turning up sand in every direction, blinding me. I squinted and saw a few small fish getting sucked into the storm and thrown about. I immediately shut my eyes again and began swimming. The winds were getting closer, and before I knew it, I was inside the eye of the storm. All I saw was debris, corpses of dead fish and water types, and then a steel rod hitting me. Then there was nothing.

I awoke on a beach and looked around. Up turned palm trees, beach houses demolished, Wailords and other water types washed up to sea, most of them dead. I had no time to help the few that were alive, though. My side had a deep gash in it from the rod. I crawled over to a fallen palm tree and placed a leaf over my side and tied it in a knot with my teeth.

“This should help the bleeding, at least for a while.” I muttered to myself, just to see if I could even speak. I could, but it was painful to do so. I stood up and walked around a bit, noticing that my front left leg had a limp. That was currently the least of my worries. I needed food. I hadn’t eaten in days. I walked over to the shore to examine the corpses and to see if any of them were edible. I picked up a Remoraid and tore off its small head and gulped it down. It tasted divine. I continued to eat the small fish until I was satisfied. I lost count after ten.

I walked over to one of the broken beach houses and laid down, hoping to find the conditions inside at least livable. I crawled into a corner that was blocked off by some wood that I pushed aside. I then went to sleep, hoping that I would awake and find that this all was just a horrible, horrible dream.

When I woke up, I saw a girl. She had chestnut brown hair and deep green eyes. She was staring at me, looking worried.

“She must wonder if I’m alive…” I thought. When she saw that my eyes were opened, she motioned to another girl. This one had red hair and blue eyes, looking vastly different than her friend. She reached down with her tanned arms and grabbed me, lifting me up and pressing me against her chest. I would’ve normally fought back, but I was far too drained of energy to do anything. Her friend, I noticed, had fairly light skin, also different than her friend.

“What should we do with her?” I heard the red haired girl say as she finally released me from the darkness of her chest. She looked to be about sixteen years old. “Maybe we should keep her.” Her friend responded with a slight tone of worry in her voice. I was suddenly transferred back to the ground. Suddenly, I saw the chestnut haired girl pull a small red and white ball out of her pocket. I’d seen these before. I just didn’t know where. She suddenly went into some sort of odd throwing stance and threw the ball at my face. Once it hit me, I was trapped inside the small dark space, rocking gently back and forth...
