Anime music videos...are AMVs...

MADs, are similar to AMVs, however most of the time they are not based around a song and are often parody things similar to the AMV Hell series (though is that considered a MAD?). And MADs are usual reference Japanese memes so don't worry if some confuse you...

Post some you found and/or your favorites~ I have l33t lurking skills (at least I think) so don't be surprised if I list down 70+ videos, even ones I don't really like.

If I ended up posting the one you wanted to or your favorite, just point it out. I didn't put anything pertaining to video games, however. Like some video game parodying an anime theme. Ones with * are my personal favorites. :D

And props to you if you recognize and/or seen all of these titles...

Oh, and a lot of videos I'm listing won a couple of awards at various conventions.

Yami no Matsuei (The Flying Car)

If I haven't wasted your time enough by now... But the following videos all parody the exact same thing. So don't...bother if you have a short-temper when it comes to listening to the same high-pitched Japanese girl voice over and over with a catchy song alongside. I personally don't see a reason on posting the same thing one by one, but I found it amusing on how many titles can be seen as a dating-sim.

Code Geass
Lyrical Girl Nanoha
Lucky Star
Lucky Star (Alternate)
Lucky Star (Still Version)
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Ookiku Furikabutte

God...someone needs to make a Pokemon one NAO. Yeah I unfortunately couldn't find any other Pokemon AMVs...D: A lot of the ones I can only find are pretty much really bad quality. (I found very interesting ship videos that might scar you for life, too)

While on the topic of this...what is the best and most appropriate program in making an AMV or MAD? From my experience and what I seen, Windows Movie Maker can definitely make good stuff if you do it right and are patient with the random lags and limitations. In fact I learned how to make several effects not available on the actual program by doing frame-by-frame work with the slide options. But...lots...and lots of pain...and...agony...and crying...

Yeah, I love watching MADs on Youtube. One of the funnier ones I remember was putting the death note people in a ramen commercial.(I don't remember where it is, it is pretty old now) I definitely like looking at mads though (when I'm bored especially), just not the music videos. To me, most AMVs are kind-of cheesey, but I respect the amount of work that goes into them.

Oh, I do like the opening parody ones! Hokuto no Ken OP

I just have to say that this fan-made Digimon Savers opening is very fucking well-done. Not only does this guy use textless footage, he even included Japanese credits, making it look nicely authentic. He has some more like this, though his earlier ones aren't quite as good (still might be worth a look, though).

Haha, he did SPURT! <3 (Though it isn't good as that one D=)

As soon as I get the necessary DVD/VHS player to hook into my DVC converter, I should be starting on some...

But where do you post them without them getting yanked? We all know that Pokemon videos don't last very long on YouTube without PUSA/ShoPro's lawyers swarming them...

DailyMotion? That's where LittleKuriboh took his YGO Abridged series after it was yanked off YouTube.

There's this one MAD where they take images from the Death Note manga and recreate the (Japanese) PokeRap. Pretty hilarious, actually.

As far as AMV's...I'd say about 90-95% of them are crap. There are some really good ones out there, but...sometimes wading through the uninspired wastes of bandwidth that's out there can get tiring.

I remember that one, here's the link to the Pokerap with Deathnote. I'm not exactly sure why it's so hilarious but it is (maybe the contrasts of tones, one light hearted and one serious). It's especially funny because they put the lyrics in the text boxes, lol. I think it has death note spoilers, so watch-out.

There was another MAD I saw recently were they had Hellsing do the Haruhi OP.
It's hilariously silly, also looking for it again, I found this, which is funny, but not as funny (because it's a little sloppy). That one has Haruhi spoilers though...

Oh, a few more I forgot about. The Deathnote and Hot Pepper spliced ads are freaken' hilarious. it's another thing you should probably check out.
Light and L
Longer version set of 3
Ok, one more set, it's all just really funny

Warning, has light death note spoilers.

I know what you mean.

