An attempt to get into the TCG

After seeing how big the TCG is (tornaments in cards far outnumber games) I think I want to get into it.

So can somebody tell me how to get started? I know the mechanics (thank the TCG game for GBC) and everything, but I need to know how to get myself started.

Also, how do I join my towns league? Do I just show up at the library and say, "Hey I wanna join", or is there some technical process I need to go through?
 
Buy a starter deck, preferably one of the newest ones. Read the rulebook that comes with it... then buy packs. It takes a fair amount of money to get into early on, but once you're up and running, it's a lot less expensive than, say, Yu-Gi-Oh! and a lot more fun.

But yeah, the rulebook that comes with the starter deck should help a lot. And yes, you can simply show up at your town's League and say "Hey, I wanna join." There will be a teensy amount of paper work to fill out, and then you're in the system. People there will be thrilled to have someone new to teach how to play and such. Also, once you get good, Organized Play events are all free of charge!

Also, read the stickied threads at the top of the TCG forum. They should be of assistance. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