I see these people, slapping a random song to their movie editor...Like getting random clips that don't sync and they just put a random talking character to make it like..."their singing". And they use clips with bad quality or subtitles on it for that matter as well~ They then put scenes that don't match at all with the lyrics or are in fact lazy enough to just take a good 5 minutes of something and do nothing with it.

Another bad thing about crummy AMVs is that they abuse the effects so much from the editor they are using.

I mean you can only seem to discover good AMVs at conventions now. (as I mentioned, the AMVs are I posted were entered in conventions; excluding the MADs of course)

Where's that Yugioh one with him repeatedly slashing Weevil? That's my favorite.

Also, most of the clips come from Square-Enix games or Shonen Jump anime; and the songs, by Linkin Park, Green Day, or any other mainstream rock band that you can think of.

I've seen that one as well. I just wished that whoever made it had a part with the words "Distortion Field" or something like that to match the part that says "Absolute Terror", from the Evangelion OP.

they also have a gijinka version (not the matured, sexy kind of gijinka, unfortunately T-T). It's worth a watch if you find little manga girls irresistably cute... or you're a filthy-ass lolicon, either one works.

Here are my three favourite Pokémon ones, assuming they've not been deleted.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9WKeZAI63r4&NR=1 - Tarzan and Jane (by Toybox). The main characters in this one are Ash and Dawn, with plenty of Brock, May, Aipom and Buizel footage. Even though I'm an anti-Pearlshipper (and not much of a Dawn fan in general =P) I still loved it.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=MO2oF-lLq3A - Happy Song (by Liam Lynch). Harley all the way here. Contains a couple of mild swears. But still, damn. Harley. XD The person who made this has some other good AMVs, such as "Harley Wants that Top" which I would have posted if it didn't contain so many utterances of the f-word and she-dog (but ruder).

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-wtz9KbIbvk - I Wanna Be Like You (Unknown artist, cover of the song from The Jungle Book). An Aipom-centric AMV. Speaks for itself.

Since this is an AMV thread, I suppose I'll post the AMV's I've made. The first two I did with Windows Movie Maker, which is the worst program ever for making AMV's. You can't do any transitions, editing clips is a pain in the ass, and you can only encode your finished video in shitty WMV format. So I apologize for the lack of visual quality on the first two as they were done with Movie Maker.

The first one is clips from Gravitation done to the song "Painted on my Heart" by the Cult. Certain aspects of the Gravitation storyline seemed to fit perfectly with the lyrics of the song, so I put them together and it turned out pretty good.

The second one is also from Gravitation, with "In My Place" by Coldplay. I didn't really have a plan with this one, I just sort of chose random clips that fit well with the song.

The last one I made using Adobe Premiere Pro, which is the best program to use for AMV's. It's easy to edit clips, there are plenty of transitions to use, and you can encode in high-quality format like DivX. This one is done to "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day , with clips from Card Captor Sakura. Again, no real planning went into it, but it turned out pretty good, with the exception of a couple little blips between transitions that I can't fix.

I'd appreciate some feedback on these so I know what I can do better next time.

You can also download these on Animemusicvideos.org if you're a member of that site. Just scroll to the bottom of the page in that link and you'll see links to my videos there.

I'd never heard of MADs before. That's interesting.

I totally agree about Windows Movie Maker. That thing is a serious pain in the butt to use! Recently mine has been acting weird, and it won't play video clips unless I actually drag them down to the timeline first.

I've made two AMVs so far, both with WMM. the first one isn't really an AMV, but a WAMV (Western animation music video ^^). here they are.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjC0-WddQ4U My first attempt at making a video. It's Goof Troop, using the song "I2I" from the movie soundtrack. The video quality sucks because my files were really crappy quality files that I got from a torrent.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_mq-U_2I54 My second AMV, and the reason I got into making them in the first place. The footage is Digimon Frontier and the song is "Things I'll Never Say" by Avril Lavigne. Yeah, the footage has subtitles in it, but that was all I had access to at the time.
